History

An LPR which is familiarly known as ANPR was bought into this world at late 20th century (1976) by

United Kingdom by the scientific development branch of the city police. But this invention had enjoyed

the silence as far as the software is not revolutionized our way to deal with hardware. Till the early

1990s it’s not even attracted the news makers and the first incident this technology was implemented

was to detect a car that was stolen and the first case file that mentioned LPR was reported in 2005

which helped in solving a murder case in the City of Bradford. The security on the whole world was

alerted with this breakthrough invention which was leaded to another dimension in crime solving and

keeping a check to the threats.

Explain me about LPR Systems! LPR systems expand to License Plate Recognition systems or Automatic number plate recognition is a

tool that uses a code to recognize the characters that are written on the registration plates of your

vehicles. It is the reason why traffic monitoring wings urges the motorists to have their number plate

clean and clear, because if it involves too much data or turns out to be more artistic as the cameras will

not be able to read the number written on it.

LPR systems will use the toll cameras or surveillance TVs that are fixed on roads and public areas to take

note of your vehicle numbers and later store the captures in the image formats. The technology of

Infrared rays will enable continuous day and night shooting.

There is no rule that they reads accurate data and will display realistic information; it depends upon the

vehicle speed that is being passed by or even the weather conditions that may not help.

The way the LPR Works LPR solutions use the help of a Computer software that has prescribed steps to perform the tasks

orderly which are otherwise can be termed as algorithms. Majorly there are two types of systems that

consists a multi-camera setup in which a color camera and an Infrared camera divides the tasks, and the

single unit camera setup only has an IR camera. Mostly the first LPR solution is helpful for the security

cases as it captures the vehicles to differentiate them among the traffic. Along with their License plate

numbers, the official can easily recognize the vehicle which he should track to. On the other end an IR

camera only captures number plate which is widely functional in cases like toll gates and other pay

collecting checkpoints.

LPR Systems and its types

LPR systems are divided into three types, based upon their functionality and installment.

Mobile LPR solutions: These are

generally mounted on surveillance

vehicles that monitor the road traffic,

so that the personnel who is chosen

for the security check will monitor the

images of the captured plates on the

go. But these systems don’t prove to

be effective in case of low density

traffic.

Fixed LPR systems: These systems are

mounted to a particular location

which has their monitoring systems

inside an office. These systems are the

toughest to install among the others

and costly to maintain, as the power

supply to them have to be continuous

for regular data streaming.

Uses The common implementation of an LPR system is to find lost vehicles; however, LPR solutions can also

be used in many other uses. For example, LPR can also be used in Crime investigation that can track the

vehicles by using the time their plates has been captured and the locations they left out recently. These

types of results lead to solving of robbery and abducted cases.

Portable LPR systems: as the

name suggests these systems can be

fixed to a location and can be

transferred to another location. With

the ease of use , mostly security and

intelligence agencies will use these

LPR systems to monitor the

surroundings around the area under

observation.
