Tuition Fees

For UK and EU students applying for a full

time Higher Education course at New

College Stamford starting in September

2014, the tuition fee will be £5,999 per

annum. Fees for part time courses may

differ – please contact us for details.

Tuition fees do not have to be paid ‘up

front’. All students are eligible to take out a

student loan to cover the whole tuition

course fee over the duration of your course.

Applying for Student Finance

The Government student loans company

‘Student Finance England’ facilitates the

allocation and repayment of loans to Higher

Education students in the UK. There are a

few financial packages available that could

help you pay for the costs of studying:

If you need to apply for a tuition fee loan,

maintenance loan, and / or maintenance

grant simply log on to https://www.gov.uk/

apply-online-for-student-finance and

complete the form. You can apply online as

soon as you have applied to us.

In Higher Education, 'full time' and 'part

time' study is measured by the number of

credits completed each year. If 120 credits

are completed in the Academic Year then

the course is considered 'full time'. Use this

prospectus to find out if your course is full

time or part time.

For full time courses you will also need the

relevant UCAS course code for your

student finance application. Again, these

are detailed in this prospectus.

If you have any questions about your

application please contact our Learner

Services Team on 01780 484311.

Tuition Fee Loan

A loan that covers the full cost of tuition

fees over the duration of your course. Your

fees are paid directly from Student Finance

England to us, so no need to worry about

paperwork or paying fees on time!

Maintenance Loan

A loan to help with living costs. Students

from lower income households may be

eligible for more.

Maintenance Grant

A grant of up to £3,250 per year is available

to lower income households. You do not

have to pay this back. If your household

income is under £25,000 you will get the

full grant. Households with incomes

between £25,000 and £42,500 will get a

proportion of the grant.

Additional Support

You could be eligible for more financial

support if you have a disability or learning

difficulty or if you have adults or children

who are dependent on you.

Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA)

Local Education Authorities (LEAs) can

award DSAs to part time and full time

undergraduate students who can show that

they have a disability, mental health

condition or specific learning difficulty that

affects their ability to study. The DSA helps

pay for any extra costs as a direct result of

your learning disability or learning

difficulty. The allowance can help with the

cost of a non-medical personal helper,

items of specialist equipment, travel and

other course-related costs.

A copy of ‘Bridging the Gap: a Guide to the

Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs) in

Higher Education’ is available from

www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance. To find

out how much you are eligible for go to

the ‘Student Finance Calculator’ on the

same site.

Money Matters

National Scholarship Programme (NSP)

You could get £2000 off your first year’s

course fees and receive £1000 cash.

In 2014-15 the Government provides

funding to allow the College to offer

fourteen Scholarships for students who

come onto our full or part time Higher

Education programmes. Each

Scholarship is worth £3000 and £2000 of

this money will be used towards your

course fees in the first year and £1000 can

be used to pay for transport, books or

other costs or materials. To qualify for a

Scholarship your household income

must be £25000 or less each year. As

there will probably be more applications

for bursaries than we have, we

particularly encourage students in the

following categories to apply:

• Learners from lower socio-economic

groups

• Students with disabilities

• Students who were looked after

children or care leavers

• Students from ethnic minority groups

• Travellers

• Refugees

If you apply to us for a Higher Education

acceptance we will also inform you in

more detail about the Scholarship

Scheme and enclose an application form

inviting you to apply if you meet the

criteria. You are not guaranteed to receive

a Scholarship.

research project. You will also consider the

diverse ways children learn both formally

and informally. You will also address issues

relating to children’s rights and supporting

families. You will undertake a small

research project for your final assessment.

This Early Childhood course has been fully

recognised by the Children's Workforce

Development Council (CWDC) as

appropriate for early years practitioners.

Assessment

A variety of assessment methods are used

including group and individual

presentations, written assignments such as

based learning and examination. All

assessment allows and encourages you to

professionals set by the Government

through the professionalisation of the

children's and youth workforce (DCSF 2008).

Many graduates progress to complete the

honours degree, usually at BGU, where, as with

Joel’s story...Studying Graphic Design at New College Stamford was paramount in launching my career in the

design industry. The years spent at Stamford stood me in good stead for the future. The course is

run with passion from both the course leaders and the lecturers involved, this definitely passed on

to me and by the second year I was beginning to mature and really love design as a career choice.

The support from specialist lecturers was insightful, inspiring and I found them all to be fountains

of knowledge. The course leader has also become a great friend and mentor. The support, passion,

knowledge and drive shown by him over the three years really shaped me into the designer I am

today. I owe everything to these great teachers.

During my time on the course I gained industry experience via the graduate internship set up

with local businesses. I did a year with Lands' End where I worked with the creative team on the

catalogue. This proved to be a steep learning curve and was my first real foray into industry. I

worked closely with the Design Manager where we would report to the Creative Director with

spread designs and layouts, image options and typography. I was also involved in video

conferences with our colleagues located in America and Germany. We would have to design our

spreads in line with what America were doing but we had more products to fit on to each spread

so this always proved quite a challenge, but ultimately has made me a better designer.

Unfortunately, the creative team was made redundant part-way through my internship as

America wanted to do all the design their end and then change the prices to the relevant country.

My Design Manager put me in contact with Jupiter Design in Nottingham where I have now been

employed for 3 years. I did my first year working on the Wilkinson account working across a

number of creative briefs including a range of in store POS, marketing and online creative. My

biggest piece was working on the Wilkinson annual report. I am now currently working on the

Boots account where I have worked extensively on in-store creative. I have been involved with the

No7 rebrand and worked with the creative team on producing a range of promotional material for

this. Again I have worked on in-store kit for the Botanics re-launch and am really enjoying my time

here. Over the next year I hope to continue to grow within Jupiter and hopefully work across a

number of its accounts.

The College as a whole is a wonderful place to study. I spent five years there in total and glad I did

as I work full time in a career with opportunities doing what I love – it doesn't even feel like work to

me! I would like to personally thank all the staff that have mentored me during my time at the

College and wish them the best for the future.

“We found today extremely useful andinformative. I don’t think anyone on my team

could have comprehended the length andbreadth of techniques and applications that

creative art can be and is used for.

Some of the work was inspiring to say the least.

The work completed by all students was verygood and we are more than happy to progressthese ideas for the site’s mural. My colleagueshave given me some very positive feedback

and once again we were quite shocked by thelevel of detail and flair shown.

Please pass these messages on to the students.”
