What evidence is there?• How do we know Jesus’ life is not a fairy story?

– The Gospels and letters of St Paul were written very soon after Jesus died. They all give very similar accounts of Jesus life, and show that many people had experienced him and believed in him as the Son of God, for themselves.

– Roman historians: just recording facts, not interested in advertising for Christianity (Tacitus, Josephus)

– Jewish writings talk about Jesus’ execution. This proves he existed, as Jews would not want to advertise for him.

– Burial caskets of people who died soon after Jesus have inscriptions with “Jesus, let him arise!”. They had heard about the resurrection and believed in it, very early on, before any stories could be made up..

Explain which 2 of these sources of evidence for Jesus you find most convincing, or explain if you don’t find any of them convincing.
