‘Kriti’, the monthly e-magazine of Amrita School of Engineering,
Bengaluru, has completed two years since its first issue, which was published in July
2009. This e-magazine was started with the aim of collecting news from all the
departments and placing it before the faculty & staff members to help them know the
activities that are happening in the other departments. This has immensely helped
faculty and staff members not only to know the activities that have happened in other
departments, but also to prepare various reports pertaining to the activities of the
entire school, as the complete information is available in one place.
Many constructive suggestions have been received from various quarters
to make ‘Kriti’- a more informative magazine and few of them have been incorporated.
Recently, there was one suggestion to include the ‘abstracts’ of international journal
papers published by our faculty. This suggestion has been well received and a decision
taken to include the ‘abstracts’ of technical papers from this issue onwards.
This e-magazine is also read by administrators and faculty members of
other campuses and are highly appreciative of this concept. On many occasions they
have also appreciated the news items reported in the e-magazine.
The Editorial Team of ‘Kriti’ thanks everyone for their help and support
extended for the last two years and looks forward to receiving suggestions and
cooperation from one and all in making this a truly top class e-magazine.

The college celebrated Teachers’ Day on 14th September, 2011. The
ceremony was unique in itself as for the first time the teachers took the main
stage.
The event began with an invocation by a group of teachers. After an
introduction to Teachers’ Day by Ms. Sarada Jayan from the Department of
Mathematics, an array of cultural programmes began. There were performances
by the faculty members of all the departments.
Some of the highlights of the day were a melodious solo song by
Dr. Manjula Nair; a soul-stirring performance of Rabindra Nritya by Ms. Paromita
Ganguly; ‘Thiruvathirakali’, a traditional dance form of Kerala, presented by faculty
of Department of EEE; and a foot tapping group dance by Mr. Veeresh Kumar,
Mr. Shashi Kumar and Mr. Pramod of Department of ME.
With huge applause from the audience which comprised of both
students and teachers, the Teachers’ Day celebration was a big success, and more
importantly, it provided the teachers with an opportunity to stage their artistic
talents.

students for the humble gesture of ‘Giving’.
In the true spirit of the event, a lunch was hosted for the workers in
housekeeping, transport & gardening; and blankets were distributed to all of
them.
The money for this was raised through contributions made by the
faculty and students. The Secretaries and the Student Volunteers of the social

Chip Multiprocessors with flexible configuration capability and with reduced latency isimplemented in FPGA with reduced area utilization. Globally Asynchronous LocallySynchronous (GALS) design style helps to reduce the power consumption and improve thenumber of logic realization by having multiple ports for the processor core. Low latency isachieved through asymmetrically buffered static routing mechanism that allocates larger bufferfor the processing core and smaller buffer for the output ports of the processor in theimplemented chip multiprocessor. Compared to the traditional dynamically routedarchitecture, it is occupying less area and maintained the flexibility in routing by assigningdouble link between nearest neighbor processor pairs. Latency and area comparison is donewith the design and implementation of nine processors in a 2-D mesh arrangement withdifferent architectures.
The main objective of this paper is to achieve a feedback enabled multi output boost converter(MOBC) by combining power electronics and process control concepts. A multi output boostconverter produces multiple outputs from a single input. It provides two or more outputvoltages from a single input voltage. The implementation of feedback enabled MOBCcomprises of basic MOBC unit, two comparators and a PI Controller. The PI (Proportional-Integral) controller here as such controls MOBC output based on its error input obtained as aresult of comparison of MOBC output and set point. The use of electronic PI controllercontributes to better stability of output and acts as a corrective mechanism to the MOBC.

Particulate reinforced Al-MMCs exhibits better mechanical properties and improved wearresistance over other conventional alloys. In the present paper, the experimental results of themechanical and tribological properties of Al6061–SiC composites are presented. Thecomposites of Al6061 containing 2–6 wt% SiC were prepared using liquid metallurgy route. Theexperimental results showed that the density of the composites increase with increased SiCcontent and agrees with the values obtained through the rule of mixtures. The hardness andultimate tensile strength of Al6061–SiC composites were found to increase with increased SiCcontent in the matrix at the cost of reduced ductility. The wear properties of the compositescontaining SiC were superior to that `of the matrix material.
