Music Video Analysis – Phoebe Budgen Aphex Twin- Come To Daddy Target Audience & Needs I reckon that the target audience for this music video is horror lovers. People that enjoy creepy things, i.e. emos & goths. Lyrics (Meaning Implied?) There isn’t much to say about the lyrics as the only lyrics used in the song are “I want your soul” & “come to daddy”. The singer is directing the lyrics of wanting a soul towards the old woman whose dog takes a wee on the TV where this evil creature appears from. The music in this video is mostly screaming which represents fear and terror. In the middle of the video the music stops and this lullaby music starts playing but in a creepy way like in horror films, this creates tension in the song and for the audience also. Tempo The tempo of the music is very fast and upbeat. Genre The genre of this song is electronic drum & bass. This causes the tempo of the song to be very fast, some might even say violent as in the video children are seen going around wreaking havoc, trashing an alley and chasing a man into his car. The video to this song does not match the lyrics in any way as I would not represent electronic music in the way that this artist did. The quality of the music is very poor, I don’t know whether it was intended but the music sounds disorientated and squeaky, this is probably the reason why the singer is on a television to create this effect. The singer repeats “come to daddy” to the children featured in the video, this is to show that he is there leader, there Satan. Lullaby music plays to get a scarier effect as the creepy children are skipping. This “creature” that appears out of the television is seen to be screaming in an old ladies face near the end of the video, this is heard within the sound and creates an edge on a terrifying music video.

Aphex Twin- Come To DaddyTarget Audience & Needs

I reckon that the target audience for this music video is horror lovers. People that enjoy creepy things, i.e. emos & goths.

Lyrics (Meaning Implied?)

There isn’t much to say about the lyrics as the only lyrics used in the song are “I want your soul” & “come to daddy”.

Camera Technique The camera techniques used within the video are: multiple establishing shots showing where this footage was recorded. There are also many close-ups of the “demon” face and also close-ups of the old woman’s face as she reacts to such horror. There are 2 two-shots in the video, one of 2 children skipping holding hands and also one of the creature & woman. There are also multiple long shots throughout.
