types on %& and the politicians in 'ashington"
%hat can sure ma!e things hard to raise children the right
way" #ut with hard wor! and strong (alues, Iowans seem to
always o(ercome it"
#ut when our politicians in Des )oines lose trac! of our
Iowan (alues -- or flat-out start wor!ing against them -- it’s
*ust too close for comfort"
)y name is )ar! #randen+urg, and I’m running for tate
$ouse right here in District 100"
s you’ll see, there’s a sur(ey I’(e included with this
letter" 'on’t you please fill it out and rush it +ac! to me
today.
I !now you care *ust as much as I do a+out the future of
our state, so I want to !now what you +elie(e are the critical
issues facing Iowa"

'or! to restore fiscal responsi+ility" ut of all the

wisely
3romote economic de(elopment" %he truth is, Iowa can
attract new *o+s +y cutting taxes and red tape and +y
preser(ing our state’s cherished 4ight to 'or! 5aw
Defend Iowa (alues, li!e the econd mendment and the
sanctity of life
3ut teachers and parents +ac! in charge of education"
6ontrol o(er local schools must +e put +ac! into the
hands of parents and teachers"
%he fact is, the decisions made in Des )oines affect all of
us"
%hat’s why it’s (ital that we Iowans, who want to preser(e
our way of life for the next generation, stand up to the tax-
and-spenders and tell them “enough is enough7”
If you agree with me, please fill out the enclosed sur(ey
and rush it +ac! to my campaign %D8"
s a child, my parents wor!ed hard to instill in me the
traditional merican (alues of hard wor!, personal
responsi+ility, faith in 9od and respect for friends and
neigh+ors"
:ust +y watching my fol!s lead +y example, I saw how theyalways !ept their priorities in order, how they set a +udget,
stuc! to it and li(ed within their means"
%hose lessons ha(e +een in(alua+le to me in my life as I’(e
wor!ed hard to stay acti(e in our community"
I thin! that’s pro+a+ly why what’s +een going on in Des
)oines o(er the past couple of years +others me so much"
%here ha(en’t +een any priorities set" %here hasn’t +een
any spending restraint"
nd there hasn’t +een any thought to what all the new

were faced with nearly a #I55I; dollar deficit"
o, what did the 9eneral ssem+ly do.
Instead of cutting wasteful spending from the +udget, the
9eneral ssem+ly used so-called “stimulus” money from the
federal go(ernment to +alance the +udget"
#ut what happens when that money is no longer a(aila+le.
%he 9eneral ssem+ly will find itself with two options"
Decrease spending to +alance the +udget -- or stic! you and
me with a massi(e tax hi!e7
nd, since they’(e already raised the sales tax +y <=00
)I55I; and pushed for a <2=0 million property tax increase, you
and I can get a good idea of what the “plan” is"
>uite fran!ly, that’s a scenario I don’t want to see unfold"
I thin! it’s time our state legislators start treating us
with a little more respect"
$ow high do taxes need to +e. $ow much money is enough.
f course, the tax-and-spenders’ answer is always “*ust a
little more"”
%hat’s why I +elie(e we need to turn things around -- and
fast"
8ou see, I’m running for office +ecause I thin! it’s time
legislators made due with less"
If you agree that it’s time that we scale +ac! the +ig
go(ernment ideas coming out of Des )oines, then I hope you’ll
ta!e a moment and fill out the enclosed sur(ey"
s I’m sure you !now, running for office isn’t cheap"
o I hope, in addition to your sur(ey, you’ll rush me your
most generous contri+ution to help me pay for the cost of this
campaign"
Direct mail, +umper stic!ers, radio ads and all the rest of
it can +e expensi(e at times"
