Return to the library on Wednesday, February 19 to watch another heartwarming film. The story of America’s much loved Mr. Rogers unfolds in “It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” a tribute to an amazing man. Don’t miss Tom Hanks’ oscar nominee performance in this film. Experiencing Contrasts in South Africa Dawn Navis spent several weeks during January in Welcome, Free State, South Africa. She will share her unique experiences with our community on Sunday, February 23 at 2 p.m. Come and hear about the social and economic contrasts in this distant location. Dawn worked with children in an orphanage as well as traveled on an African safari, so she saw the hopeless as well as the hope-filled elements of the society. Everyone is welcome to this one–hour presentation. Refreshments will be served. Spring Programs The spring library programs for children begin the week of January 27. There are openings in the Story Times for pre-school age children as well as in the afterschool clubs. Check the library website for specific dates and times. Registration for the 10-week program is required and can be done online when you visit the library website at www.sewardlibrary.org. If weather conditions cause the Seward Public Schools to close there will be no children’s programs at the library. February Holiday Craft in the Library On Tuesday, February 4 Seward Memorial Library will host a “Make a Valentine” crafts program. Patrons can create 3 different card designs as well as holiday boxes and take them home for delivery later. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends by 8 p.m. Pre- registration is required and may be done by stopping in the library, calling 402-643-3318 or visiting www.sewardlibrary. Thank you The library would like to thank all of the individuals who donated materials in December for the special holiday events. The staff appreciates the stocking wish list materials that were provided too. Every item whether small or large makes a difference and helps keep your library a vibrant part of the community. Living in Two Countries Joanne and David Neeley have a unique life. They have an address in Seward and they have an address in Mexico. They have enjoyed two homes for about six years. How do they navigate living in two countries? Come to the library on Sunday, February 9 at 2 p.m. to hear their story. Have the changes in government policies affected their community south of the border? What are the challenges they face as well as the benefits of this situation? Spend an hour with the Neeleys and bring your questions. Refreshments will be served.

Adopt a Shelf Kicks Off on February 1Seward Memorial Library invites organizations, non-profits and groups to claim an area in the library and visit it weekly or monthly to clean it and keep it straightened. Adopting a shelf shows your support of this valuable institution in our community. The staff appreciates the donation of time, a valuable resource and will recognize all of the volunteers. Stop in and pick your favorite aisle. The staff looks forward to partnering with others to maintain our landmark facility.

Scrabble DayWord lovers are invited to join in a Scrabble Tournament on Saturday, February 29. The competition starts at 9:30 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m. There will be six 30 minute rounds. Participants must be 16 years or older to play. Using an average of each player’s three top game scores, winners will be chosen. First, second and third place cash prizes will be awarded at the end of the day for those participants who played a minimum of three games. There will be a one hour lunch break. Registration begins on February 10. Visit the library website to sign up.

“Homicide in Seward County, 1920-1947.”Dr. Jerry Pfabe, retired Concordia University professor, will share historical information which he has gathered from past Seward County records. On Sunday, March 8 he will focus on the homicides which took place during the 1920s. Come at 2 p.m. to learn about the circumstances that led to violence in our community. There will be time for questions as well as refreshments during the one-hour program.

New Addition to the Library’s Die Cut RoomSeward Memorial Library purchased a larger AccuCut machine for the die-cut room. This will allow patrons to use large dies including the new pinnovation dies. Patrons may transfer messages to a template which will cut out custom made cupcake wrappers with individual texts. There is also a die-cut for a Christmas tree card which can be customized with your personal message. Come in and discover how the new dies can be used on fabric, chipboard and poster board as well as paper.

The library will be open on Monday, February 17, 2020 President’s Day.

Federal Tax Forms at the LibrarySeward Memorial Library has received notice that there will be a limited number of federal tax forms available for the public for free. Most forms are available online to print at home or for 20 cents per page in the library.

Nebraska state forms are not sent to libraries and are only available at www.revenue.state.ne.us or by calling 1-800-742-7474. Forms and booklets are free, but any copies printed in the library are 20 cents per page. If citizens need the Internet to file, the library has computers for this use.
