DUNE Detector Safety System (DDSS) TPC Electronics for Detector 1

Hardware Assumptions & Considerations:

· Use Beckhoff PLC

· OPC UA to communicate to Ignition or other SCADA (EPICS, JCOP)

· Requires TF6100 OPC UA license

· Loop topology – EtherCAT cable redundancy

· Requires CX5120 PLC or better

· Requires TF6221 EtherCAT Redundancy 250+ license

· PID loops, filters – may use, include in case, not expensive

· Requires TF4100 TC3 Controller Toolbox license

· 30 racks

· 25 racks with low voltage power supplies + 5 racks with bias voltage supplies

· Racks are not dedicated to TPC electronics and may contain other equipment

· Small block of I/O in each rack

· Need EtherCAT couplers to jump rack-to-rack

· 1 × EK1110 EtherCAT extension (for initial block with PLC only)

· 30 × EK1100 EtherCAT coupler

· 30 × EL9011 bus end cap

· 31 × ZK1090-9191-xxxx Ethernet/EtherCAT patch cable

· 808 power supply interlocks

· 150 channels for PTCs, WIBs, and FEMBs + 658 channels for field cage bias voltage

· 25 racks need 6 channels each, 5 racks need

· 5V interlock signal

· 45 × EL9410 Power supply terminal, 24VDC in, 5V/2A outBased on 25 racks with 1 each and 5 racks with 4 each (divide the 36 5V DO terminals into blocks of 9)

· 230 × EL2124 4-channel 5V digital outputBased on 25 racks need 6 channels each (round up to 8), so 2 terminals per rack, and 5 racks need ~132 channels each (round up to 144), so 36 terminals per rack

· Wire directly to 9-pin D-Sub connectors

· 600 fans to control and monitor

· Fan model: Aavid Thermalloy PEAD26025BH PR000

· Fans controlled individually – power only, no speed control

· 150 × EL2014 4-channel 24V 0.5A discrete output with diagnostics (open/short detect)Based on 25 racks need 24 channels each (4 fans × 6 crates), so 6 terminals per rack

· Fan monitored individually – rotation detect (good/bad), not speed

· 150 × EL1004 4-channel 24V digital inputBased on 25 racks need 24 channels each (4 fans × 6 crates), so 6 terminals per rack

· 300 RTDs to measure, 600 heaters to power

· 2 RTDs & 4 heaters per flange × 150 flanges

· Addition 150 RTDs and 300 heaters across 75 flanges for photon detector system (just FYI, not in scope for TPC electronics)

· 1 × EL3052 2-channel 4-20mA analog input – measure temperature/rel. humidity sensor

· Use with Dwyer RHP-2W4D-LCD humidity/temperature/dew point transmitter

· 150 × EL3202-0010 2-channel 4-wire RTD analog inputBased on 25 racks need 12 channels each, so 6 terminals per rack

· 25 × EL9070 shield terminal – no built-in shield terminal on 4-wire RTD modules

· 150 × EL2034 4-channel 24V digital output w/ diagnostics (open/short detect)Based on 25 racks need 24 channels each, so 6 terminals per rack

· 150 PTC cards to communicate with

· 750 WIBs, but new PTC designed to talk to them, so we do not need to

· Support ProfiBUS, ProfiNET, and EtherCAT – we want EtherCAT

· 150 × EK1521 1-port Multimode fibre optic junction

· 150 × ZK1091-1001-xxxx Fibre-optic duplex cable, SC connector on both sides

· Other Hardware

· 26 × 24V power supply – to power PLC and I/O

· DIN rail

· Wire

· Terminal blocks

· Fuses or circuit breakers

· D-sub connectors for Wiener power supply interlocks

· Mounting

· Mount the DIN rail with power supplies and PLC I/O to a panel in each the rack

· Easy to assembly and modify

· Noise concerns?

· ICARUS TPC people claim to see noise from nearby PLC I/O, has not been addressed

· DUNE TPC electronics should be less susceptible to noise than those of ICARUS

· PLC Speed

· Default cycle time is 10ms. Can go down to 1ms depending of program execution time

· UPS

· Desirable to have bias voltage supplies (5 racks) ramp down (15-20 seconds)

· If so, PLC needs to maintain 5V interlock signal
