INVITATION FOR APPLICATION In its efforts to promote research on efficient and balanced fertilization that is econo- mically, socially and environmentally sustainable, IFA grants the ‘Norman Borlaug Award’ to recognize the crucial role and contributions of research works that signi- ficantly improve the lives of farmers. For 2015, IFA is inviting individuals from developed countries and from internatio- nal research and development centers involved in crop nutrition research whose works have resulted in long-term impacts and advances on nutrient management/ stewardship to apply for the award. His/her work must show significant improve- ments in productivity, profitability, fertilizer use efficiency, environmental sustaina- bility, food quality and human health, and rural life in general. The recipient of the IFA Norman Borlaug Award will receive € 10,000 (ten thousand euros) and will be invited as a guest to the IFA Annual Conference to be held in May 2015 in Istanbul, Turkey. In its efforts to promote research on efficient and balanced fertilization that is econo-mically, socially and environmentally sustainable, IFA grants the ‘Norman Borlaug Award’ to recognize the crucial role and contributions of research works that signi-ficantly improve the lives of farmers.

For 2015, IFA is inviting individuals from developed countries and from internatio-nal research and development centers involved in crop nutrition research whose works have resulted in long-term impacts and advances on nutrient management/stewardship to apply for the award. ELIGIBILITY

The award is offered to individuals (not to organizations or companies) from developed countries and from international research and develop-ment centers for their research efforts. Qualifying work should reflect the level of senior crop or soil scientist.

NOMINATION PROCEDURE

Applications must be submitted in English and in electronic format by e-mail. The form can be downloaded at www.fertilizer.org/AwardBorlaug

Qualified individuals must be nominated by an IFA member. Applications must be submitted to an IFA member by 15 January 2015, and nomina-tions by members must be forwarded to the IFA Secretariat by 31 January 2015.

Only complete applications following the required format will be consi-dered by the IFA Secretariat. The duly completed application form should not exceed a total number of 2,500 words for the qualification state-ments. Applicants must provide an abstract of the six selected papers listed in their application form.

Additional documents and nomination letters from other organizations, lists of publications and any other material will not be considered by the selection panel.

Only complete entries following the conditions set above with the re-quired nomination letter from an IFA member in good standing are qua-lified and will be accepted.

JUDGING

An independent selection panel will evaluate and select the laureate on the basis of research quality, originality and practical application. Prefe-rence is given to research leading to improvements in nutrient manage-ment/stewardship practices resulting in significant advances in produc-tivity, profitability, fertilizer use efficiency, environmental sustainability, food quality and human health, and rural life in general.

The award recipient will be known during the second half of March 2015.
