If your child is absent from school, for any reason, please let our school office know using one of the following
options: Phone: 385 4163 / option 3 text 027 422 8032 email: [email protected]
Or notify us via our website: http://www.banksave.school.nz/absences.html or via our Flexibuzz app:

If your child arrives at school after 9:00 am they must check in at the office. This saves a lot of phone calls for
unexplained absences in order to ensure the safety of all our children
Dear Parents and Whānau
Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou – a warm welcome to
you all.
We welcome Annabel and Jaden and their families to
our Banks Avenue School community. They are both
in ‘The Nest’ (Room 8).
Term 2 races along; it is daunting to think we have two
and a half weeks left until the next school holiday.
This Friday the PTA have again organised Hells Pizza
as a fundraiser. Thanks to those parents who have
supported the PTA and ordered pizzas for their
children.
On Friday I am having lunch with a group of children
who have earned double wristbands. I will buy them a
pizza each and we can have a communal lunch.
At assembly last week I spoke to our tamariki about
the idea of PICK UP 5. Let’s have a concerted effort
over the next couple of weeks to pick up five pieces of
rubbish a day; this can be from school, at home or out
in the community. The intent of PICK UP 5 is to get
everybody doing something to make a difference to our
environment. Maybe mums and dads could join in
PICK UP 5 as well!

Master Plan Presentation We are looking forward to tonight’s meeting where
OPUS will present to our staff, whānau and
community members the master plan for our new
school.
We are really pleased and inspired with the ideas and
plans we have seen so far so we are looking forward to
this next major milestone; we are hoping you will join
us as we unveil our Masterplan.
Staff Farewells Both Helen Denny and Jenny Dow retire from their
respective careers at Banks Avenue School at the end
of this term. There will be a gift for each of them and
we would like to give our community the opportunity
to make a contribution to that gift, if you would like to.
Please put in an envelope, clearly marked for either
Helen or Jenny and give to Colleen at the office.
Closing day for contributions is Friday 22 June.

on Thursday 28 June at 7:00pm in the

our school office.

Teacher Paid Union Meetings NZEI are our education union and they have called for a
paid union meeting on Tuesday 26 June. As most
teachers are union members they will be attending this
meeting in the afternoon which means we will have
very limited staff left at school, potentially myself and
three learning assistants, therefore we ask that you pick
your children up from school at lunchtime, 12:10 pm.
.
We are so proud of Andy because he always displays
our HEART values and gives his best effort in his
learning.
Ka pai Andy.

Help Needed Team Totara and Team Kahikatea need some parent
helpers for their swimming programme in Term 3 from

really appreciated.

with teachers to discuss children and their learning.
These meetings are held over
two days. Information is
coming home with the
newsletter today which will
give details on how to book
appointment times. On the
two days we have learning
conversations school will close for instruction at
12:30pm.
Day 1: Tuesday 31 July - school shuts at 12:30.
Day 2: Thursday 2 August - school shuts at 12:30.

What Makes a Good Friend? Children at Banks Avenue School were given this
prompt to write about:
Think about friendship. Write to explain to your reader
what being a good friend means.
This is an explanation from Joel P who is a Year 3
Kea.
What Makes A Good Friend? Dear reader, a good friend is made by helping each
other, don’t fight and play often. If you are a friend
with someone you could have play dates, make clubs
(like me and Hazel) and loads of different things.
Remember you also have to know their name and if
they’re often serious, funny and other expressions. It is
good to have loads of friends so you don’t get lonely.
You can introduce friends to other friends so there’s
like a spider web connecting everyone up. If you are
lonely you will know you might have been making bad
decisions. You will get angrier and angrier until you
mess everything up. So follow my advice to make
friends. You won’t feel lonely. You might have the most
friends in the world. Let happiness and friends rule!
Not sadness and loneliness. You wouldn’t want that. So
follow my advice and have over 10 friends, 50 friends
or even 100 friends. That would be great. Don’t be the
lonely guy, be the happy guy. Say, “Can someone be
my friend”. So remember a good friend does not make
bad decisions, does not fight and not play often with
you. You could make clubs, makes games and loads of
things. Make no loneliness in the whole world. There is
this song that has a little bit that goes like this, “Put a
little bit of love in your heart, then the world (echo)
will be a better place”. So make friends! Yeah!
