INTRODUCTION

The Language Center offers language classes through Nassau Community College’s Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning Department. We teach English Language Skills, Foreign Languages, and American Sign Language. The Language Center serves the needs of the community and is geared toward students who want to strengthen their overall language proficiency.

Courses are taught on weekday mornings, afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays. Three 8-week sessions are held each year in the Fall, Spring, and Summer, and a 6-week session is given in the Winter. In addition, the Center’s state-of-the-art computer lab is available to all students enrolled in English and Foreign Language classes at no additional cost. This provides each student with the opportunity to practice the skills they learn in class.

The English core classes, levels 1 through 6, focus on the simultaneous development of all English language skills including writing, listening, speaking, reading, and grammar. The session’s elective classes include Conversation Skills, Grammar, Pronunciation Skills, and TOEFL Preparation. We also have Introduction to the English Language for beginning English language learners.

The Language Center is devoted to giving students the necessary tools for successful language acquisition. Call us at 516-572-7062 to learn more about the classes we offer and to register for the upcoming semester.
