Dear Parishioners, In today’s Gospel parable, the master is away at a wedding feast. In Jesus’ telling of this story, he focus-es on those who await the master’s return. They have been given instructions and are expected to carry them out. The servants do not know when the master will return. They wait and make preparations [and] act in accord with his will. And they are ready. If we put ourselves in the place of the servants with Jesus as

the master, here we will find the Good News of the Gospel. For being ready for Jesus’ second coming is less about any actual time and place, and more about what we choose to do while we wait. We, too, have been given instructions and commandments, and there is no time to waste in preparing and participating in God’s kingdom. Through the grace of baptism we have been grafted into Christ, giving us, as Wisdom says of our ancestors, sure knowledge of the oaths in which [we] put [our] faith. This is the faith which is the realization of what is hoped for: redemption in Jesus Christ. It is this faith that gives us the de-sire, as it gave Abraham, to obey God’s call, and the courage to journey wherever God has prepared for us to go. At the end of the Lord’s Prayer during Mass, the priest prays in part, “Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil … that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin … as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.” This prayer, “developing the last petition of the Lord’s Prayer itself, asks for deliverance from the pow-er of evil for the whole community of the faithful” (GIRM 81). So, with prayer and action, we prepare ourselves and one another for the return of our master. We do whatever it means, individually, for each one of us to sell [our] belongings and give alms; to gird [our] loins and light [our] lamps; to defend our house from thieves. Let us know God’s will and follow it soberly and attentively. Let us do these things, by God’s grace. And we shall rejoice when we once again see the Son of Man.

Esperan, preparan [y] actúan de acuerdo con su voluntad y están listos. Si nos ponemos en el lugar de los criados con Jesús como el amo y señor, (entonces ahí) aquí, encontraremos la Buena Nue-va del Evangelio. Estar listo para la segunda venida de Jesús tie-ne que ver menos con el tiempo y lugar actua-les, y más con lo que elegimos hacer mientras esperamos. A nosotros también se nos han dado instrucciones y mandamientos, y no hay tiempo que perder para prepararnos y participar en el reino de Dios. Por medio de la gracia del bautismo hemos sido injertados en Cristo, dándonos, como dice la Sabiduría de nuestros antepasados, conocimiento cierto de las promesas en las que [ponemos] [nuestra] fe. Esta fe es la forma de poseer, ya des-de ahora, lo que se espera: la redención en Jesu-cristo. Es esta fe la que nos da el deseo, como se lo dio a Abraham, de obedecer el llamado de Dios, y el valor de ir a donde sea que Dios haya preparado para que nosotros vayamos. Al final de la oración del Padre Nuestro durante la misa, el sacerdote reza en parte: "Líbranos de to-dos los males, Señor... para que, ayudados de tu misericordia, vivamos siempre libres de pecado... mientras esperamos la gloriosa venida de nuestro Salvador Jesucristo. Esta oración, " desarrolla la última petición de la Oración del Señor, pide con ardor, para toda la comunidad de los fieles, la libe-ración del poder del mal."(IGMR 81). Entonces, con la oración y la acción, nos prepara-mos unos a otros para el regreso de nuestro amo y señor. Hacemos lo que es necesario, individual-mente, cada uno de nosotros vendemos [nuestras] pertenencias y damos limosna; ceñimos [nuestras] ropas y encender [nuestras] lámparas; Defendemos nuestra casa de los ladrones. Hagamos la voluntad de Dios y sigámosla con seriedad y atención. Haga-mos estas cosas, por la gracia de Dios. Y nos ale-graremos cuando volvamos a ver al Hijo del Hom-bre.

Dear St. Clare Parish Community, Tomorrow, our faculty and staff will join together with edu-cators from the Diocese of San Jose’s Catholic schools for a Convocation Mass at Mission Santa Clara de Asis. Over 600 educators will fill the church to begin together in prayer and community as we joyfully begin another year in our vocation to form the hearts and minds of young people. Bishop Cantú will preside at mass. Superintendent Jennifer Beltramo will begin the day ac-knowledging the great and profound mission we have be-fore us. The Department of Catholic Schools, the office who oversees the schools in the Diocese of San Jose, wel-comes Assistant Superintendent Caroline Sliney who comes to us from the Archdiocese of New York. With the support and blessing of Bishop Cantú, we will seek to culti-vate a Culture of Vocations, a Culture of Encounter and a Culture of Innovation in our schools. We ask you to pray for us and we thank you in advance for your presence, your prayers and your support. We are grateful to have you as our partners in this mission. School begins Wednesday, August 14! Please be mindful of parents and students especially during drop off and pick up times as they navigate the excitement of the first day of school. SAINT CLARE

Clare’s father was a count, her mother the countess blessed Orsola-na. Her father died when the girl was very young. After hearing Saint Francis of Assisi preach in the streets, Clare confided to him her desire to live for God, and the two became close friends. On Palm Sunday in 1212, her bish-op presented Clare with a palm, which she apparently took as a sign. With her cousin Pacifica, Clare ran

away from her mother‘s palace during the night to enter religious life. She eventually took the veil from Saint Francis at the Church of Our Lady of the Angels in Assi-si, Italy.

Clare founded the Order of Poor Ladies (Poor Clares) at San Damiano, and led it for 40 years. Everywhere the Franciscans established themselves throughout Europe, there also went the Poor Clares, depending solely on alms, forced to have complete faith on God to provide through people; this lack of land-based revenues was a new idea at the time. Clare’s mother and sisters later joined the order, and there are still thousands of mem-bers living lives of silence and prayer.

Clare loved music and well-composed sermons. She was humble, merciful, charming, optimistic, chivalrous, and every day she meditated on the Passion of Jesus. She would get up late at night to tuck in her sisters who’d kicked off their blankets. When she learned of the Franciscan martyrs in Morrocco in 1221, she tried to go there to give her own life for God, but was restrained. Once when her convent was about to be attacked, she displayed the Sacrament in a monstrace at the convent gates, and prayed before it; the attackers left, the house was saved, and the image of her holding a monstrance became one of her emblems. Her patronage of eyes and against their problems may have developed from her name which has overtones from clearness, bright-ness, brilliance – like healthy eyes.

Toward the end of her life, when she was too ill to attend Mass, an image of the service would display on the wall of her cell; thus her patronage of television. She was ever the close friend and spiritual student of Francis, who apparently led her soul into the light at her death.

At the funeral for a brother Knight the priest told a story about his mother and sister debating mirrors in Heaven. Sis said yes, mom said no. Sis insisted and mom asked why? Sis said, “Well how does God see himself?” Mom said, “My dear all he has to do is look into our faces.” So, next time you look into a mirror, look very, very closely, who do you see?

Preparándonos para Nuestra Participa-ción en el Festival de Arte y Vino de San-ta Clara. Como ustedes saben la Comunidad Hispana participará en el Festival de Arte y Vino de Santa Clara como actividad para recabar

Gracias por su apoyo. Clases de Preparación para Quinceañeras Si desean celebrar su Quinceañera aquí en la parroquia, en los meses de septiembre 2019 a abril 2020. Es impor-tante que pasen a la oficina registrase lo antes posible. Uno de los requisitos es asistir a las clases de preparación y estas solo se ofrecen dos veces al año. Las que cubren las Quinceañeras en las fechas mencionadas anteriormen-te serán en septiembre. Inscripciones

la Primera Comunión, como para los que deseen recibirla. La Primera Comunión se recibe en segundo año en el pro-grama. Sabía Usted Que… El 15 de agosto, celebramos la Solemnidad de la Asunción de María, donde se conmemora su subida gloriosa al cielo. Ya que a Iglesia Católica nos enseña que cuando María termina su vida terrenal, Dios la eleva en cuerpo y alma al cielo. Esta es una fiesta de guardar o de precepto, es de-cir, los católicos tenemos la obligación ir a Misa en este día. Ayude a la Sociedad de San Vicente de Paúl

A fé e a esperança do povo de Deus estão bem defenidas nas leituras deste Domingo. Na realidade S. Paulo na Segunda Leitura numa só frase clarifica-nos do que significam essas virtudes no viver de todos aqueles que fazem esforços para viverem no “abraço” que Deus nos tem no seu amor de Pai. “A fé é a garantia dos bens que se esperam e a certeza das realidades que não se vêem”. Os bens que esperamos residem na esperança da salvação nos legada por Jesus Cristo na Sua paixão, morte e Ressurreição. Na Sua Ressurreição todos nós pela fé, esperamos ressuscitar tal como Ele ressuscitou! Aqueles que vivem na fé; por esta virtude firme tem a sua esperança assegurada e deste modo tem a sua vida solidificada no amor de Deus. “Feliz o povo que o Senhor escolheu para a sua herança”. Assim nos diz o refrão deste Domingo o que solidifica a mensagem de S. Paulo na sua carta aos Hebreus. A nossa felecidade está ligada intrisícamente á fé e á esperança, ela é o sinal concreto do nosso relacionamento com Deus. Quanto mais fazemos esforços para viver intensamente e intimamente com Deus mais felizes nos sentimos e nos deixamos invadir pela verdadeira paz que vem de Deus. A proximidade do fim do mundo não é um convite para a inactividade, desinteresse, lazeira, deixar o essencial do dia a dia ao abandono á espera que este aconteça; pelo contrário S. Lucas no Evangelho de hoje para estarmos atentos, vigilantes, completamente conscientes de que quando este tal dia chegue estejamos no lado e no amor de Deus. Vivamos no hoje abraçados pelo amor do Pai porque é no hoje e agora que Deus quer estar com cada um de nós.

Notícias Piquenique Comunitário: O CPP marcou o Domingo dia 29 de Setembro próximo para em família comunitária celebrar-mos o que somos culturalmente e religiosamente aquilo que somos nesta paróquia. Tal como nos anos anteriores este evento para ser bem sucedido necessita a intervenção participativa de todos os membros da nossa comunidade. A nossa intervenção consiste em doarmos: ofertas para o bazar, rifa e leilão, dando estes a qualquer membro do CPP. Outra forma de ajuda é comprar bilhetes e convidar familiares e amigos para virem a este convívio e/ou oferecer ofertas monetárias que servirão estas para ajuda dos custos dos ingredientes deste evento. Por favor marquem esta data nos vossos calendários a fim de não faltarem á mesma. Padre para a missa em português: Enquanto a Diocesa de San José não colocar um padre que venha para a nossa paróquia para assistir o padre Tad a nossa comunidade deve estar confiante no CPP. Este Conselho tudo faz para normalizar a nossa situação e para que este grupo seja bem sucedido necessita o nosso apoio e como comunidade é essencial que nos mantenhamos unidos como uma família. Tenhamos também confiança nos leigos que servem esta comunidade porque estes tudo fazem para que os nossos serviços litúrgicos sejam eficazes e que tenham muito boa qualidade de vida activa na base da Palavra de Deus. Que nas nossas orações diárias sejam estas dirigidas ao Espírito Santo para que este nos guie e nos envie um sacerdote para nosso guia espiritual.
