Music composition for this documentary, JB’s 8th collaboration with Dereck and Beverly Joubert, from Wildlife Films
July-August 2011 Absa National Choir Festival Music Director for the third year running.
May 2011 Wouter Kellerman’s “Two Voices” album
JB Produced the album that won Best Instrumental Album at the 17th South African Music Awards. Mixed in Los Angeles with S. Husky Hoskulds, Grammy Award-winning engineer.
October 2010 “The Last Lions” feature film Co-composes the score for “The Last Lions” a National Geographic feature film, with Hollywood composer Alex Wurman (March of the Penguins, The Switch, Temple Grandin). In September 2011 the score for the film wins “Best Music” at the World Wildlife Film Festival at Jackson Hole, Wyoming, USA
July 2010 Absa National Choir Festival Music Director and Composer of the prescribed song for the 2010 Festival. Embarked on trips around South Africa, working with regional choirs participating in the Festival
July 2010 FIFA World Cup 2010 Together with Victor Masondo, Sibongile Khumalo & Alexis Faku, JB produced all music for the World Cup Closing Ceremony.
February 2010 Mnet’s Carte Blanche JB revised and produced all music for three Carte Blanche shows - Carte Blanche Domestic, Carte Blanche Medical and Carte Blanche Consumer on M-Net.
2006-2010 Strictly Come Dancing TV series on SABC
Music Director for five successful seasons
October 2009 FIFA World Cup Final Draw Composed and produced all music for the Final Draw, held on December 4th 2009 in Cape Town & live on TV to a worldwide audience of 2,5 billion.
May 2009 Absa National Choir Festival Music Director and Composer of the prescribed song for the festival. JB also conducted the mass choir at their gala event.
2009 “Monna Wa Mmino: The Mike Masote Story”, feature film & 4-part TV series
Composed the score for the feature based on the life story of Mike Masote, creator of the Soweto String Quartet
2009 “Big Cat Odyssey”, one hour show

“Eye of the Leopard”, won Best Nature Film at the Jules Verne Film Festival in Paris, Best Film at Jackson Hole, and an Emmy Award for Best Science and Nature program in 2007

Wrote and composed the score for the show with 50/50.

2005 Watershed, SA Pop/Rock band As a freelance producer, JB produced Watershed’s 2005 album “Mosaic” which went platinum shortly after release, & won “Best Pop Album” at the 2007 SAMA Awards.
2005 “Young Animals at Play”, a one hour show
Wrote and composed the score for the show with Peartree Films, Wildlife Filmmakers.
2005 “Valley of the Golden Baboon”, one hour show

Wrote and composed the score for the show with Aquavision, Wildlife Filmmakers.
2004 “The Story of an African Farm”, a feature film starring Richard E Grant & Armin Mueller-Stahl

“Ultimate Enemies” premiered in the USA and had the highest viewership ever recorded on the National Geographic Channel.

2001 - current Formed new independent label “Instinct Africaine” with partner Victor Masondo
Instinct Africaine signings & productions include: Freshlyground, Thembi Mtshali, Ntombethongo, PJ Powers, Carlo Mombelli, Wambali, Tony Cox & Steve Newman
Freshlyground’s debut album “Nomvula” is multi-platinum, a SAMA award-winner. In 2007 they became the 1st SA artistes to win an MTV Europe Award. Their 2007 release, “Ma’cheri” sold multi-platinum & won four SAMA awards in 2008, including “Album of the Year”

Wambali:
“Zani Muwone”, a 2002 SAMA winner for Best Contemporary African Album and “Moto” in 2007.
JB, Sibusiso Masondo and Zwai Bala produced “Heartlines”, the soundtrack to the TV series. This was a multi-artiste collaboration featuring Loyiso, Sibongile Khumalo, Gloria Bosman, Jabu Hlongwane.

1999 “The Millennium Chorus”, a worldwide release
Recorded & co-produced “Amazing Grace” with Victor Masondo for this release. Recorded for Harmony Records, a division of Epic Records, Based in NYC.
1999 “Journey of The Giant”, one hour show for the Discovery Channel
Wrote and composed the score for this show with Aquavision, Wildlife Filmmakers.
1998 “Fit For The Wild”, 13 part series broadcast on Animal Planet

Wrote, Composed, and produced music for various commercials alongside many South African ad agencies and directors.
1983 – 1988 Individual artists – Karl Kikillus, Neil Cloud, Bobby Angel, Tommy Dell, Beverley Van Zyl, amongst others
JB produced for all these artists as a freelance record producer
1982-1989 Various SABC Television musicals including “Portrait of JB Arthur”, & “Portrait of Mynie Grove”
Music Director for many of the high profile SABC television musicals, of which “Portrait of Mynie Grove” won an Artes Award.
1982 The album “Iets Anders” by Mynie Grove
This was JB’s first record production, for well-known artist Mynie Grove, which was groundbreaking in that it was the first Afrikaans rock album to be produced in South Africa at that time.
