It’s at times like this that anyone should be starting up their ownbusiness using the Internet as a marketing tool.

Starting a business in ‘hard times’ can only mean that your efforts tobring your business into profit will certainly improve once the economyitself improves and you’ll never look back.

It’s been proven that those who stop advertising, for example, during arecession always struggle or literally go out of business once therecession passes. However, those who keep advertising throughoutare those who profit up to four times the amount that they did beforethe bad times hit.

Obviously people still read advertisements, still need products and stillneed services and, if you’re the one supplying them (and they knowthis because you’ve kept the flag flying by your Internet marketing)then you’re the one they’re going to go to to purchase.

The Internet is a low cost, no cost way to market your offline businesstoo, so there’s no excuse to not get started right away. I’m running alocal business and a national one as well, plus I have several projectson the go via the Internet alone and they all do well regardless of allthe bad news the media like TV, radio and the press keep rammingdown our throats. I find people are saying ‘We’re cutting back’ whenthey simply don’t need to, it’s just that they’ve been frightened intodoing so because of the news headlines. People need to keep buyingthings and the good news is, they do. Find a hungry market, supplywhat they want and, bang!, you’re in business.

So you’ve built yourself a wonderful blog or website and you’ve submitted it todozens, hundreds or even thousands of directories in order to create backlinks toyour site.

It’s a known fact that Google, in particular, values backlinks to a site more than anything.A link from one site that leads to your site is a vote of confidence towards you andtherefore your site will rank higher than a site that hasn’t got any backlinks or, at least,fewer backlinks than you.

Why then, after submitting your site this many times, does your site not rank very highly?

The most probable reason is that Google has not indexed your pages fully, if at all, due tothe places that you submit to not being very strong contenders for being important inGoogle’s eyes.

OK, so nobody definitely knows what Google’s algorithm is that chooses the options ofwhether your site should rank or not but it’s after testing thousands of sites that peopleinvolved with Internet Marketing teaching come to realise what Google does an doesn'tlike.

Their findings are that if you gain a backlink from an ‘authority’ site, then that’s good andwill be a stronger vote towards your site being good quality, appropriate and worth visitingand, therefore, indexing for the millions/billions of people searching each day.

Linking to lesser sites, that’s those you can ‘ping’ to that aren’t well known or just exist onthe Internet and are the ones used by submission software on most occasions and is acomplete waste of time as they are ignored by the search engines in general and will neverget your site ranked in any position, let alone page one.

RSS feeds can be useful or manually choosing authority sites to gain your backlinks.However, this does take time, especially if you’re dealing with multiple blogs or websites.

There are indexing sites where you pay a monthly fee and, by all accounts, these are themost effective. As they submit to top quality sites that are known to make a difference,you can pretty well guarantee to have your pages indexed by Google once they’ve beencrawled and the information is safely in Google’s database.

Google will recheck for any updates and, hence, your site will start appearing higher in thesearch engine results pages after atime.

Finally, it’s best to test any servicethat you choose to use as even paid-for services may not be as effectiveas other paid for services … it’s amatter of checking and testing to findwhich one is best for your type ofwebsite niche.

Once you find some you like, start posting onto yourblog sites (make one if you haven’t got one on anyniche subject (free at www.blogger.com)), then linkyour blog to a product that will earn you commissionor, find information on the subject and make a reportup yourself to sell.The trends list gets updated every hour, so you knowyou’re getting subjects hot off the press.Number one on the list shows that it has a higherpercentage increase in the number of searchescompared to those lower in the listing.It even shows you a graph of the peaks the words aremaking. Hewlett Packard to exit computingand buy Autonomy

Hewlett Packard has confirmed plans to stopmaking PCs, tablets and phones, in order torefocus on software.

It has also emerged that the US company hasagreed to buy UK software firm Autonomy for£7.1bn ($11.7bn).

HP added that it was considering selling itspersonal systems group, which includes theworld's biggest PC-making business, and that itwill discontinue its webOS devices.

The webOS operating system is used in its tabletcomputers and smartphones.Refocus

The announcements mark a significant U-turn forthe company, which announced in a Marchstrategic review that it would integrate webOSinto all of its future hardware.

HP had launched its Pre smartphone as acompetitor to the iPhone and devices based onGoogle's Android operating system.

However, WebOS failed to gain traction withreviewers, operators and retailers.

The decision to ditch the Pre, as well as itsTouchPad tablet computers, comes despitepaying $1.2bn (£727m) last year to buy up thetechnology through its acquisition of Palm.

There have been long-running rumours that chiefexecutive Leo Apotheker, who recently joined fromGerman rival SAP, wanted to refocus the companyaway from its traditional hardware businesstowards its smaller, but much more profitable,software lines.

The transformation planned by Mr Apothekermirrors that of IBM, which dropped out of its

traditional hardware business over the pastdecade.

"HP is recognising what the world has recognised,which is hardware in terms of consumers is not ahuge growth business anymore," said MichaelYoshikami, chief executive of YCMNET Advisors.

"It's not where the money is. It's in keeping with thenew CEO's perspective that they want to be morein services and more business-oriented."

On the sale of its PC business, HP said it "willconsider a broad range of options that mayinclude, among others, a full or partial separation...from HP through a spin-off or other transaction".

Market rumours have previously named variousprivate equity firms as being keen to buy parts ofHP if a break-up of the company were to happen.

Google Buys Motorola Mobility For $12.5b

Google justannouncedthat it isacquiringMotorolaMobility.

The searchand online

advertising company is buying the company forapproximately $12.5 billion (or $40 per share), incash. The price represents a premium of 63percent to the closing price of Motorola Mobilityshares 19th Aug. Google had about $39 billion incash at last count.In a blog post, Google co-founder and CEO LarryPage writes that Google has acquired Motorola notonly because of its strength in Androidsmartphones and devices, but also for being a“market leader in the home devices and videosolutions business.”It’s also a move to build up the company’s patentportfolio, he adds, as it will “enable us to betterprotect Android from anti-competitive threats fromMicrosoft, Apple and other companies”.

I've been using Serif Movie Plus for editing my movies as it's easy touse and comes with a good instruction book, but it does have it'slimitations and is prone to freeze right when you're about to finishyour project and you, therefore, have to start over on whatever youwere working on before the program crash. Even after programupdates I still got problems so have been thinking about trying anew program for a while, now. Should I go for the brand new SerifMoviePlus X5 or the Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0?

It's all very well using free video editing programs but you can't expect them to perform like a retailproduct. I already have Camtasia for screen capture videos but needed something I could use for realHD movies.

It's true that you don't need the Sony Vegas MovieStudio HD Platinum 11.0 if you just want to makeshort 30 second promos for your clients or toproduce an intro to your sales letter but if youwant to take things a little further, then this couldwell be for you.

Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0 canproduce full length HD (or even 3D) moviescomplete with sound editing via the DVDArchitect Studio software included.

To think it would have cost you tens of thousandsof pounds for kit like this a few years ago and nowit's available for around £65.00 ($107.42 approx).

This version introduces a new, easier to use, Titles and Text editor with 24 animations. In fact,anything you'd like to do with your movie, special effect-wise, you can do with this latest offering fromSony.

The good thing for me was that although Studio HD Platinum 11.0 can do all these things, it's only ascomplicated as you want it to be. I was surprised that I was able to make my first short movie withinjust a few minutes without even taking one look at the instruction book or online help.

If you only want the basics, that's all you need to get involvedwith. If you need something more professional then you'll needto check out the help videos, online help and the Getting Startedmanual.

The latest version from Sony is great for beginners as it walksyou through each step and you can find out about any part ofthe user interface at any time, in detail.

I would say, even complete beginners can get something decentfrom this software pretty well straight away and, when you wantto get a little more 'pro', it'll take you there as well, with ease.

I purposely haven't gone into features and what it does as I feel that us 'Internet marketing' peoplewouldn't want to completely learn everything it does and want to learn everything there is, technically,to know about this product because we all know that video is something we should be using in ourmarketing arsenal and, if you can work with it without knowing anything about it, that's meaning it'sthe perfect product to us.

That may sound a little daft but since I managed to make avideo in just a few minutes just by playing around with theprogram and before reading instructions, I reckon anyonecan.

You can download and try the full version of Vegas MovieStudio HD Platinum 11.0 from the main web site for 30days before having to pay for it. This will prove, beyond alldoubt, if it's any use to you or not. It's certainly the RollsRoyce of video editing suites and you'll see why when youtry it.

If you’re new to Internet marketing you may not have heard of theWarrior Forum, it’s where anyone who’s interested in anything to dowith marketing on the Internet goes to ‘chat’ and research on thesubject.

Wouldn’t it be good if somebody came out with a product that actually showed you, step bystep, exactly how to get started with your very own WSO, set it up, write the sales letter,prepare the Warrior system and launch it to the masses?

The same ‘excuses’ for not going for it yet and the same type of posts stating that ‘thisguy’s products are the best … I don’t even read the sales letter, I just buy it’ and so on, it’scrazy on there but it’s making profits for the seller at all times as the price normally rises afterso many sales. This creates a frenzy of buyers who are worried that they’ll miss out if theydon’t get in quick.

I admire the sales letters, they are pretty well all gems and can teach beginners how to writecopy that sells just by studying each one.

Once a person purchases your product, they are on your subscriber list, of course, so you cancontinually keep in touch and build a relationship with them in order to sell more products tothem. It works. Up-sells, down-sells, cross-sells, they’re all totally do-able during the WSOprocess. It’s money, literally, pouring in for the seller, non-stop, for days, weeks or months onend for every product you put up on the system.

I’m not saying that every product put up for sale is a good one (though most seem to havetheir place in the Internet marketing arena) but the process is fascinating and, once you get itright, you’ll want to keep placing WSOs as often as you can. I see the top marketers placingnew offers on a regular basis so they must be gaining from it otherwise they simply wouldn’tbother. I do know of several UK marketers who are involved and know for a fact that it’scurrently one of the best ways to earn a living using the Internet as a marketing tool.

I must say how impressed I am with the latestversion of the Linux operating system.

For new users, it's recommended that the perfectalternative to Windows is the Ubuntu 11.04 Linuxsystem.

It's free and so are all the programs that you runon it.

It installs in around 8 minutes and is so fast atloading and never crashes, it's super impressive.

My only worry was that I wouldn't be able to havethe programs that I'm used to on Windows,working for me on Ubuntu Linux.

But Firefox runs perfectly on it, I have a screencapture program along with a video editor (likeCamtasia) and have a choice of over 3000 otherfree programs to install if I please.

There is a complete Office suite with it when youfirst install it (compatible with MS Office) and I'vealso just loaded up a Desktop publisher program.

Once I got Roboform password manager running,it really felt like home as I'm able to view emailsand all my fav sites just by clicking on thepassword link.

I've tried every version of Windows and also theApple Mac but for amazing ease of use andstability (and everything being free), I just can'timagine being without Ubuntu Linex OperatingSystem.

If anyone would like to try it, you can run it from aUSB stick before you decide to install it onto yourcomputer hard disk drive.

There is even a Windows install version whereyou need no technical know-how, you just clicksome buttons.

Over 75% of the world's servers (what all yourwebsites etc. are running on) are now on Linuxafter dropping Windows altogether.

If you don't like it, don't install it. You can thenstay with Windows.

I've installed Windows 7 on one hard drive andUbuntu Linux on another to make the changesmoother.

Of course, I'll still need Windows to run certainthings but for research purposes and the odd bit ofserious work, it'll be Linux from now on with me.

I used to know a guy in Internet marketing who worked with me and together we created some greatcontent. He was the one that knew about business, though, he could sell something to a hungrycrowd while I was busy creating information products. The problem was, the products were servicesprovided by him but simply weren't sustainable. He would look after someone for a while andgradually phase them out.

Now, several years later, he's earning tens of thousands of dollars a month while I'm earning little. Or,rather, he WAS earning all that money.

After ignoring me for all those years and treating his customers like banks to be broken into androbbed, he moved away from Internet marketing to a totally different niche. He announced hisretirement and disappeared after one last, high ticket product.

After a few months, he's back and I received an email from him. 'I'm Back' it read in the subjectheader. It was an auto-responder to everyone on his old list announcing he was back bigger andbadder than ever. But few responded. Just a few months is a long time in Internet marketing land.

I thought, you should be nice to people on the way up as you're sure as hell going to meet them on theway down. And he did. He's now trying to be nice to all those he trod all over on his way up but is nowfinding the oasis is dry.

I can't believe the number of people in my life who I've met that are like this. They are fine right upuntil they get a regular decent income, then they leave their true friends behind to join the new groupof Internet marketing gurus.

I've got my eye on about four of my old acquaintances who are currently doing very well but they'llsoon fall just like this guy did. How do I know? Well, those who stay approachable, friendly and niceto all their old colleagues, seem to stay on top but those who start ignoring people and trample all overthem to get to their ‘goal’ don't last the course. It may take years but they'll fall. They always do.

Even with my years of Internet experience, I can’t help be impressed with this, almost, cheap and cheerfulpackage that seems to deliver big time, week after week for such a low monthly outlay from the customer.

This site has tons of information about Internet marketing, especially about Private Label Rights (PLR) and how tore-brand and re-purpose products to make them your own and earn either 100% from it or huge commissions.

You can download, literally, gigabytes of software and books and still never seem to reach the end of the packageon offer. This is because it is added to on a daily and weekly basis.

It’s not rubbish, either. Many of the products that become available for around $19.00 per month have just beenon sale to the public elsewhere for much higher amounts but where you can pick them up here for nothing extraover and above your monthly membership fee.

I found myself purchasing products to review from other sites and then finding them available on Resell RightsWeekly a few days later for members to download and enjoy/sell on etc..

Most surprising of all is that you can join free for a while to try out the products and services on offer. It’s wellworth giving it a try where you then only pay for membership when you’re totally satisfied … which, I promise you,you will be, no doubt about that, it’s incredible.

The search facility is second to none and finds anything you want in a split second. I typed in Wordpress themes,for example and it came up with hundreds of them, many with websites I could use to sell them on to mycustomers.

Any Internet subject is covered in great detail with articles in their tens of thousands for you to adapt for your webprojects. But it’s the software that really impresses, absolutely gigabytes of the stuff … and good quality too,none of your usual crap here. I know that nearly all PLR sites contain software that can’t be sold elsewhere so it’sthrown into a membership site and cleared that way but with Resell Rights Weekly, this clearly isn’t the case. Youneed to see it to believe it, to be honest.

As if all this wasn’t enough, there’s an included messaging forum to interact with all those people alreadyenjoying their membership. The information and experience here is spot on for newbies and experiencedmarketers alike.
