Adam NagaoTeaches kids robotics part time as well as being a full time student at California State University Northridge for Computer Science.

“I had done some indoor, but nothing serious. After being invited to a charity race by my friend and teammate Rene Hourian, which was actually put on by The Patrick Britain. I found myself wanting to be one of those guys that can just jump in anything and go fast. Calspeed was the obvious choice.”

This last Super Series race was his best showing to date. He qualified well, and finished 3rd and 1st in the heats. “I found myself up at the front of the A. It was then just about hanging on until the last lap..which for me in the past has been trouble. I hope throughout the Super Series it will only get better.” Adam has won multiple B Mains in the Super Series and recently finished a career best 4th in the A Main at Round 1. Adam also finished 2nd in Round 1 of the Sprint Series.

Sergio BravoOwner Smith Smith & Smith [S3], doing Ad/Design and Brand Consulting mostly for action sports products like cycling, motorcycles and other things.

“Until my preteens I lived in Detroit, so I was always around people who loved racing particularly my Dad. In early 2000’s I started doing shifter kart track days and a couple schools as well as the Skip Barbour 3 day racing school. In 2008 I went to Dromo1 and was convinced to run the series there. That was my first year of competitive racing and I finished in the top 10 Overall. In 2010 I came to CalSpeed and started the racing series here. I really enjoyed being outdoors and hitting the curbing compared to indoors–it just feels more like real racing.”

Sergio has 6 Championships at CalSpeed in 4-1/2 years [1 Overall, 1 Ironman, 4 Masters titles], and held the fastest laps record for some time. His first A-Main win was pretty big, and then made even better by winning the last race of the season by a large margin and taking the Overall Championship as a result. He is also proud of his Ironman Championship when he won 5 out of 10 races.

Logan CalvinCurrently works at K1 Speed in Anaheim, Valet at St. Joseph Hospital, and help-ing out S Squared Karting for track days on the weekends and LAKC. Is a full time student at Fullerton working on his undergrad for business.

“Growing up I was always in the racing community. Typically always in the shad-ow of my big brother. We went from BMX to speedway motorcycles. When I was 13 we went to Dromo 1 for the first time and was instantly hooked. After rac-ing indoor competitively for about 3 years I moved into the outdoor karting at CalSpeed. I’ve started some competition karting with S Squared Karting and looking forward to what the future holds with Veritrue Racing.”

Having the opportunity to race SWS in France and KWC in Belgium are up there, but his career highlight is his national championship in 2012 right here at Cal-Speed. “It’s such an honor to have the title of national champion and be able to experience it with my close friends and family.”

The 2015 season is already off to a great start and we are only in February. As the much of the East Coast is in a deep freeze, there is some great racing going on in the South and on the West Coast. The Florida Winter Tour saw great numbers in its opening event and the first of three stops on the Challenge of the America’s calendar took place in Tucson, AZ.

We are happy to welcome back Dallas Hollins as she provides her recent interview with Jake Craig.

This month’s issue also features the 47th Annual Cal-State Championship, there was great racing to be had and $2,000 in prize money in Sunday’s Pro Race. WSK held their end of year gran gala on January 10th in Adria, Italy. A black-tie event, with many big names in the karting industry celebrated at the awards dinner. The WSK definitely sets the example when it comes to hosting and celebrating the end of a great season of racing.

Dustin has been with K1 Speed and K1 RaceGear for over a decade now. He originally started as a track worker at the Carlsbad facility in 2004. Eventually, working his way up to managing the facility a year later. K1 RaceGear was started and when a position became available he was eager to be a part of the company’s growth. Now with the addition of GoRacing Magazine he sees even more potential in the company as the magazine is great way to spread the word about karting and getting more new karters in the sport as well as allowing the local market to place ads to get more visibility of their products.

The majority of Dustin’s time is spent with K1RaceGear doing sales, custom designs, product development, customer service and more, but as time allows he is instrumental in working with advertisers, obtaining content and proofing the monthly issue for GoRacing Magazine.

When he’s not in the office you can find Dustin spending time at the baseball diamond playing his favorite sport. He plays in an Adult baseball league with a great team that has a few championships under their belt.

Strong ShowingCRG HAS STRONG SHOWING AT ROTAX CHALLENGE OF THE AMERICAS

CRG started off the 2015 racing season in strong fashion at the first round of the Rotax Challenge of Americas event in Tucson, AZ January 10-11.

With two major teams, CRG USA and PSL West, in attendance covering a variety of classes, CRG was able to win two classes and add other podiums over the weekend. Team PSL West’s Sebastien Alvarez was able to qualify off pole for Saturday’s race in his CRG Mini Hero X2 101 chassis. Alvarez went on to win the Pre-Final by two tenths of a second with Marco Kacic coming home fifth. In the Saturday main, there were three CRG’s in the top 5. Sunday was much of the same as two CRG’s made it in the top four as Alvarez again took the win in the Pre-Final and led all the way in the main to sweep Sunday’s races. With the new Rotax rules of the Mini-Max class requiring 1010 mm wheel base, the CRG Mini Hero X2 looks like the chassis to beat.

DD2 was all about CRG for the majority of the weekend. CRG USA’s Sabre’ Cook took the Pre-Final win on Saturday followed by the races fast lap holder, PSL West’s Matt Jaskol in third. Saturday’s main was all Sabre’ Cook as she pulled away from the rest of the field with CRG USA’s Christian Bird taking the final podium position. On Sunday, Sabre’ Cook continued with a win in the Pre-Final. For the final Sabre’ set fast lap and would end up in second with Matt Jaskol in third.

With the first big event for 2015 in the

books, CRG Nations is ready for a great year with CRG and in particular the Rotax series. K1 Group’s/CRG Nations, Tyler Brooks attended the first Challenge of Americans event and was able to meet with many CRG dealers and clients. “Overall the first presence for us at CRG Nations was a success and we look forward to these upcoming years and more progress with the CRG brand moving forward ” said Tyler. With the transition happening very smoothly, look for CRG to be running up front in the coming months during the Florida Winter Tour events.

same time,” explained Rudolph. “I am leaving The Bondurant School of High Performance Driving which has been a big part of my life for nearly 16 years. Bob has been a great mentor and given me so many opportunities which I will always be grateful for. Now I’m looking forward to a fresh start and getting to work on plans for our multi-purpose facility.” Crawford added, “The first phase of the project will still include the three basic elements that we had before in a dedicated rental kart track, as well as a performance track and a performance pad, both that will connect with one another. Alan will now put his expertly honed and creative handprint on everything. The business plan is new. The project is new. It is going to be great.” The SpeedsportZ Racing Park will run rental karts on their dedicated rental facility to help attract new people to the sport of karting. The performance track and performance pad will be the home of racing karts and lightweight racecars. The new President will also develop a high performance racing school for drivers with the emphasis on karting, with general instruction on lightweight racecars also being introduced. The goal of the Alan Rudolph Racing Academy programming will have a long-term goal of becoming the top karting training program in the world. Rudolph added, “I am really excited to get working on this project, it’s truly my field of dreams and I can’t wait to share it with the world. There are many exciting things but the two I am most excited about is my ARRA brand and my idea of a Karting Hall of Fame. It’s been a dream

Changing the motorsports and karting market in Texas, SpeedsportZ Racing Park, part of the Grand Texas project, is pleased to announce a new face and name to their growing operation. Stepping up to the plate as a Co-Owner in the facility as well as President and Operations Manager, Alan Rudolph is set to make the move to Houston, Texas. Wiping the previous slate clean, the multi-time karting champion and longtime industry member will have a fresh canvas to build one of karting’s most sought after world-class facilities and driver training programs, and establish the ‘Alan Rudolph Racing Academy’ (ARRA) brand. “I have fallen behind on the SpeedsportZ Racing Park timeline as I have been busy solidifying Alan Rudolph in the key role in the SpeedsportZ Racing Park,” explained Tim Crawford, now Co-Owner of the soon to be motorsports playground. “My search for the perfect person came to a close recently and we have finally locked down a long term agreement. Alan will be a Co-Owner in the facility as well as President and Operations Manager. His deep network and friendships in the industry are second-to-none.” Rudolph will have a fresh 25-acre area on the grounds of the 550 acre Grand Texas property, to build the facility that he wanted, planned and dreamed of since being a young karter. Uprooting his family ties and moving to the Houston, Texas area, the new President will start laying the groundwork for what is expected to be, one of the premier motorsports facilities in not only the United States, but also the world. “I am excited and anxious all at the

CALIFORNIA PROKART CHALLENGE READIES FOR 2015 OPENER

The 2015 season is set to get underway for the Superkarts! USA organization, as the flagship regional program California ProKart Challenge is set to host its opening round of competition. Scheduled for February 6-7 at the Buttonwillow Raceway Park, SKUSA is expecting another large turnout for the season opener as the paddock is almost full with pit spots reservations, huge numbers of new applications are streaming in for SKUSA memberships, and former racers are making an exciting return to the track. Aside from bragging rights and the prestige of winning, racers are ready to compete for what is another record-breaking championship prize package in 2015. Over $75,000 in cash, gift certificates and prizes will be awarded this season, thanks to the many partners Superkarts! USA has formed, including IAME USA, Honda Performance Development (HPD), MG Tires, Mothers Polish, VP Fuel and others. In addition to the year-end prizes, each podium ceremony features more prize-winning opportunities, as the individual weekend totals for these raffles will regularly top the $2500-mark, thanks to the number of race products and SKUSA entries handed out. The categories offered for the 2015 California PKC program will feature the same seven race groups and 10 categories that were offered last year, in addition to a new division for SKUSA. The Stock Moto classes include S1, S2, S3, S4 and S5, and will be joined by the new S4 Super Master class that will run on-track with the regular S4 Master division. The S4 Super Master class invites drivers 45 years and older to compete for a weekend trophy and series championship. The TaG groups, including Senior, Master, Junior and now Cadet all feature the IAME engine brands. The Parilla Leopard and X30 are approved for Senior and Master, while Junior remains the Parilla Leopard only. The IAME Mini Swift 60 engine is the new mandated powerplant for TaG Cadet, a class that is sure to sell out at each PKC event this season. This class includes the TaG Cadet Rookies – drivers that are 7 to 9 years old or new to PKC (with qualifying times in the second half of the field). Superkarts! USA and IAME USA West have worked together to bring in additional staff to assist drivers and teams with the new IAME Mini Swift 60 engine, along with the new carburetors utilized for the X30 powerplant. Andrew Fallon from Tillotson will be trackside at Buttonwillow, both on Friday and Saturday, to help racers with

any questions or concerns they have. SKUSA encourages racers and their mechanics to take advantage of this extra on-site support. The 2014 season of the California ProKart Challenge featured some exciting racing and chases to the series championships. For 2015, SKUSA is again offering the top nine drivers in each category from last year’s championship standings the option to run the single-digit number they earned. To review the numbers reserved for 2015, visit the SKUSA website. Online registration for Round One of the California ProKart Challenge remains open until Tuesday, February 3 at midnight – with the discounted price of $310 for entry and stamped race tires. Pit move-in begins on Thursday afternoon, February 5, for those wanting to get set-up early. On Friday, the PKC registration desk opens at the track at 7:00am for check-in and walk-up entries, with the official practice day beginning on track at 9:00am, running until 5:00pm. There is a nominal fee of $50 for overnight camping at the track, which is only allowed Thursday and Friday evening, and attendees are encouraged to reserve space now. Pit spots are also filling up fast as well, with SKUSA asking competitors to reserve their space as soon as possible. Starting with a Bang2015 COLD STONE FLORIDA WINTER TOUR POWERED BY MAXSPEED ENTERTAINMENT ROK CUP USA PROGRAM PRESENTED BY MG TIRES KICKS OFF WITH HUGE SUCCESS

In the very south of the state of Florida, MAXSpeed Entertainment kicked off their first event as the new owners of the Florida Winter Tour on January 17-18, 2015. Hosting round one of the new Cold Stone Florida Winter Tour Powered by MAXSpeed Entertainment ROK Cup USA weekend presented by MG Tires at Homestead Karting, set in the shadow of the Homestead-Miami Speedway, over 150 racers from around the world competed in seven different categories. The event featured an all-star lineup of drivers in the headline ROK Shifter class that included former Formula 1 drivers Rubens Barrichello and Nelson Piquet Jr. along with an excellent turnout of drivers in the remaining six categories.   Under sunny skies and near perfect weather, the event ran smooth from start to finish. The challenging permanent circuit on the parking lot grounds of the Homestead facility pushes drivers to their limits and provides excellent racing for those watching trackside and online.

“With this first event as new owner of the Florida Winter Tour and the first time running the new ROK Cup USA program, everyone at MAXSpeed worked some of the kinks out during this first weekend in Homestead,” explained MAXSpeed’s Race Promotion Director, Garett Potter. “Our customers were unaffected and we feel the transition has been smooth.  We are optimistic for the future as the new owner of the FWT, and next month will be even better!”

Formerly known as the FWT Formula Kart weekend, the new all Vortex ROK Cup USA program featured the largest turnout of non-Rotax drivers the FWT has seen in more than five years, a very positive sign moving forward. Presenting sponsor MG Tires staff was on site all weekend long, with MAXSpeed appreciating their hard work and support.   To kickoff the event, MG Tires hosted a welcome dinner much to the delight of those on site. Dinner was served up by the MAXSpeed staff, bringing everyone together before the big races began.

Factory Praga kart driver Patrik Hajek from the Czech Republic scored double victories in the ROK Shifter category, holding off a spirited drive by Rubens Barrichello on Sunday while the youngest

son of Barrichello, Fernando, was able to take home two wins of his own in the Micro ROK class, sponsored by AM Engines. Mathias Ramirez (Junior), Eduardo Dieter (Masters), Kyle Kirkwood (CKT Engines Senior) and Richard Heistand (Masters Shifter) were all able to sweep the victories in their respective classes.

The Mini ROK category provided some of the most exciting racing of the weekend where 42 drivers competed. Splitting the victories were Nicholas d’Orlando and Jonny Edgar, where both drivers pushed each other lap after lap all weekend long. For those not in attendance, the FWT online video broadcast by KARTS broke records for viewership on both Saturday and Sunday.   With round one complete, the 2015 Cold Stone Florida Winter Tour Powered by MAXSpeed Entertainment ROK Cup USA weekend presented by MG Tires will resume in just over a month’s time at the Orlando Kart Center on February 21-22.

After a huge season in 2014, where up-and-coming driver Dylan Tavella earned two United States Pro Kart Series championships, his second consecutive US Rotax championship, and the Rotax Challenge of the Americas Mini MAX title, Tavella would be back in action the past two weekends to start his 2015 campaign. Taking to the Homestead Karting complex on the grounds of the Homestead-Miami Speedway, the Massapequa, New York resident competed in both the Florida Winter Tour (FWT) ROK Cup USA and Rotax MAX Challenge programs to get his season underway.

Making his debut in the junior karting ranks, Tavella would

take on a massive 30-kart field in Junior ROK to start his 2015 Cold Stone Florida Winter Tour. Clocking a respectable P14 in qualifying for round one, trouble would ensue in the prefinal as he fell toward the tail of the field. Making up some ground and using his skills and talent, Tavella worked back up to his qualifying position of 14th after the 18-lap final. Qualifying for round two of ROK action again saw Tavella mid-pack in 17th. Battling against some of the top talent from around the world, the young gun posted two top-ten results in both the prefinal and final to end his opening weekend of FWT action.

Back on track the very next weekend, Tavella switched to his

Rotax package with hopes of continuing his reign in the Mini MAX class. Taking on two qualifying sessions on Friday, which set the grids for Saturday and Sunday’s wheel-to-wheel action, Tavella clocked P4 in both. Dropping to 11th in Saturday’s round one prefinal, the two-time US Rotax National Champion rebounded to finish eighth in the day’s final. Bettering his results on Sunday, Tavella was able to end his Rotax weekend in Homestead with a second place podium result after a hard-fought battle in the final.

With the opening rounds of the 2015 Florida Winter Tour

complete, Tavella will next head to the Orlando Kart Center for the second stop of the tour February 21-22 for ROK and February 27-March 1 for Rotax. Tavella will also be featured in the new reality TV series KART LIFE, which premieres tonight, Wednesday, January 28 at 10/9c on truTV.

Continuing StrongCRG CONTINUES WITH STRONG BEGINNIN TO THE 2015 RACING SEASONS AT FWT

CRG continues to be strong for the beginning of the 2015 racing season with multiple podiums and top five’s at the opening rounds of the Rotax Florida Winter Tour

The first round of the Florida Winter Tour was a busy one for CRG. The Mini Max class proved once again that the CRG Mini Hero X2 is the chassis to beat with Sebastian Alvarez dominating the weekend with wins on both Saturday and Sunday. He walked away from the competition on Sunday pulling over a 3 second led at the finish.

The Rotax Senior class proved that the new CRG KT2 is a chassis to contend with. Ed Brand finished a well-deserved 2nd place on Saturday while setting the second fast lap time only .052 of a second off. He backed his result up on Sunday with a 4th place (after being passed on the last lap while competing for 3rd) and again set the second fast lap of the race but this time by .011 of a second. Watch for more CRG KT2 chassis to be at your races soon as they are here to stay for 2015.

The DD2 race proved ultra-competitive with multiple CRG drivers competing for the crown. After starting 2nd on Saturday’s Final, Paolo di Conto was pushed back to 14th after fiercely battling for the lead. He fought his way back to finish a competitive 5th place and set fast time. Gavin Reichelt also in a CRG had a great race to finish immediately in front of di Conto in fourth. Davide Fore’ was very fast in practice setting the 2nd quick time but missed the set up for the race thus resulting in two top tens. On Sunday di Conto proved the CRG chassis is quick with a solid fifth place and 2nd fastest lap with Reichelt coming home 6th.

In all, the first round of the Florida Winter Tour proved that CRG’s are very competitive on the hard Mojo tires of the Rotax classes. Euan Jeffery from CRG S.p.A. was in attendance all weekend and had this to say. “It was a very positive week for the CRG brand as we proved the speed and the pace is the in all the categories. PSL West is pleased to announce their agreement with Penticton’s Top Gear Karting to operate the on-site kart shop for the Area 27 Motorsports Country Club development to be located in Oliver, British Columbia.  “We are still in the early stages of planning the details for the kart track and shop, but we are very excited to be working with Top Gear’s Craig Finer, who heads up the Karting Centre at Area 27. Our combined capabilities, featured at this world class facility, will give our team the ability to take clients from their very first ride in a race kart, all the way to competing and winning at the national and international level,” explains PSL West owner Danny Kacic. With the facility just 45 minutes away from PSL West’s current location, long-term plans include making Area 27 the home base for PSL West. “Once completed, we will be looking into putting our main location at the track site,” adds Kacic. “PSL West will operate the kart shop which will include tuning and race support services. WSK CHAMPIONS CUP ACT 1: HEADING TOWARDS THE FINISH LINEShort, tense as if drivers were taking part in a single round race instead of a two round race. The first act of the WSK Champions Cup finished today at the International Circuit La Conca, but teams and drivers are already looking forward to the second and decisive appointment scheduled for next weekend. Intense races, uncertain until the very last inch before the chequered flag, with changeable weather condition throughout the whole weekend: these were the ingredients of this thrilling race promoted by WSK Promotion, the opening event of the 2015 season. Next weekend, starting with qualifying on Friday 6th February, is approaching fast.

VERSCHOOR BEATS EVEN THE RAIN IN KFThe KF began with the astonishing start of the Danish Nicklas Nielsen (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega). He took advantage of the pole position conquered after his victory in the Prefinal and gained the lead ahead of the Dutch Richard Verschoor (Expit-Vortex-Vega) and the Polish Karol Basz (Kosmic-Vortex-Vega). But after few laps, the heavy rain obliged the Race Director to stop the race in order to allow drivers to change the tyres for a wet race. At the restart, on rain tyres, Nielsen did not manage to start his kart while Basz had to pull over after a lap. So, Verschoor took the lead and kept it until the end. He showed great skill on the wet track, skill which allowed him to win an important race in KF in the year of his debut. Egor Stupenkov (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega), after a great recovery from the sixth row of the starting grid, conquered the second position with two laps to go. The third position was scored on the final lap by Casper Roes Andersen (FA Alonso-Vortex-Vega). However, after the race the Danish driver was hit by a penalty for irregular start. His disqualification brought the Swedish Emil Skaras (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) to the third position.

LUNDGAARD WINS A HEATED RACE IN KF JUNIORAfter his excellent performance on the previous days, Christian Lundgaard (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) confirmed to be in peak form and won the Prefinal A and the Final of the KF Junior

category. The Danish took the lead after few laps and kept the head of the race until the finishing line. He won arriving 7 seconds ahead of the runner-up, thanks to his excellent and spectacular driving - his countersteering along the bends of the circuit was impressive - , more similar to the kind of driving we see in rallies rather than in kart racing. Second place for the Brazilian Felipe Drugovich (Kosmic-Vortex-Vega), who did not have any troubles in controlling the battle for thethird place which was going on behind him. That battle was eventually won by the American Logan Sargeant (FA Alonso-Vortex-Vega), who scored the last podium position on the last lap, beating into fourth the Indian Kush Maini (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega), one of the rookies of the KFJ. The Indian driver celebrated his debut in the category with an excellent fourth place, after a weekend spent always fighting for the top positions.

LUIGI COLUCCIO WINS THE 60 MINI ON HIS HOME CIRCUITA victory in front of your own public has always a particular taste. Luigi Coluccio (Lenzo Kart-LKE-Vega) from Maglie (Lecce, Italy) proved the rule: he won the Final of the WSK Champions Cup in Muro Leccese, few miles away from his hometown. Coluccio began his final phase in the best way possible: he won the Prefinal gaining an early lead starting from the second row. Then, after a gripping duel with Giuseppe Fusco (Lenzo-LKE-Vega), Coluccio won the Final too, with Fusco second. Also the fight for the third place was uncertain until the end. Eventually, the Norwegian Dennis Hauger (CRG-LKE-Vega) scored the last podium position ahead of the Italian Mattia Michelotto (Top Kart-Parilla-Vega) and Leonardo Marseglia (CRG-LKE-Vega).

THE DECISIVE RACE NEXT WEEKEND ALWAYS AT LA CONCA The second and last round of the WSK Champions Cup will take place next weekend, always in Muro Leccese. Qualifying is scheduled on Friday 6th February; then, on Saturday 7th, the heats. WSK CELEBRATED THE END OF THE 2014 SEASON IN ADRIAThe Palaeventi of the Adria International Raceway hosted, on Saturday 10th January, the traditional Gran Gala of the WSK drivers, the event which closes the WSK season every year. There were 250 guests and, among them, the real protagonists of the evening: the first three classified drivers of last season’s WSK Series. They were celebrated by big names of International motorsport. The host of the evening was the WSK President Luca De Donno who, while celebrating the end of last racing year, opened the tenth WSK Promotion season. The company based in Maglie (Lecce) is about to enter its tenth year of activity in kart racing and in car-racing. Among the events promoted by WSK it is worth mentioning all the WSK Series, the CIK-FIA World and European Championships and the Italian F.4 Championship powered by Abarth.

GREAT CELEBRATIONS FOR ALL THE AWARDED DRIVERSAwards went to all the drivers who placed in the first three positions of the WSK events. The WSK Champions Cup presented its winners: in KZ2 Ben Hanley (GB), in KF Karol Basz (PL), in KFJ Enaam Ahmed (GB) and in the 60 Mini Abdul Muizzudin (MAL). Also the teams of the winners were awarded: Art Grand Prix (KZ2), Tony Kart Racing Team (KF), Ricky Flynn Motorsport (KFJ) and Gamoto Kart (60 Mini). Same ceremony for the WSK Super Master Series, which celebrated its winners: in KZ2 Marco Ardigò (I), in KF Callum Ilott (GB), in KFJ Enaam Ahmed and in the 60 Mini Nicola Abrusci (I). The awarded teams were Tony Kart Racing Team (KZ2), Zanardi Strakka Racing (KF), Ricky Flynn Motorsport (KFJ) and Baby Race (60 Mini). The prize-giving ceremony also involved the recent winners of the WSK Final Cup, which was the opening event of the new circuit in Adria: in KZ2 Marco Ardigò, in KF Karol Basz, in KFJ Presley Martono (RI) and in the 60 Mini Dmitrii Bogdanov (RUS)

ENAAM AHMED IS THE WSK TALENT OF THE YEARWSK Promotion keeps on pursuing one of its major targets: launching new talents. For the first time, the WSK Talent Driver and the WSK Driver of the Year awards went to the same driver: the English Enaam Ahmed of the Ricky Flynn Motorsport team. Ahmed won both the WSK Champions Cup

and Super Master Series in KFJ, and then became World CIK-FIA Champion in the same category. The awards were presented by the French Dorian Bocclacci, who was nominated WSK Talent Driver in 2013. Boccolacci will make his debut in the FIA European F.3 Championship in the upcoming season.

LOTS OF BIG NAMES IN ADRIAAmong the guests of the WSK Gran Gala many personalities stood out at the Adria Palaeventi: Luca Baldisserri (the Ferrari Driver Academy Director), Patrizia Capuzzo (responsible for Csai Veneto), Orazio Manni (member of Aci Csai Karting Commission), Giancarlo Minardi (President of Aci Csai Velocità Commission), the sponsor Giuseppe Pandinelli for Betitaly, Franz Schreiner (FIA Safety Circuit Commission) and Roberto Vallardi, publisher of the 2014 WSK Yearbook, which features images and results of the whole WSK season. The close relation between WSK Promotion with car-racing and the F4 was represented by Raffaele Giammaria, the Director of the Aci Csai federal school. He was in Adria together with the coordinator Cristiano Del Balzo and the instructor Andrea Piccini. Luca De Donno hosted the evening together with Giuliano and Mario Altoè, the owners of the Italian facility which has recently been equipped with a brand new kart race-track, besides the well-renowned car-racing track.

A Dominating VictoryD POWER RACING OPENS UP 2015 WITH A DOMINATING VICTORY

The 2015 karting season seems to start earlier and earlier each year with major races happening all throughout the country long before winter has come to an end. With a refocused approach for 2015, D Power Racing decided to make the revitalized California State Championships their season opener. Entering two drivers in a total of three pro categories, they would look to start the season off with strong results heading into the delivery of the new Mad Croc chassis line at the end of January. Aaron Aguirre would compete in both KPV4 Pro and TAG Senior Pro, while Chance Skaufel would join Aguirre in the KPV4 class.

The event marked the beginning for both Aguirre and Skaufel full time in the senior categories. A highly talented and competitive field of 26 drivers entered the KPV4 Pro category and Aguirre continued the momentum from his impressive senior debut last season by taking the pole. Skaufel would time in a solid 6th and both drivers would look to take advantage of the two heats to set them up for the final. Aguirre would fall back at the start of the opening heat, but kept his poise and regained the lead with two laps to go to take the win while also setting fast lap. Skaufel would work his way up to 4th, running very competitive times with the leaders. Aguirre would once again lose the lead at the start, but the sixteen year old Riverside native would keep his head down and work his way back to the lead again and win the second heat while also setting fast lap once more. Sixteen year old Santa Maria resident Skaufel, would continue his march forward finishing the heat in 3rd. Aguirre would line up on pole with Skaufel starting 4th for the 17 lap main event. Aguirre would come out of turn 1 in the lead for the first time all day making his life much easier, while Skaufel would fall back to 9th after the opening lap. Skaufel would battle back to 4th quickly running very fast lap times before a dislodged throttle cable would only allow 75% throttle for the duration of the main event. Skaufel would continue to push and would find a way to manage a 4th place finish in his senior debut, a great result given the depth of talent and circumstances. Aguirre would open up a comfortable margin only to be challenged just past the midway point in the race. He would put his head down and reopen the gap to go on to score the fastest lap of the race while leading from start to finish to capture the biggest win in his karting career to date. Aguirre left no doubt on the day that

he was the driver to beat by using his D Power Racing prepared KPV and ART Grand Prix chassis to sweep the entire race day.

The following day in TAG Senior Pro, Aguirre would look for the same magic, but would have to work a little harder timing in 3rd in qualifying, but less than a tenth off the pole. Aguirre would hold his position in the opening heat race. Making large adjustments for the second heat, Aguirre would lose a lot of time at the start but would make his way back up to 4th while running the second quickest lap of the race. In the final, Aguirre would once again fall back at the start and unfortunately could climb back to no higher than 4th, but he would show the same pace as the leaders whilst being the highest finishing X-30 package.

Adam NagaoTeaches kids robotics part time as well as being a full time student at California State University Northridge for Computer Science.

“I had done some indoor, but nothing serious. After being invited to a charity race by my friend and teammate Rene Hourian, which was actually put on by The Patrick Britain. I found myself wanting to be one of those guys that can just jump in anything and go fast. Calspeed was the obvious choice.”

This last Super Series race was his best showing to date. He qualified well, and finished 3rd and 1st in the heats. “I found myself up at the front of the A. It was then just about hanging on until the last lap..which for me in the past has been trouble. I hope throughout the Super Series it will only get better.” Adam has won multiple B Mains in the Super Series and recently finished a career best 4th in the A Main at Round 1. Adam also finished 2nd in Round 1 of the Sprint Series.

Sergio BravoOwner Smith Smith & Smith [S3], doing Ad/Design and Brand Consulting mostly for action sports products like cycling, motorcycles and other things.

“Until my preteens I lived in Detroit, so I was always around people who loved racing particularly my Dad. In early 2000’s I started doing shifter kart track days and a couple schools as well as the Skip Barbour 3 day racing school. In 2008 I went to Dromo1 and was convinced to run the series there. That was my first year of competitive racing and I finished in the top 10 Overall. In 2010 I came to CalSpeed and started the racing series here. I really enjoyed being outdoors and hitting the curbing compared to indoors–it just feels more like real racing.”

Sergio has 6 Championships at CalSpeed in 4-1/2 years [1 Overall, 1 Ironman, 4 Masters titles], and held the fastest laps record for some time. His first A-Main win was pretty big, and then made even better by winning the last race of the season by a large margin and taking the Overall Championship as a result. He is also proud of his Ironman Championship when he won 5 out of 10 races.

Having the opportunity to race SWS in France and KWC in Belgium are up there, but his career highlight is his national championship in 2012 right here at Cal-Speed. “It’s such an honor to have the title of national champion and be able to experience it with my close friends and family.”

The 2015 season has started and already there have been many exciting things happening in the karting community. One thing I love about being a part of

this magazine is getting feedback from readers; either at the track, via email or over the phone. One sentiment that I get repeatedly is Thank You! Thank you for bringing a magazine to the karting community that identifies with the 90% rather than the elite 10%. Many of the people I talk to and meet are Father/Sons who got into the sport because they love karting. Hard-working individuals that are not in the sport for personal gain or to make any money to support their business, but to truly support the karting industry and the sport they love.

I have talked to many people in the karting industry, and one thing is for sure; they will tell you only what they want you to hear and it is usually only to benefit themselves. My intention with GoRacing Magazine and Mom at the Track is to give real-word, realistic, this-is-how-it-is information. As I thought about this I did some reflection on my own adventures in the sport and it got me thinking maybe I could ask someone some real-life (maybe tough) questions about the sport, but who would give my honest, straight-forward answers? I realized, I didn’t have to look very far, and it ranks up there as one of the best conversations I have ever had with my son, Enjoy!

What is your first memory of Karting?Probably one of my first memories is of my first times on the track, I had a motorcycle helmet on without any goggles and I remember

the wind hitting my face and it felt like I was going so fast.

What do you look forward to most during a race weekend?The excitement of just being at the track, the smells, the sounds and getting able to spend the day driving my kart.

You took some time away from karting, why? What made you want to come back and give it another shot? Honestly, I felt like I was being pressured by you and Dad. I had this feeling that if I wasn’t successful and winning races (and I wasn’t winning very many) that I was letting you guys’ down. After about a year I realized that I missed all of the emotions that went along with karting. The nervousness, the excitement, the feeling of knowing you might not have done your best, but wanting to get right back out on the track and do better. And then doing better, setting that fast lap; that is what I missed.

What is the hardest part of karting?

Personally, making sure that I am mentally and physically prepared. On a whole, the hardest thing is funding and sponsorship. I know you and Dad only have so much you can spend on my racing, and sponsorship is really hard to get. Showing up and racing against people who have unlimited budgets and are at the track every weekend is tough. But it makes me appreciate my time at the track that much more.

What do your friends at school think about your karting, do any of them even know what karting is? Haha, no! Well some have an idea from when I did The Race to Win in middle school, but nobody identifies with it.

What do they think karting is? Driving a lawn-mower at Boomers.

Does that make it difficult to not have a common interest or team sport to share with friends? No, not really. I am lucky and feel very blessed to have an opportunity to do something so unique.

What is a big misconception about the sport? That karting is not a physical sport. The physical aspect of karting is unbelievable. IndyCar and F1 drivers continue karting to stay in shape and keep their reflexes sharp.

karting that you can apply in real life?Getting out there and talking to people, talking to sponsors, and team owners. This will help me talk to future employers and colleges. Setting a good example on and off the track in my character and selling myself to sponsors has given me the confidence to do this in future situations.

You got to go to the Rotax Max Challenge World Finals in Valencia, Spain. Tell us a little bit about your experience. It was a lot of fun, but I realized some of the Spaniards have no customer service skills, they just don’t care, and that was a bit of an eye-opener. I had an opportunity to meet and talk to CRG S.p.A owner Giancarlo Tinini, very nice man. We watched a couple races together. Overall is was a great experience and I hope to someday compete in a World event.

What are your future plans in racing? Definitely continue my education, continue in karting with hopes to race sports cars (proto-type or sedans). I want to go to college and get an engineering degree, Plan B is to be a team engineer.

So that is long term, what are your plans for this racing season?Well my Dad just sold my Kosmic chassis. I am looking forward to being a part of team CRG-USA and represent at the Sonoma Challenge of the America’s race and the US Open event in Las Vegas along with doing some regional races throughout the summer.

The eighth season of the Rotax Challenge of the Americas program commenced over the January 9-11 weekend at

the Musselman Honda Circuit in Tucson, Arizona. Over 100 karters gathered to contend in the premier winter karting series on the left coast, with four of the Rotax Max Challenge divisions beginning their journey toward the 2015 Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals tickets up for grabs to the series champions. The weekend in Tucson was historic for seven of the 10 drivers to win over the two days of racing, standing on top of the podium as first time winners in the series. Racing in the Nash Motorsportz Senior Max class during the opening weekend could go down as the best in the series eight-year history. Brenden Baker began the event as the driver to beat, leading Friday Final Practice, and scoring the pole position on Saturday. He was joined at the front of the field by Mason Marotta, Luke Selliken and former Junior Max series champion Louie Pagano in the Prefinal. Marotta took over the lead during the first half of the race, while the rest of the trio

fought for second. Baker eventually emerged with the position, but came up short of catching Marotta before the checkered flag. The first half of the final saw Marotta and Baker pull away from the rest of the field, appearing to set up a duel for the victory. On lap 16, Baker got itchy, and began fighting for the lead. Their scrap allowed the second group of racers to close in, with more charging forward as they continued to fight for position. Selliken muscled his way into the lead taking the two laps to go signal. Coming to the white flag, he and Baker made contact and shuffled off course. Three-wide action, contact, and drivers fighting for every inch over the last lap saw Pagano came through as the leader, crossing the line first. After the high emotions of the race and the win, Pagano’s triumph was for not as an improper part on his Rotax engine was discovered. Marotta, who crossed the line second, was handed a five-position penalty for a carburetor infraction, thus giving the win to Canadian Cedrik Lupien, who emerged in the top-three after the last lap skirmish. Jake Craig was classified second with Selliken landing on the podium in third.

Baker made it an easy call on Sunday, leading the way throughout the day for the sweep in Round Two. His 50.353-second lap gave him the pole position in qualifying. Baker led all 17 laps of the Prefinal with Marotta giving chase. The start of the Final had Blaine Rocha, 2013 Junior Max series champion, sneak through the opening corner for the lead, only to have Baker reclaim the position before reaching the start/finish line for the first time. Saturday winner Lupien and Marotta each took a turn at the point before Baker reclaimed the top spot on lap 13. From there, Baker extended his lead to two seconds, earning his first Senior Max victory. Senior rookie Christian Brooks fought his way forward in the closing laps, gaining the second spot from Marotta on the final circuit. Only six drivers made up the CRG-USA DD2 class on the weekend, but the quality of drivers made it one to watch every time on track. Texas driver Michael Ilavia scored the pole position Saturday as the only driver to dip into the 49-second bracket. Last year’s vice-champion Sabré Cook came from the third starting spot, taking over the lead on lap two of the Prefinal and walking away with the win. She made it look easy, laying down consistent laps in the Final to score the first victory of 2015. Ilavia was a solid second with Christian Bird able to land third. Veteran driver Matt Jaskol, making his first series start, landed

on Sunday’s provisional pole position, only to have it taken away following a technical infraction, giving Cook the pole position for the Prefinal. She and Ilavia fought for the lead early, and contact was made, dropping both to fourth and fifth. Cook fought back, retaking the lead by lap five, going on to score the win. The Final was another great 25-lap event, with the drivers shuffling for position early. Eventually, Cook, Ilavia, and Jaskol pulled away. Cook continued to run consistent laps, but Ilavia would not go away. On the final lap, Ilavia made a surprise move at turn nine, catching Cook off guard. Ilavia held on to the checkered flag, scoring his first series victory. Cook settled for second with Jaskol in third. New for the Cambrian Go-Karts Masters Max category in 2015 at the Rotax Challenge of the Americas, a Rotax Grand Finals ticket to the series champion. That has brought in a number of former series champions and big names from throughout the west coast. Former champion John Crow set the tone on the weekend, landing the pole position for Saturday’s opening round. The Prefinal was among the best races of the event, with the top-eight all within striking distance at one point. The race came down to Scott Falcone challenging Paul Bonilla - both former series champions. Falcone made a deep braking move in the second to last corner, drifting wide on the exit and allowing Bonilla to sneak away with the win. Bonilla retained the lead at the start of the Final, and managed to lead all 25 laps for the win. Crow hounded him early, but lost the position to Joey McGuire by the halfway point. McGuire however was handed a penalty in technical inspection, moving Crow up to second and 2014 US Grand Nationals champion Ken Maxfield to third. Bonilla went on to sweep the second round on Sunday. Scoring the fast time in qualifying, Bonilla went wire-to-wire in the Prefinal and the Final. Crow matched his pace in the Final, recording the fast lap, but could not challenge for the lead. Max division welcomed two new drivers to the list of series winners. Sting Ray Robb and Nick Brueckner, both beginning their second season in the category, dominated the weekend with each taking home a main event win. Qualifying both days belonged to Brueckner, posting a 51.840-second lap on Saturday, and 51.715-second lap on Sunday. Brueckner led all 17 laps of the Prefinal Saturday, with Robb striking early in the Final. Taking over the lead on lap two, he went on to score the victory. Brueckner ran a close second with Canadian Kellen Ritter earning his first podium finish of the series. Sunday, Robb won the Prefinal after taking away the lead early on from Brueckner as they once again finished 1-2. Robb led the first half of the main event, until he and Brueckner jostled for the lead. Their fighting allowed David Ilavia and Ritter to

close in, making it a four driver battle. Coming to the white flag, Brueckner and Robb went wide at turn 10, allowing both Ritter and Ilavia through for the top two positions. On the final lap, Ilavia attempted a pass at turn nine, and contact was made. This allowed Brueckner to slip through for the lead and the victory. Ilavia crossed the line in second but was handed a 10-second penalty for the contact with Ritter. That promoted Robb to second and put Junior Max rookie Trey Brown on the podium in third. Two different nations were represented on top of the podium in the PSL West Mini Max category on the opening weekend. Canadian Griffin Dowler won a dramatic race Saturday while Mexican driver Sebastian Alvarez dominated the Sunday proceedings. Utah driver Payton Durrant scored the pole position in qualifying on Saturday, only to see Alvarez take the point away in the opening corner of the Prefinal for the race win. 2012 Micro Max series champion Jacob Blue Hudson had one of the quickest karts early on, and helped to bring in a group of drivers to battle Alvarez for the win in the main event. On consecutive laps while jostling for the lead, contact was made and took Durrant, Hudson, and Austin Torgerson out of contention. Dowler emerged as the leader and held on for the remaining laps for the win. Marco Kacic made it a Canada 1-2, with 2013 Micro Max series champion Jak Crawford landing on the podium in third for his first Mini Max start. Alvarez was able to hold off a late charge by Durrant in the qualifying session Sunday to earn the pole position for the Prefinal. Alvarez would go the rest of the day unchallenged, winning the pre-main by over a second and the

Final by nearly five, leading all 18 laps. Junior rookie Torgerson won the battle for second with Dowler once again on the podium in third. Diego LaRoque went scoreless in 2014, and made sure that was not the issue this year, winning both main events of the Motorsports Development Group Micro Max division. LaRoque edged out Josh Pierson for the pole position on Saturday by 73 thousandths of a second. They were joined by Cole Keith Cotham in the fight for the Prefinal win, with Diego crossing first and Cotham second. Pierson and LaRoque were able to break away from the field with the two exchanging the lead a number of times. LaRoque led the most important lap, taking the checkered flag first ahead of Pierson. Cotham was third, but a technical infraction took him off the podium, putting Ashton Torgerson into third. Pierson came back to earn the pole position on Sunday, three hundredths quicker then LaRoque. The start of the Prefinal saw LaRoque involved in contact, dropping him down to the tail of the field. Fighting his way back to fifth, another spin dropped him down the order eventually finishing seventh. Torgerson won the Prefinal race with a drag race to the line, edging out Pierson. LaRoque joined the three leaders quickly in the Final, as the four fought for the final win of the weekend. LaRoque was able to hold off a final charge by Pierson for the victory, with Cotham in third. SOME OF THE BEST SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA HAS TO OFFER WAS ON HAND TO GREET RACE TEAMS AS THEY ARRIVED FRIDAY, JANUARY 16TH AT CAL SPEED FOR THE 47TH CALIFORNIA STATE KARTING CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY APM RACING

A unique, never before raced track configuration was designed just for this race. Hosts, Tri-C Karters, kicked off the

2015 racing season with sunny skies, 75 degree temperatures and free lunch from In-n-Out Burger for everyone.

Perfect racing conditions were on tap as over 120 racers unloaded karts and set up EZ ups Saturday morning. After two practice sessions, 6 classes were set to qualify on the new track configuration with an 800 foot downhill straightway.

In the Huddy Motorsports Kid Kart class the heavily sponsored Sheldon Andrews (Excel Racing, Maximus Racing Oils, Unlimited Metalcraft, Reed Heavy Transport, Coastline Steel, A&D Logistics, and Sanner Racing) put it on pole over Zach “Attack” Martinez, Carson Morgan, Drake Cardey, Logan Ainsworth, Kaitlyn Schwartz, and Dane Idelson. In Heat 2, it was more of the same and the fans could not take their eyes off of the young guns of the sport, the next generation, the future of racing with Andrews, Idelson, and Morgan going at it. After a spin in Monaco by Idelson, Morgan and Andrews were left fighting for first and second. Andrews took first, Morgan Second, and Drake Cardey in the show spot. In the HMS Kid Kart main, it was Andrews on the holeshot, with Morgan taking the lead early on. At the halfway point, Idelson was up front followed by Morgan, Andrews, Martinez, and Cardey in the M&Ms kart. When the checkered flag flew Sheldon Andrews was first across the line becoming the first California State Champion of the weekend. These talented young racers collected a variety of prizes from key sponsors including custom designed podium awards from J&M Trophy, Bridgestone hats from Empire Karts, and custom prize packages from Motul. Zachary Martinez earned the K1 Hard Charger Award and the Champion, Andrews, also received an engraved Poseidon watch from Kienzle and a prize package from Courtney Concepts.

Twelve talented drivers (with Bobby Kelley) showed up on the grid for the first heat of the Acceleration Karting TaG Sr race. It took three attempts to corral the drivers at the start before Kelley steered the field through the first turn. Steven Barros, making a much heralded return to racing, put pressure on Kelley, but came up short with Tim Meyer in third. In Heat 2 it was the MDG, Birel, and P1 sponsored Kelley with the holeshot and the win as Meyer put a nice move on Barros to grab second. .  The youngest driver in the field, Arie “K1” Zimmermann finished fourth behind Barros. In the Main event, “call him butter because he was on a roll” Bobby Kelley in the #32 came off the track the 2015 TaG Sr. California State Champion (and the winner of a brand new set of Bridgestone tires from Empire Karts). Barros was strong in his return, grabbing second followed closely by Tim Meyer in third, Jin Bai in fourth and Josh “Buck Cherry” Todd in fifth. Jin Bai also took the home the K1 Hard Charger Award.

moved up to second late in the race. Heat 2 was even more of the Bryan Evans Show, dominating over Perry and McWhinney. Top Kart swept the first four places in the Main with Evans ahead of Perry, McWhinney and Adams. Kameron Perry was also the lucky KPV-2 driver to win the Haddock Ltd. $200 award. Following in fifth thru eighth were Jake Franklin (also the K1 Hard Charger Award recipient), Tanner Jacobs-Bonnett, Jared Patterson and Dane Tharp. Jared and Dane were both winners of the TDC Kart Racing Components custom number panel sets.

Top Qualifier Steve Donald paced the 18 driver-strong field in the 1st Heat of the Hyper Racing Engines World Formula race. The front row tangoed during the opening laps but at the halfway point Dennis Uebersetzig of Velocity Karting took the lead with a sweet move on the long straight into the tight Monaco turn, eventually taking the win over Donald and Larry Harden. The World Formula class is known for close, tight racing that emphasizes driver concentration and kart setup and Heat 2 was no exception.  Uebersetzig was able to fend off Donald, Harden, and John Lonero but, unfortunately, had a rear bumper issue in tech that put him in the back for the Main start. On lap one, a scary incident out of Kornikurva involving the Lucas Oil kart of Brad Hilwig temporarily halted the race.  Fortunately, Brad was able to walk away with only minor injuries. Team T driver Steve Donald took the win over dirt track specialist JJ Ercse, Larry Harden, and Kari Hilwig, the K1Hard Charger recipient.Ethan Ho was the #1 qualifier in the Atomic Karting Jr 1 Comer race. There was exciting racing all day in this class with Stephen Brucker winning over Ho and Alex Diakoumopoulos in Heat 1. In Heat 2, Brucker got the early advantage with Alex Diakoumopoulos moving to the front at the halfway point. Brucker regained the lead as he made a move on the white flag lap for the win, Alex close behind. In the Main, Brucker had the early advantage over Dakota Tate. Ho was running in 3rd over Alex and the Gibson Performance Exhaust rock star, Chance Gibson. On the white flag lap Brucker and Tate had contact in Kornikurva and it finished with Ethan

Ho in first, with the Diakoumopoulos brothers, Alex and George over Tate and Brucker. George Diakoumopoulos snagged the K1 Hard Charger Award.

  The final class of the day was the Velocity Karting KPV 4 Sr. race with $2,200 in cash on the line. Up and coming, new Sr. driver Aaron Aguirre would lead the 26 kart field in Heat 1 over Kyle Kuntze and the Bakersfield Bullet, Tyler Coffman. Heat 2 started with Kuntze on the holeshot over Aguirre. Skaufel also had a great start over Grable for 3rd and 4th. With only three laps to go Aguirre made an inside move at the end of the straight for a five kart length win over Kuntze and Skaufel. In the Main, Aguirre got the early lead over Kuntze, Erik “Action” Jackson, and Skaufel. Grable spun on lap 2 through Monaco and Chris Wesson moved into 3rd. Again with three to go, Kuntze got the lead on the straight with Aguirre on the outside of Horseshoe. At the checkered flag it was Aaron Aguirre claiming not only the California State Karting Championship

James Hayner, finishing in eleventh took home The K1 Hard Charger Award.Sunday was another great day of racing with the Baldozier Racing TAG Masters race getting it started. Roy Steele went P1 followed by Branden Bell and Brian Phillipsen. In Heat 1 Steele started out in first with Phillipsen and Josh Todd of Nash Motorsports in third. Brian and Roy traded off for the lead but in the end Tim Meyer took first. In Heat 2, the early advantage went to Steele, but it did not take Meyer long to pull into the leader spot. Todd was running in third with two to go and Phillipsen behind him. The final finish was Meyer, Steele, Phillipsen. The Main was all Tim Meyer as he was faster than a seal on shark week. By lap four, with the field spreading out, Phillipsen and Todd were in second and third. The race finished up with Tim Meyer having

a near six second victory over second place (and K1 Hard Charger winner) Josh Todd and third place Brian Phillipsen.    The PRD Sr. race, sponsored by Courtney Concepts, ran with the P1 Engines TaG Jr. Leopard class. The “Royal One”, Royal McKee out of Las Vegas dominated over Dane Tharp in TaG Jr. It was Tyler Reviere Verninas looking good in PRD Sr. until the Main when another Vegas driver, Joey Paonessa took the win with Connor Funk finishing second. Paonessa had a great day also winning the K1 Hard Charger Award, a K1 driving suit and a custom helmet paint job from PMT Designs.    As the day started to wind down, the HKE KPV 1 race finished with Dakota Tate qualifying in first place. In Heat 1 it was Dakota Tate and Marcus Rodriguez taking turns on the lead before Tate took the win over Rodriguez and George Diakoumopoulos finished third. Heat 2 was action packed as the Diakoumopoulos brothers ran one (George) and two (Alex) early before Rodriguez took the lead. Rodriguez held on over Tate and the “Taiwan Tornado” Ethan Ho. The Main was incredible, with many lead changes throughout. Tate and Rodriguez ended up in a photo finish with Tate taking the win by .003 seconds. George D. put a move on Chance Gibson and took third (and the K1 Hard Charger Award) Marcus Rodriguez was the lucky winner of Sunday’s $200 Haddock Ltd. Award.  The Mike Manning Karting TAG Sr. Pro race brought the weekend to a close. In Qualifying, “Quick” Nick Ramirez was on pole with Saturday’s big winner, Aaron Aguirre, looking to get even richer. In Heat 1 Ramirez was on the holeshot with Jonathan Miller and Aguirre battling for position. Ramirez took first over Miller and Aguirre. In Heat 2, it was a great race with Ramirez out front early over Aguirre and Miller. On the white flag Neil Alberico, in a much anticipated return to karting, made a move for second on Ramirez. Miller took the win over Alberico, Ramirez, and Aguirre. The Main proved to be exciting with $2000 on the line. Nick Ramirez had an early lead with Alberico moving up to second. On lap 5, Neil was in the lead

briefly but Ramirez grabbed it back. At the checkered flag it was Ramirez with the win and $1500, Alberico taking second and $300 (and the K1 hard Charger Award) and

Miller in third with $200 in prize money.  Unfortunately all good racing must come to an end but in this case it is only

Dallas Hollins: How old were you when you started racing?Jake Craig: I was five years old.

DH: How did you get into it? JC: My dad got me into it.

DH: Your dad use to race, right? JC: My dad used to race dragsters. DH: So what made you choose karting

instead of drag racing? JC: Corners.

DH: You race S2, TaG Sr., and Senior Rotax. That’s physically taxing, so how do you keep fit? JC: I have a workout program that I do at the gym, and then I also run.

DH: You got a very important phone call from the guys in Maranello at Ferrari. Can you tell me a little bit about your trip to Italy? JC: It was a week-long trip. They had different courses that we went through. We had

medical training, physical training, we had Mind Room for mental training, we had on-track, and a simulator to prepare for on-track.

DH: What kind of car did you get to drive? JC: It was a Formula 4 car.

DH: You’ve never been in a racecar before? JC: That was my first time ever in a racecar.

DH: A lot of people are getting into cars earlier and earlier. We’re seeing kids start around the age of twelve or thirteen. You’re seventeen, what took you so long to make the move? JC: I think the longer you’re in karts the better. Just because that’s where you’re going to learn the most. You get the most track time and you get the most racing experience, I think it’s the best way to learn.

DH: Have you heard anything back from Ferrari? JC: No, but I’m going back after the Grand Finals, so I’ll catch up with them then.

DH: If nothing comes of Ferrari, will you still pursue cars? JC: It depends on how this next year goes and what opportunities I get in karting. Depending on where that leads I’ll either just stay in karting or pursue Formula 1.

DH: Where do you see your career going? JC: I would like to end up at the top of either Formula 1, or be a factory driver in Europe in karting. DH: Are you interested in any other

types of racing?JC: The only other form of racing that appeals to me is V8 supercars.

DH: Do you watch any other series like TUDOR SportsCar racing or DTM? JC: No, I don’t really have time to watch racing. I don’t even watch Formula 1 because I don’t have time.

DH: What’s your favorite racetrack? JC: I would say NOLA Motorsports Park and Al Ain in Dubai.

DH: You went to Dubai? JC: Yeah, for the Rotax Grand Finals in 2011.

DH: Any racetrack you wish you could race on? JC: Probably Monaco.

DH: Would Monaco be your dream race to win as well?

JC: Yeah.

DH: What are your interests outside of the racetrack? JC: I like personal fitness and just training. I really enjoy that.

DH: Do you have a backup plan? JC: If I couldn’t do anything within driving, I would just do something within karting because my brother has Tru Tech Racing Engines so there’s always somewhere for me to go.

DH: What’s the most important thing you’ve learned in racing so far? JC: Probably just how much hard work pays off.
