Now, if you find yourself at that point today, then pray this psalm hard and know there are lots of us there for you, praying it with you! But if things are going well for you...If you are enjoying the warmth of the spring sunshine and listening to those joyful bird songs; If you are doing 'OK' and have enough to eat today and a place to stay tonight, and have some clothes to wear; If you are feeling alright, well maybe not great but pretty good, nothing to complain about...; if this is were you're at, Psalm 86 is a perfect prayer for you too. After all, praying it when we're feeling hurt and tired and broken is a kind of a 'no-brainer,' we all get that, but what about the other times? Praying this kind of thing when we feel pretty good, when things are going pretty well, when we're doing 'better than average,' well that puts this psalm in a very different light doesn't it? Praying this psalm during the weeks right after Easter Sunday can remind us that all of it is temporary, and more importantly, it is worthless without God. So, enjoy the nice weather and the magnolia blossoms, relax and warm yourself in the sunshine, and as you do, pray this psalm. Remembering that even if the rains come, even if the winds blow from a different direction; when we struggle and hurt, or when we are doing well—God loves us and is with us, and that is worth taking comfort in! Childhood Food Solutions-- April Mission of the Month

Childhood Food Solutions is Lakeview’s Mission for the Month for April. Thissmall local program provides food for hungry children in a few neighborhoods inCincinnati on weekends, holidays and summer breaks, when school breakfast andlunch is not an option. Public school food programs only account for 178 days a year, leaving 187 days whenmany children miss meals and go to bed hungry. The program was started by Tony Fairhead, ExecutiveDirector, in 2007 by focusing on a couple of schools in a single zip code, 45225. The program has expandedover the years and now serves over 4000 children in the Millvale and North Fairmount communities where thepoverty rate is over 50% and there is no local Soup Kitchen or similar program. Academic and healthmeasurements of children have shown improvement in the areas served.

The mission of the program: To end childhood hunger one grocery sack at a time.

Food sacks, light enough for a young child to carry and small enough to be “hidden” in a backpack aredistributed at strategic sites through the 45225 zip code. The sacks contain foods that require no refrigerationand limited preparation, have a long shelf-life, a high caloric value and a “gummy” factor to prevent rapidingestion, assuring the food supply will stretch as far as possible. The food sacks are filled with a standard listof foods, purchased from Aldi’s and Sam’s Club through donations and grants, with occasionalsupplementation of fresh fruit, when available.

To learn more about this mission please visit the Childhood Food Solutions website at http://childhoodfoodsolutions.org. There is also information on the AIM bulletin board in the lobby. Tony Fairheadwill be with us in worship on April 10 to give us updated information on the program. Please consider adonation for this worthy cause during the month of April. For questions you may contact Linda Overholt.

BIBLE QUIZ

Answer:C(SeeEsther2:7.)

HEALING AND COMMUNITYIn [the] healing texts, Jesus does not just curepeople’s diseases and cast out their demons and thensay, “Mission accomplished.” He’s always aftersomething more than that because the healing isnever fully accomplished until there is a restorationto community. People are healed of disease, andthen he tells the folks just standing around watchingto go get them something to eat. The widow’s son israised from the dead and then [Jesus] gives himback to his mother. And ... the man healed ofdemons is then told to stay with his people andspeak of what God has done. In the Jesus business, community is always a part of healing. Even thoughcommunity is never perfect.

BEHIND THE SCENESHave you ever noticed something that needs to be done at church and wondered if it isanyone’s responsibility? The chances are it is one of hundreds of “unassigned tasks.” TheLakeview UCC budget is small and stretched thin. We are heavily dependent on volunteers. There are many things that get done by those who quietly do them, most likely having neverbeen asked by anyone or acknowledged by anyone. If you are aware of people who do thingslike this, please let Lois know so we can make others aware in The Link.

Kevin Ott stepped in to change light bulbs and handle some other maintenancetasks at Lakeview in February while our usual volunteer Maintenance Team wasunavailable. (Chris Ennis was enjoying a vacation in the South, and Keith Voglerwas getting a new hip.) Thanks for your work, Kevin!

APPRECIATION

As of March 13, Lakeview has received $1010 for the Christian Education Coordinator Fund. The goal is$11,000 which needs to be attained before we can look for someone to fill this part-time position. Thankyou to all who have contributed so far and we hope more will consider this need in the future.Karen Baumann

GETTING TO KNOW YOU ….We continue introductions of those who chose to covenant in membershipwith LUCC on January 17, 2016.

Kandy Witte graduated from Oak Hills High School and majored inEnglish at the University of Cincinnati. She dreamed of moving to Californiaand securing a job as a writer for the entertainment industry. Those planschanged during her senior year when she met Bob and married him later thatyear. Instead of a career in writing, she spent many years working in socialservices for the Hamilton County Welfare Department, Hamilton CountyElderly Services and finally directing a small company contracted to the OhioDepartment of Mental Health.

Kandy retir ed eight years ago and since then has returned to her passionof writing. She established her own publishing company, Witt’s End Press, and has published two novels, M$ Fortune and Bingo You’re Dead. The latter is authored under the pen nameof Lou Fletcher. She is currently working on a new novel, another in her series entitled “Murder is MyGame,” drawing upon her experiences working with older adults and (this writer assumes) a great imaginationas well as a known sense of humor.

Kandy lived the major ity of her life in Hamilton County. She and Bob moved to Tacoma, WA when hewas obtaining his graduate degree in Occupational Therapy but returned to College Hill where they raisedtheir two children. After their children were grown they bought an eighteen acre farm near Oxford where theyhad a pond, with fish, but had little success with other livestock. After twenty-five years there they moved toVillage on the Green near Maineville in September, 2015.

Their daughter lives in Cincinnati, and their son lives near Chicago, with their only grandchild, eight year old,Noah. Kandy was an only child. Bob has two sisters who live in Greater Cincinnati.

Kandy was looking for a UCC after moving to Maineville and discovered Lakeview by dr iving by andseeing our sign .She grew up at St. Peter and St. Paul UCC in Western Hills where her mother taught SundaySchool for 40 years. Bob is a life-long Roman Catholic, and their children were officially raised in theCatholic church but attended some services and events with Kandy at St. Paul UCC in North College Hill.

Since coming to LUCC, Kandy has attended two book study groups and several Lunch and Learn sessions. She has attended Just for Lunch as well. She embraces our focus on mission and outreach and our ONA statusand is happy to have found LUCC!

Kandy and Bob enjoy international travel and are prepar ing for a tr ip to Chile, Argentina and Brazil inMay. They have traveled to the majority of the continents, including visits to China and Kenya. Each fall theymeet friends from Washington in Cancun.

Besides reading and study through classes at OLLI, Kandy enjoys playing Mahjong and exercising at theMason Community Center. She is certainly a great example of staying active in retirement!

Welcome to Lakeview, Kandy—and we are happy to be getting to know Bob as well!

Enjoying spring? Daffodils, crocus, green and moregreen, truly blue skies, warm air? My Mother, wholoved color, became blind in her 80's so I am extremelyaware of the beauty she was denied--her peach coloredIris, Buckeye trees, rambling bubbles in the brook, herfunny Boston Terriers at play, even the sweet faces ofher great grandchildren.

Since I communicate with prisoners, I'm also aware of the depravations of living in a concrete box for years--missing music, the moon, bird songs, gusts of wind, the glory of spring and riotous colors of autumn--evenhandshakes, hugs, friendly words, peaceful quiet, a place to sit! Many turn to poetry to express despair, hope, and needs.

WHAT'S A WINDOW WORTH by Nik .Z. and C. Jo

No windows in the prison dorm, only cubicles, noise and more noise. No easy chairs, no ease at all, only cots, and a box to cram your stuff in.

But down the hall, on the way to chow, there is a window, a narrow view.Oh, that walk down the hall! A sight to crane your neck for.

Glimpses of tree buds unfurling, exploding out to full leaf in a week, white blossoms, a hint of blue sky, a bit of a garden that needs tending.

You can almost see sunshine and shadows, rain, snow, fog, even a breeze!Glimpses to fall out a window for--to see it all fully--if only, if only---

WHY? by Frank Prieto

I don't know why the grass is green, I can't explain the miracle of birth. The more I strive to understand, the more I suspect

it probably isn't meant for me to unravel the mysteries.I'm not an educated man, but even I can see, and understand--

we must heal our world before we occupy ourselves with other spaces. Can you explain why our society is impoverished? Why we're wracked with war, terror and politics?

Each day finds racism, greed, injustices--yet we search the planets and the stars! If you know, please come forth.

If you have answers to these mysteries, explain them, tell us what we should do.This earth, my home and yours, is in desperate need of answers.

STRUGGLING WITH THEIR DECISION by Patricia W ernertI do appreciate and thank you and all who prayed and tried so hard for me, but--

at this point I almost believe hell is better than what I have endured the past 40 years.A sentence of "20 to Life" made me believe and hope--if I did everything in my power

to follow all the rules, and worked hard, I could prove I was worth a second chance.Dangling the fake "Parole Carrot" in front of my nose is diabolical, at best!

Ha! What a silly goose that makes me! Anything better in the next life?

Holy Humor Sunday

Although the Bible never refers to Jesus laughing, he clearlyhad a sense of humor — and needed one to deal with hiscritics and even his disciples. James Martin, S.J., author ofBetween Heaven and Mirth (HarperOne), writes, “If weaccept the idea of [Jesus] as a human being, we must accept all human attributes for him — laughing as wellas suffering.”

The ancient church marked the Sunday after Easter with humor and laughter to celebrate Jesus’ triumph overdeath. Today some congregations designate their post-Easter worship as Hilarity Sunday or Bright Sunday.Faith is serious business, but that doesn’t mean Christians must always be serious! Don't miss the Sundayafter Easter to experience Lakeview's Holy Humor Sunday!

Evangelism TipWe draw people to Christ not by loudly discrediting what they believe, by telling them howwrong they are and how right we are, but by showing them a light that is so lovely that theywant with all of their hearts to know the source of it.
