before dawn. On some occasion, the animal was spotted duringdaylight, normally during the first 2-3hours after dawn, and were mostlysolitory. Macacus cynomolgusor theLong Tailed Macaque Monkey werealso captured on camera and weremostly caught active much later in

the late afternoon. In the picture onthe left, a juvenile holds on to theadult monkey, and may have roam ina rather small groups of maybe 7-8animals.

Being inside the perimetersof the university, such animals livingin the area can be an importantindicator that can be both good andbad. Large sounders or groups ofanimals indicates a striving popula-tion, and should be of great

concerns if it is near development orhuman habitation, as they maybecome a nuisance. Smaller groupsmeanwhile indicates the area maynot have enough food source tosustain large groups (also probableindicator these animals will roamnear human activities where food

    may be abun-dant). Smallgroups also maybe an indicatorthe existants ofpredators in thearea. Felinetracks had beenp r e v i o u s l yo b s e r v e d

showed possible large feline, prob-ably wildcats. Little information isavailable on the wildlife statussurrounding Jeli, which sits nicely inlowland dipterocarp forests where anabundance of species live and strive.Sitting in the middle of development, the Jeli Campus must take the initia-tive to maintain wildlife and incorpo-rating the infrastructure develop-ment, as well ensuring the safety ofthe universitys community.

recently from the 19th to 20th Janaury. The colloqium, organized by the post-graduate students of FIAT and FSBwas a platform for the postgraduatestudents to present their researchproposal or the current progress of theirrespective research. It was also a good

    exposure, as feedback and advice

can be given directly and discussedwith the the students with regards tothe research study. Kudos to the post-graduate students of both faculty fororganizing such a beneficial eventwhich is held twice a year.
