PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Kalori /2

Hi everyone, Education Week Welcome to Education Week 2019. We have had a great start to the term and are keen to show you what students have been learning about at school. Please join us for our Education Week and Book Week activities throughout this week to celebrate all that is great about Henty Public School. A huge thanks to all staff who give their best every day for your children. I am so very proud of the hard working team that we have. This is evidenced in the very positive growth that we are seeing in all classrooms. Please take this week as an opportunity to thank staff for their tireless dedication to your child’s education. Relieving Responsibilities This week, I begin my short relieving role as Director of Griffith Schools. Emma Quinn will relieve in my position as Principal whilst Claire Ross will relieve in her position as Assistant Principal. Mary Liston will take 2 Green. I want to thank them in advance as I know they will do a great job in my absence. I am looking forward to learning lots about effective practices across the Riverina and sharing them with staff and parents of our community. Farewell to Janette Hahn It has been wonderful to have Janette back in the school as School Administrative Manager this term however her skills are much in demand! She will be leaving us again soon to join the Schools Finance Team at the Wagga Education Office until the end of Term 1, 2020. We wish her all the best and know that she will return with amazing knowledge that she will be able to share across our network. Good luck, Janette. Tania will take over as Relieving School Administrative Manager and Peta will be back joining us as School Administrative Officer. Tell Them From Me The Tell Them from Me survey window is open again. This is your opportunity to let us know how we are going. Parents can reflect upon how well the school is doing supporting your child, keep you informed and creating a positive learning environment. We will place a link on our Facebook page and in the Seesaw app for you to follow. Please help us out by setting aside 5 minutes to complete the survey! Celebrating Attendance Congratulations to 2 Green who had the best attendance last week.

5/6 PINK CLASS NEWS

A great start to the term so far, well done 5/6! We have had good attendance and when people have been away they have asked for work to catch up on, which is really impressive. As we get closer to High School its important all students are trying their best, taking responsibility for their own learning and becoming more independent. I have been impressed with the students thrive to challenge themselves during learning tasks and thinking outside the box!Yesterday we read through our script for GALA and students have gone home to think about what role they would like to play. Some parts have small speaking roles and others more. We are hoping there is a role for everyone to suit their needs and confidence. We will also begin our dance practice this week and begin making some props! It’s very exciting for everyone! Year 5 students in my class will only be performing in the class dance but will have helping roles throughout the term as we prep for the big night.Students have also been busy writing a story book to present to students in Kinder to Year 2. We are up to our final editing stage and getting ready to publish with pictures! Keep an eye on SeeSaw to see what your child has written about! We have also been busy using our technology skills. This term we decided to use them in a different way and create some Aboriginal art pieces on the computer! We are very excited to start using and exploring with some of the new technology we have for this semester too. Students in 5/6 had a meeting last week about the 5/6 excursion and expectations. Some students are yet to decide if they are coming and or still to make a payment. Please discuss this with your child and talk to the front office about a payment plan. We also talked about hanging around the classroom during play times. The classrooms are an out of bounds area during these times and students should only be putting their bags away and going off to play. We have had cases of things beginning to go missing and all students have been warned, if they continue to hang around they will be missing out on play and potentially getting a Major!Last week was the best this year with students handing in their home learning tasks, congratulations. It is important to read each week outside of school and practice spelling and timetables. Well done to all those students that hand in their home learning and at a high quality each week.Keep up the great effort 5/6 and please don’t hesitate to talk to me if you have any concerns
