Dear Friends:

I would like to thank you for your generous support for Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club. For 69 years, the Club has been at the forefront of youth development on Long Island, work-ing with young people of all economic, social and family circumstances.

With your support, the Club and its members have had a lot to celebrate in 2018.

• Our YOY Larissa Izaguirre achieved the honor of New York State 2018 Youth of the Year. Club members who earn the YOY title embody the values of leadership, service, charac-ter and academic excellence. A natural leader with a talent for public speaking, Larissa made us all proud!

• The Club also enjoyed a banner year for Basketball, our signature athletic program. More than 580 children from the local community participated with 140 players in our High School League. Kids of all ages experienced the joy of playing a sport they love while learning strategy, sportsmanship and teamwork.

• One of the most popular activities at the Club remains our Science program led by longtime Club employee Seth Watkins. Seth manages to strike the right balance to keep the study of science fun, while teaching the children about the scientific mysteries and wonders of the world around us.

• The Club celebrated College Signing Day, gathering to hear the graduating seniors announce their chosen destina-tions for the fall including Curry College, Dartmouth College, Goucher College, Hofstra University, LeMoyne College, SUNY Geneseo, SUNY Oneonta, and York College. Most were the first in their family to attend college.

The Club provides the only affordable year round after-school care for children ranging in age from 5 to 18 years in the Locust Valley area. The need that was recognized by our founders in 1950 has never been greater than today. We strive to make a positive difference for kids, with the staff and the tools necessary to bring this vision to life.

We thank you for your longstanding support. Together, we can ensure that our community’s young people go on to have great futures.

YOUTH OF THE YEAR

2019Since 1947, the Youth of the Year has been Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of our teens. Club members who earn the Youth of the Year title embody the values of leadership, service, character and academic excellence. They exemplify the critical impact that Boys & Girls Clubs have on the lives of young people.

This year, our Club’s Youth of the Year is Anthony Aguilar, a scholar athlete dedicated to community and Club service. Anthony is a junior at Glen Cove High School where he maintains an A+ average as a member of the Varsity Football and Track & Field teams, the Wind Ensemble, the Pep Band, and the National Honors Society. At school, Anthony leads by example, demonstrating commitment and enthusiasm, accepting challenges and balancing the demands of a part time job.

Anthony joined the Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club when he was in the first grade. As an active member for eleven years, he has participated in many of the Club’s programs including College Prep, City Club and Money Matters. Anthony wants to encourage other teens to stay involved in the Club and to actively participate in the opportunities offered there. “The Club helped me realize that I actually do have a chance [to go to college] and it has helped me work harder in school.”

As Treasurer of the Keystone Club, Grenville Baker’s community service and leadership organization, Anthony has performed more than 75 hours of service every year in high school. His favorite project was traveling with the Club to Panama to help build teacher housing for a school and assisting in the classroom with reading and English.

Next year, Anthony hopes to become the first member of his family to go to college. I know I speak for our entire Club, staff and members alike, in saying that Anthony is an exceptional young man and we are so proud to have him represent us this year in Albany and beyond as our Youth of the Year.
