Alpha Beta Chapter Newsletter | Issue # 8

This fall, we will be hosting our 150th anniversary event on November 4th and November 5th!Rooms at the Sheraton hotel in downtown Iowa City will be reserved for alumni if they need a place to stay for the weekend. I will send out an email and post on Facebook when you can start reserving rooms. On the 4th, alumni are free to stop by the Beta house any time. Also, the bar at the Sheraton will be rented out for exclusively for Betas and their families. This will be a great chance for our active members to a gain a better relationship with alumni and for alumni to catch up with each other. On the 5th, there will be a meeting at the chapter house in the morning to discuss future plans and ideas for Beta moving forward. That night, there will be a dinner banquet at the Sheraton. We will be selling tickets for this event that will go on sale during the summer. Please look out for an invitational email. Furthermore, we are trying to get a keynote speaker (who is a Beta) to talk to everyone! Also, there is going to be a DJ, the active chapter will be singing, and numerous awards will be given out. This is an event that you will not want to miss! If you are available or want to know more about this event, feel free to contact our Vice President of Communications, Jonathan Smith: [email protected] . We look forward to hearing from you in the future!

Parents WeekendBy: Jason Pierce

Parents weekend 2016 was a success! Parents came to spend time with their sons as well as meet other parents of the fraternity members. They were given a house tour of the chapter structure and were impressed at the way the brothers of the Alpha Beta maintain and care for their beloved home.On Friday night, many parents came up and enjoyed a night out in Iowa City with their sons. Parents shared stories of their time spent here at Iowa and were excited for their kids to experience the same.Sophomore Sam Studers parents grilling food!

On Saturday afternoon, Vice President Sam Studer invited the parents to the house to enjoy breakfast. He discussed different events the fraternity plans on hosting, such as our philanthropy and the 150th anniversary event next fall. Later that evening, we kicked off our parents day BBQ, where we served an array of food and spent some quality time on our deck.
