US Sherpa International is a Nepal
and Vermont-based, family-owned
business founded by Himalayan native,
Ongyel Sherpa. Ongyel’s journey
to the USA began after meeting Dr.
Geoff Tabin (co-founder of Himalayan
Cataract Project and Everest Climber)
in 1998. Our mission at US Sherpa is
to become a top Nepalese business
with healthy business expansion
through the promotion of Nepalese
handcrafts. The handcrafts that we
sell are the livelihood of the Nepalese
people. In order to assure quality
and commitment to our customers, as
well as our friends in Nepal, we make
frequent trips to Nepal to understand
the needs and stories of the individual
businesses from which we carefully
select our products before returning to
the United States. All of our handcrafts
are made in Nepal and produced
by artisans who receive fair wages
and benefits. All of us at US Sherpa
International are proud of what we
have accomplished and we hope that
you will embark upon this wonderful
and rewarding journey with us to
promote future growth through this
unique Nepal-Vermont connection.

S Our prayer flags are one of our most
popular items. They are made in Nepal
in the pure home of Tibetan Buddhism
where Buddha was born. Locals and
natives from the Himalayas call these
flags Lung-ta, meaning Wind Horse.
The flags are rectangular in shape and
hung horizontally. There are 5 colors:
red, blue, white, yellow and green.
Each set has one color. Blue symbolizes
sky and space, white symbolizes
air and wind, red symbolizes fire,
green symbolizes water, and yellow
symbolizes earth. Tibetan Prayer
Flags are believed to bring good karma.
Traditionally, prayer flags are used to
promote peace, compassion, strength,
and wisdom. They are also thought
to bring benefit to all beings. The best
time to put up new prayer flags are in
the mornings on sunny, windy days.

S Our beautiful Sherpa Journal /
Lokta Paper note books are entirely
handcrafted in a traditional manner.
The papers are made from the Daphne
plant, which grows in the foothills
of the Himalayan Mountains at an
elevation of 2000 to 3500 meters. Lokta
plants are self-regenerating and as long
as the plant is cut 8 inches from the
ground, it will re-grow within 6 years
and can be cut again. Lokta paper is
abundant in its native land of Nepal,
and many farmers are able to make a
living from making and selling lokta
paper. Lokta paper is also naturally
resistant to insects and worms. The
paper is prized for its rough, attractive
texture, its durability and each of our
journals comes in beautiful designs and
vibrant colors.
Our hemp products are 100% eco
friendly, natural and free from ani-
mal leather. The durable fiber hemp
wallets and passport bags are directly
made from hemp plants which has
been a great source of fiber and paper
for many generations for the Himala-
yan people. In the mountains of Ne-
pal, hemp has been used for centuries
because if it’s strength and durability.
