TOUCH FOOTBALL

On Tuesday 13th August the boys touch football team travelled to Ulladulla to compete in round 4 of the Knockout competition.

With injury and illness striking our team in the days leading up to our game, playing the game with only 1 sub, the boys showed spirit, some great skill and sportsmanship in our loss. Ulladulla Public School were just too good for us on the day and we congratulate them on the way they played the game. Thank you to our wonderful support crew of parents who travelled with us. We appreciate your support.

Mrs Muir, Boys Touch Football Coach

DISTRICT ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

On Friday 2nd August, the Eurobodalla District Athletics carnival was held in Narooma. It was a great day and our athletes were very successful. They competed with great sportsmanship and showed plenty of determination to achieve many personal bests.

The following athletes have qualified for the Regional Athletics Carnival to be held in Canberra on Friday 13th September. Congratulations Jade Wilson, Bray Constable, Joel Constable, Rogue Constable, James Kay, Mitch Lavis, Dhardyan Hill, Meah Beecham, Dakoda Baker, Daniel Betts, Ruben Smithers and Phoebe Davies. Hopefully we’ll be able to include Jett Cook as well as we are currently awaiting confirmation of 800m qualifiers.

We wish these athletes all the best in their training leading up to the carnival and good luck on the day.

Mrs Muir, District Athletics Coordinator and Regional Athletics Manager

GIRLS RUGBY LEAGUE

Last Thursday Narooma PS took part in our first ever girls Rugby League Gala Day, the Kezie Apps Shield, held at McKay Park, Batemans Bay.

Our squad was: Rogue Constable, Bella Davis, Lilli Herman, Chantelle De Hume, Kymiah Stewart, Meah Beecham, Alyssa Moore, Shamiyah Kay-Stewart, Matilda McLaren, Topaz Dudley and Harmony Cannon.

A fantastic day of rugby league and sportsmanship was had by all. The girls played three games on the day with the first game resulting in a 34-6 victory over Eden PS. The team then followed this with a 40-4 win over Braidwood Central School, which took them into a very exciting final against Tathra which they narrowly lost 16-8.

The team thoroughly enjoyed their first taste of tackle rugby league and can be very proud of their efforts. All the girls played well and didn’t take a backward step all day, resulting in 18 tries scored with just 4 against.

A big thank you to parents for their support on the day. Special thanks to Mr Nigel Constable for his help with training and preparing the team.

CRITICAL SHORTAGE OF ETHICS TEACHERS LOOMS Ethics classes are an important part of school life and have been running for over 5 years as an alternative to Scripture classes or ‘non Scripture’.

The children involved relish the opportunity to learn about various ethical questions such as ‘Being Greedy’, ‘Cheating’ and ‘Being Kind’.

At the same time as they grapple with these issues, they are learning how to have a respectful discussion with someone who disagrees with them; how to ask questions and weigh evidence about a topic; and how to behave well in a group discussion.

The Ethics program depends on volunteers – and the volunteers also have lives away from the school so sometimes they have to stop teaching ethics because of work, study, family or health issues.

This year we have only been able to hold Ethics Classes for Year 1, 2 and 3. Next year we will be losing a teacher, so we are facing a critical shortage of teachers. We need more volunteers!

If you think you would like to be more involved in your child’s education and in the school community, contact Mog Bremner, the Ethics Coordinator, on [email protected] or ring me on 0401 968 899.
