2012 Summer Camp Guide
Citation preview
WELCOMEDear Parent,
We believe all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That’s why, through the Y, millions of youth today are cultivating the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement.
Our camps carry that belief throughout the summer.
From swimming to craft projects and outdoor education, Y summer day camps offer campers a day full of “typical” camping activities that include songs, games, and plenty of outdoor fun and adventure. Campers have the chance to build self-confidence, discover new skills, develop a respect for the outdoors and make new friends. Best of all, you can be assured that while your kids are exploring new ways to have fun, they are being well cared for in a friendly, safe environment. Days are spent primarily outdoors, so campers should dress to get messy!
Our summer day camps are American Camp Association accredited, which means we maintain the highest standards of program quality. All counselors are certified in first aid, CPR and AED.
We offer two summer camp experiences. One is for children in grades K-4 while the other is for those in grades 5-8. The younger group will have fun in a safe environment in which they are active, learning, laughing and made to feel special. The focus for the older group is community awareness and career exploration through service projects, leadership initiatives and social development.
Space is limited, so we encourage you to register your children early. Members of the Y receive discounted rates.
Our summer day camps, like all Lake County Family YMCA programs, are designed to encourage the four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. These are shared beliefs and essential principles that guide our behavior, our interactions with each other, our programs and our decision-making:
CARING – Show a sincere concern for others.
HONESTY – Be truthful in what you say and do.
RESPECT – Follow the Golden Rule.
RESPONSIBILITY – Be accountable for your promises and actions.
Please feel free to contact either one of us for more information. Angela Tossman will lead the programs at the Central Lake Y while Phil Tensley will supervise the programs at the Northern Lake Y. We’re really looking forward to meeting you and having the pleasure of sharing our summer with your children!
