PART TWO

Read the conversation and then answer the questions that follow. Mark your answers on your answer sheet.

There’s a school trip to Stratford-upon-Avon next term, Mum. Can I go?

Didn’t you go to Stratford-upon-Avon with the school last year?

No, we went on a history trip to Warwick Castle with Mrs Taylor. I bought you a plate with a picture of the castle on it. Do you remember?

Oh yes, I remember! How much does the trip to Stratford-upon-Avon cost?

My English teacher, Miss Peters, said it will cost £30 each, but that includes £3 for the school bus, a trip on the river, a visit to a museum and a theatre ticket.

That’s quite cheap. Your brother’s school trip to France is going to cost £300! Do you know which play you will see at the theatre?

Yes, we’re going to see Romeo and Juliet. It’s on the GCSE English Literature syllabus, so we’ll study it next year. That’s why we’re going to Stratford-upon-Avon.

Lucky you. When I was at school, the Shakespeare play that we had to study was Julius Caesar. I thought it was so boring! I think Macbeth was his best play. I prefer it to Romeo and Juliet.

I know nothing about Julius Caesar but I think Macbeth is horrible! Too many murders! Romeo and Juliet is much better, but very sad at the end. I saw the film with Leonardo DiCaprio playing Romeo when I was staying at Laura’s house last week.

He was so good in Titanic, which was on TV last night – again! Is Laura going on the Stratford-upon-Avon trip?

Yes, I think everyone in the class is going. So can I go please?

Of course you can. I’ll pay for the trip but if you want extra spending money you have to earn it. You can start by cleaning the car.

Okay, Mum. Thanks. I’ll clean the car after school tomorrow.

11 Where did Saskia go with the school last year?

A Stratford-upon-Avon B Warwick Castle C France

12 What is the price of the Stratford-upon-Avon trip?

13 Which Shakespeare play does Mum prefer?

14 Which of the following statements about Saskia is NOT TRUE?

A She dislikes Macbeth B She thinks Romeo and Juliet is sad C Her favourite Shakespeare play is Julius Caesar
