Grade 3 & 4 Zoo Excursion

Grade 4 students had a wonderful time at the zoo last week, learning about how to protect our environment and keep the oceans rubbish-free for seals and other sea life. We visited some endangered species, and discovered that some companies are still using palm oil, which puts the Orang-utans on the ‘Critically Endangered’ species list.

Below are some of the students’ thoughts about the day:

On the 21st May, the Grade 4s went for a trip to the

zoo. When the bus left, everyone was buzzing with excitement. When we got there, we split up into 8 groups. We all went to different habitats. My group went to the tigers first.

Halfway through the day, we went to a seal show. The seal show was about a seal who nearly died by getting stuck in some rubbish. We have put so much rubbish in the ocean that we are hurting our seal friends! For example, when we have balloons outdoors, they fly and go into the ocean. So they said to use bubbles, not balloons.

My favourite animal was the meerkats. They always had one meerkat up the top to keep a look out. We also saw lions, snow leopards, gorillas, elephants, King Juliens (which are lemurs from the Madagascar Movie), giraffes and MORE! My group was lucky enough to go to the Dino Park. Gosh, it was a big day!

On the Friday the 18th of June, the Grade 3s went to the Zoo. We were

focusing on endangered species, but we looked at other animals anyway. We also got a booklet. In the booklet we had to write about an orangutan, fur seal and corroboree frog. We saw a zebra, giraffe, reptile section, butterflies and way, way more. The bus was very comfy. Ms. George, Ms. Pappin, Mrs. Vilinskis, Mrs. Meath, Ms. Davies and Wendy helped us. It was vey interesting and I was amused. I am thankful to the people who organised the excursion. We had loads of fun!

The Zoo was really fun. We saw a lot of animals. My favourite animal was the lion. Did you know that orangutans are very intelligent?

Friday 21st School Assembly 2.20pm in the stadium. All welcome to attend. School Disco 6.00pm - 7.30pm in the stadium.

Wednesday 26th 3 Way Conferences. No regular classes operate on this day. Students only come to school with their parent for their 3 Way Conference time. 12.00 noon –6.30pm.

Friday 28th CSEF Parent Applications close. End of Term – Finish at 2.30pm.

Monday 15th First day Term 3.

AUGUST

Friday 23rd Book Fair Dress Up, Dress up as favourite book character.

SEPTEMBER

Wednesday 4th Fathers Day Breakfast 8.00am onwards, children’s classrooms will be open for half an hour for dad’s / special friends to visit.

SICK BAY LINEN ROSTER - HELP NEEDED

We are looking for some more parents who are able to assist in the washing and changing of the linen in our sick bay. In most cases this means 2 or 3 times a year. If you are able to help out please return this form to the office by Friday

Unfortunately next Tuesday will be Kylie Pyne’s last day at Kilmore Primary School. On behalf of the Kilmore Primary School Community, I would like to thank her for the incredible work she has done over the past 4 years for our school. We wish her luck in her future endeavours. Thank you Kylie!

There was a mix up last week with the date that our 3 Way Conferences was advertised. This should have read as: 3 Way Conferences will be held on Wednesday the 26

th of June. No regular

classes operate on this day. Students only come to school with their parent for their 3 Way Conference time between 12.00 noon – 6.30pm. Please see the information attached to book your 3 Way Conference.

Just a reminder, Parent/Guardian Occupation & Education Confirmation forms went home last week these need to be returned by Friday 31st May. Copies are available from the office for or the eldest student in the family only.

If you have not registered for the portal yet, or you have not entered your Unique

Family Code, please see the letter that was emailed earlier in the year, to finalise

this process. If you need assistance with resetting your portal password, either

email the school or contact the school via phone on: 5782 1268

For parents/guardians who don’t have access to the internet at home, at work, at a friend’s house or on their phones, they can contact the school office on 5782 1268 and a 3 Way Interview time will be made on your behalf.

3 Way Conferences are strictly 10mins and spaces are limited. If you require

more time, please contact your teacher directly to make alternative

arrangements.

Students in Grade 3-6 are involved in ‘Split Maths’. This means that they may

have a different teacher for Maths than their regular classroom teacher. If this

applies to your child and you would like to speak specifically to your child’s

Maths Teacher, you are welcome to contact them via email and arrange a

suitable appointment time on a different day. Class teachers will be up to date

with the Maths progress of all the students in their class and will be able to

discuss general achievements and areas for future learning.

Parents can change their bookings, any time prior to the closing date, by re-visiting the Sentral portal. Parents wishing to change their times after the closing date should contact the school directly on 5782 1268.

Teach your child how to keep themselves safe (part 2)

Following on from last fortnights Tips 1 -5, here are the next five things you can do to assist your child/ren to keep themselves safe. Let them know:

Tip 6 Their body is their own – once a child no longer needs nappies to be changed or help with toileting, a carer or any other person should not touch their private areas.

Tip 7 To tell you or another adult if they have any problems or if someone is making them feel unsafe.

Tip 8 A babysitter or any other adult should not ask a child to keep a secret.

Tip 9 Not to give out personal information online, including their school, suburb, sporting team or nicknames and to never meet someone they have met online in person.
