June 2017 Chaska Moravian Church A Word from Rev. Mike Eder… W ell, as of today, it’s official. Your pastor has now passed the final signpost, rounded the last bend, entered into the home stretch, put away his childhood ways, gone boldly into the final frontier and taken the plunge into full time, full blown, full featured elderliness. How fondly I look back on that fateful day some 15 years ago when I first realized I could order off the “senior” menu at a local bistro, the first time a carry out boy called me “sir,” or seeing my first “Star Wars” movie on a senior discount. Now, it seems like such a whirlwind courtship and a sprint to the prize. As the world has grown past the dire predictions in George Orwell’s epic novel 1984, so have I now gone “on beyond Zebra”, past the Beatles plea to “still love me, when I’m 64,” and into a new era in an ever-eroding body with new lumps and bumps and creases and folds and aches developing every day. I’m told I no longer get cuts and scratches because now they’re called “skin tears.” On the other hand, things that I used to call mistakes, blunders, and bad judgement are now simply rolled into the category of “senior moments,” and while at the age of 50 my kids thought I should remember the dinosaurs, now they don’t expect me to remember what I had for breakfast… My age has greatly increased my gratitude for things I used to take for granted like hot showers and Sensodyne toothpaste and finding my way to the church in the dark. It has also given me new experiences to savor like watching grandchildren grow up and something I inherited from my grandfather Everett Edberg, the obligatory 2:00 nap. The good news is that I’m now closer than ever to the majority of my congregation and I have a whole new category of sermon illustrations to draw from like how “I am the way, the truth and the life” can be about Jesus helping you find your way to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Life in God’s created world continues to engage, entertain and exacerbate like it did in Alice’s Wonderland, “curiouser and curiouser” it becomes. The hour is late, my work for today is complete, time to call it a day and go home. Now if I could only remember where I left my car keys… In His Service, Pastor Mike CHASKA DOWNTOWN FARMERS MARKET at City Square Park Wednesdays, 6/28 – 9/13 3pm-7pm NEW THIS YEAR: Power Of Produce Program (PoP), a program for kids 4-13, offering each child a $2 free token to purchase fruits and vegetables from the vendors. Chaska Moravian Church A Word from Rev. Mike Eder…

W ell, as of today, it’s official.

Now if I could only remember where I left my car keys…

The Moravian Women (& many individuals from Chaska Moravian Church) support Auburn Homes & Services’ efforts financially, through volunteering, and in other ways. Moravian Women recently received a letter which reads, in part: “Auburn Homes & Services has been caring for generations of seniors in our community for over 86 years, empowering our residents to live with purpose and passion. The Minnesota Department of Human Services’ Report Card for 2016, studying quality of life issues in 374 certified programs, rated Auburn Homes & Services in Chaska and Waconia as the #1 and #3 certified nursing care facilities in the state! This would not be possible without your help. We deeply appreciate your partnership in this important mission and look forward to growing together in the coming year.” Bob Kuhlman, Director of Moravian Care Foundation
