Following is a very brief recap of some of the major legislation passed. Watch for more detail in an upcoming issue of Moravian Magazine. Synod delegates affirmed a full communion relationship with the United Methodist Church. This completed the process for establishing full communion, , having been established in April by the Synod of the Southern Province and in 2016 by the General Conference of the United Methodist Church. Legislation was passed calling for humane treatment of immigrants, whether legal or illegal; and calling for immediate steps to reunite families separated at the U.S. border. Other resolutions passed renounced violence, gender bias and racism. An annual Moravian Day of Service will be designated, starting in spring of 2019, as an opportunity for Moravians to join together in service to others. Also, congregations are encouraged to hold an annual “Global Mission Sunday”, which will focus on opportunities to be involved in global mission endeavors. A resolution was passed encouraging congregations to show hospitality to neighbors by opening their buildings as spaces for ministries and community partnerships. The PEC and District Boards will consider providing grants to help defray building/custodial maintenance costs in order to cultivate ministries of hospitality and welcome neighborhood groups into our church buildings. The sense of community, of truly being brothers and sisters in Christ, was prevalent throughout our time together. I’m grateful to the congregation for the opportunity to represent CMC at the Synod of the Moravian Church Northern Province, held in Bethlehem, PA June 21-24.

Your Joint Board continues working hard to make our transition to a part-time Pastor as smooth as possible. We all know that there are a lot of issues that need to be dealt with as we navigate these uncharted waters. We need your help as we try new ways to continue to be the church. We are trying to communicate and keep everyone in on the process, but we also need you to help us out by letting us know what is working and what is challenging to you in your encounters with the church. If you have any suggestions, comments or issues during this transitional time, PLEASE let us know so that we can include your input in the decision making process. CMC Joint Board members, Mike Eder, Phil Schramm, Dwight Crisman, Kelly Jeremiason, Karl Taylor, Jill Edwardsen, Tammy Riesgraf, Katie Nordby
