Find tips for saving. Small changes can make a big difference in your energy bill, and we have tips for every season. In winter months, for example, you can save about 3% on heating costs for every degree under 70˚ F that you set your home thermostat. Set it to 68˚ F during the day and 60˚ F at night, if health permits, and savings really add up.

n Save up to 10% on heating when you seal leaky ductwork with silver metal duct tape

n Save about $50 per year by washing clothes in cold water instead of hot

n Or save up to 70–90% on lighting year-round when you replace standard bulbs with energy-efficient LED bulbs

Learn about programs available to customers through EmPOWER Maryland, a statewide initiative to reduce energy consumption. There are a variety of ways you can save money and energy while improving the efficiency of your home:

n Rebates and instant discounts that make upgrading your home’s efficiency more affordable

n A no-cost Quick Home Energy Check-up, including an assessment of your home’s energy use and energy-saving products installed during your check-up

n Pick-up and recycling of your old, working refrigerator or freezer, including a $50 reward – plus an extra $25 if you recycle a working room air conditioner or dehumidifier at the same time
