01 HAECO Maintenance Facilities, Chek Lap Kok International Airport, Hong KongAs lead consultant to the Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company (HAECO), Meinhardt helped to build some of the most technologically advanced aircraft facilities in Asia. Through careful planning and project management, we not only improved the programme efficiencies and overall safety standards of the hangars, we were able to realise total estimated savings for the client of HK$103 million.

02 CX Cargo Terminal, Hong KongCathay Pacific Cargo Terminal, the largest terminal in the world, required Meinhardt’s multi-disciplinary capabilities including lead consultancy, project management, all engineering and architectural services. Benefits upon completion include significant improvements to cargo delivery times, transhipment connections and truck queue times, all of which sustain the hub’s competitiveness.

03 One North MRT Station, Singapore The One North MRT station is a key part of the Circle Line, connecting to and from Singapore’s Buona Vista Interchange. As overall lead consultant, Meinhardt assembled a high calibre design and project team with a key focus on true, integrated engineering-led design. Our lead consultancy approach provided timely completion of this important station and link to serve the advance stage of the Bio-medical hub in the Buona Vista area. Despite very difficult ground conditions, this was completed within the original project budget with no delays.

04 Deep Tunnel Sewerage System, SingaporeThis project was designed to meet Singapore’s needs for the 21st century. Meinhardt worked on two of the tunnel contracts, which are 7.2km and 9.2km long, to form the complete North Sewer Tunnel. As lead consultants, we provided a design solution with a high level of buildability for tunnelling contracts that had highly variable ground conditions and water issues. Both contracts were finished on time and within the budget of the Design and Build contracts.

05 Signature Towers, Dubai, UAEMeinhardt was lead consultant for the gulf region’s newest iconic building. We engineered the ambitious architectural designs to create a buildable and practical solution and then assembled a full design team.

06 A380 Terminal Upgrade, Melbourne Airport, Australia Meinhardt was appointed lead consultant to deliver on the client’s objectives to be the first airport in Australia to be A380-ready. Our lead consultancy team focus and approach was to create a staged design, enabling operational and business continuity over a series of critical phases, which met stakeholder needs and delivered an affordable design solution.

Together, we face challenges and change like never before. Population growth, ageing infrastructure and climate change mean that we must build sustainability into every part of the development process.

At Meinhardt, we understand it is no longer adequate to design and implement projects as we have in the past. In light of this thinking, we have developed the experience and expertise to provide the technically feasible, cost effective and environmentally viable solutions needed in these constantly changing and demanding conditions.

Our specialist, global level of capability in the areas of infrastructure and environment gives us the unique ability to manage every facet of a major project as a ‘one stop’ option for clients. Innovatively and sustainably.

The seamless co-operation between Meinhardt’s global operations has resulted in excellent engineering and environmental consulting services, particularly throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Meinhardt is committed to providing comprehensive project management at every stage of a development including client and stakeholder partnering and this was strongly in evidence in the work undertaken for the new underground Rapid Transit System that will bring large-scale changes to travel in Singapore.

Downtown Line, Singapore One of the largest development projects in recent times for Singapore, the Downtown Line (DTL) will be built in three stages, to be finalised in 2017. When complete, it will be about 42km long with 34 underground stations and will enhance the connectivity of the Rapid Transit System network. More than half a million passengers will use the system every day when in full operation.

Downtown Line Stage 3 (DTL3) consists of 16 underground stations over a total route length of approximately 23km. Meinhardt was appointed as the Lead Consultant to provide Architectural & Advanced Engineering Study and Architectural/ Engineering Consultancy Services for Package C. Meinhardt was also appointed by the Land Transport Authority of Singapore as Accredited Checker to provide independent checking for the permanent works and temporary earth retaining structures for Package A.

Meinhardt’s expertise in infrastructure planning and design enables us to assess and report on the extremely complex engineering challenges as the project develops in stages. Impacts and constraints are carefully studied and analysed using both our local specialists and drawing upon the global knowledge bank that Meinhardt has built up over decades with our proven record of success in transit design.

Meinhardt continues to expand the boundaries of technological innovation and develop dynamic and efficient structural solutions.

Our processes and expertise were definitely put to the test on a cutting-edge building development at Marina Bay in Singapore.

Marina Bay Financial Centre, SingaporeLocated at the waterfront in Marina Bay, the new epicentre of Singapore’s financial and banking activity for the 21st century comprises five high rise towers with associated retail and extensive underground parking. The total space measures around 6 million square feet and encompasses two residential towers of 66 and 55 storeys and three commercial office towers up to 50 storeys.

The overall development is due to complete in 2012. Meinhardt has provided integrated engineering for the mega development which has already won awards for Design and Engineering Safety Excellence (Merit), Construction Productivity and Green Mark.

Meinhardt devised a robust and efficient structural system utilising a dual lateral load resisting system coupled with a hybrid floor system. This provided exceptional structural performance and extremely efficient concrete usage.

For excavation, an innovative island construction method was devised in conjunction with the contractor, comprising contiguous bored secant pile walls, deep cement mixed soil and treated perimeter soil berms. The system significantly reduced the quantum and extent of strutting and allowed concurrent excavation and super-structure works.

We believe that successful urban development projects are based on the long-term continuity of our specialist teams and their dedicated attention to every aspect of the development process. This essential requirement was highly evident in the massive Greenvale land development in Melbourne, Australia.

Greenvale, Melbourne, Victoria The Greenvale development, for client Peet Ltd, in Melbourne’s major growth corridor is made up of four distinct precincts and is one of the biggest land releases in the city’s history.

Meinhardt has taken a holistic approach to the development life cycle over a 20-year period. We are responsible for Infrastructure Master Planning for the entire development, including housing, schools, parks, sporting fields and shopping precincts.

Of particular note is the design of a major expressway linking the area to designated public transport infrastructure and the construction of a storm water facility able to handle a ‘one-in-a-million’ storm event.

“We are witnessing one of the most profound changes in the history of the city’s development. This will fire the first real shot over the bow of housing affordability.”
