A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2:1-11)

When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came fromthe sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appearedto them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with theHoly Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. Now there weredevout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem. At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language. They were astounded, andin amazement they asked, “Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hearthem in his native language? We are Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea andCappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya near Cyrene, as well astravelers from Rome, both Jews and converts to Judaism, Cretans and Arabs, yet we hear them speaking in ourown tongues of the mighty acts of God.”

Lector: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

Gloria

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adoreyou, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King. O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of theworld, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the righthand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with theHoly Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

A Reading from the First Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians (1 Cor 12: 3B-7, 12-13)

Brothers and sisters: No one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. There are different kinds ofspiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are differentworkings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. To each individual the manifestation of theSpirit is given for some benefit. As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, thoughmany, are one body, so also Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews orGreeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit.

Lector: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

May 23, 2021Pentecost Sunday

The Responsorial: Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth. (Ps 104:1, 24, 29-30, 31, 34)

Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;

through Him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation He came down from heaven, and by the

Holy Spirit was Incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became Man.

For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate, He suffered death and was buried, and rose again

on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand

of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

Who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness

of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.

Amen.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to John (Jn 20: 19-23)

People: Glory to you, O Lord. On the evening of that first day of the week,

when the doors were locked, where the disciples were,

for fear of the Jews,

Jesus came and stood in their midst

and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side.

The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.

Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you.

As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”

And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,

“Receive the Holy Spirit.

Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them,

and whose sins you retain are retained.”

Priest: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.

NOTICE:Starting on May 24, 2021, all Daily Masses

A Letter from Bishop Whalen...

14th May, 2021

The Reverend Richard A. La MorteTemporary Administrator - Church of St. PeterSix Father Cody PlazaPoughkeepsie, New York 12601

Dear Father La Morte:

Thank you for assuming responsibility for the administration of St. Peter Parish during the emergency absence ofFather Patrick Curley. Cardinal Dolan is grateful for your pastoral leadership, as well as the dedication of the friarsfrom Mount Alvernia, along with continued efforts of the parish staff and volunteers.

In light of the realities we face both in the parish and throughout the Archdiocese of New York, and in consultationwith the archdiocesan curia and those involved in the local facilitation and supervision of parish life, I write todirect the following:

• The number of Masses, needs to be reduced to reflect the realities of the number of available priests and Massattendance.

• The parish has an inordinate number of baptisms and weddings for non-parishioners. Families requestingmarriages and baptisms should be re-directed to celebrate these sacraments in their proper parishes. Permission ofthe proper pastor must be obtained for the celebration of these sacraments outside of the proper parish of the family.

• Cooperation with the parishes in the cluster and deanery will enable all our parishes to grow while being mindfulof the practical realities of a shortage of clergy, many of whom are aging yet still gracious enough to be willing toserve as they are able. We cannot, however, burden these priests to the detriment of their health.

• The unwarranted amount of sacramental celebrations is a burden to the financial health of the parish. Theadjustment of sacramental celebrations will benefit the practical concerns of the parish, in addition to the physicalhealth and well-being of available clergy.

With my gratitude for your remarkable dedication and the assurance of my prayers,

Fraternally,Most Reverend Edmund J. WhalenVicar for Clergy14th May, 2021
