Dear parents and community members, WiFi Upgrade We are currently having our Wi-Fi upgraded to include all buildings and a substantial area of the playground. This will allow our students to work in and outside of our buildings and create some conducive 21st century outside learning environments. Water Safety Swim school began this week after an administrative hiccup, and we hosted information sessions for all students on Surf Safety. These important inclusions in our teaching and learning programs support our PDHPE curriculum. School Leaders 2019 An exciting time for our Year 5 students and their families to consider their leadership aspirations. I would ask students and their families to carefully consider their nominations and to openly and thoroughly discuss the criteria and expectations of leadership roles. Adherence to wearing full school uniform and meeting behaviour standards are key requisites we seek in our student leaders as role models. Good luck in your deliberations and decisions Year 5. Great War Flying Corps Bear We reported recently in our school newsletter about the participation of one of our parents, Mr Matthew Model, in the Invictus Games. Upon returning home, Mr Model kindly donated a limited edition ‘Lieutenant Thomas Hendy Australian Flying Corps Bear’ to our school. There are several designs of Great War Bears, which

The new ABC series Don't Stop the Music is a very timely reminder about the benefits of music for children's development. Follow the link below for more information - http://education.abc.net.au/newsandarticles/blog/-/b/2974240/music-education-helps-improve-children-s-ability-to-learn Quotes from Dr Anita Collins: After doing something so complex, our brains look at other tasks like reading, problem solving and conceptualisation and say: “Well, this is easy in comparison to music learning!” The act of learning music requires children to use many different parts of their brains at once. Learning music provides children with the cognitive foundations for effective learning, which ultimately helps them become confident learners, ready to make the most of their education.

A big congratulations to Ciara Everden, Mia Lenane and Tom Spilsbury who received Rotary Junior Community Services Awards in recognition of their community service and engagement. To qualify for this award students completed a rigorous project that involved: 10 consecutive weeks of community service Learning a new skill or enhancing an existing

skill through a 10 hour self-improvement program

A minimum of 2 hours per week physical/ recreation activity

Engagement and reporting on 5 key social experiences: a community commemoration, a community meeting, a cultural exchange, a religious or spiritual experience and a cultural/ arts experience.

As you can see, attaining this award required a considerable commitment of time and effort, over

two terms. The students gained much from the experience and we are super proud of their efforts! Congratulations Ciara, Mia and Tom. Mrs Menzies Assistant Principal

Last week K-2 children visited Timbertown. Although

it had been raining for a few days prior, on the day the

weather cleared and we were able to go ahead with

the excursion.

Students enjoyed a ride on the steam train, panned for

gems, watched the blacksmith ply his trade and lots

more fun activities. It was a great day.

NHPS’s two North Coast athletic representatives, Ethan Hensby (13 year boys 100m) & Adam Drewitt (11 year boys shot put) both achieved personal bests at the recent state carnival at Homebush. Ethan ran 14.36 sec in his heat, which qualified him for a place in the final. In the final Ethan broke 14 sec, running a very commendable 13.92sec to finish in 8th place. Adam threw a massive 10.96m (1 metre further than his previous best) to finish 18th in the state!!

What a great achievement for the two North Haven boys who are both relatively new to these events. To qualify for the state carnival augers well for their future athletic careers. Well done Ethan & Adam!
