Consent to the Nomination of the Mediterranean Diet for Inscription on UNESCO'sWorld Intangible Cultural Heritage List
The Bol Comprehensive School as an institution for the education of young people has in itscurriculum for tourist and catering occupations the sUbject of cooking. In these classes ourteachers have for years been popularizing the preparation of typical Mediterranean,Dalmatian and Brac dishes and attempting to educate the local population on the benefits ofhomemade meals for a longer and happier life. Of course this is also a way to enrich thegastronomic variety for our guests and offer them a more diversified and healthier menu. Inthe last years our school has on two occasions been the co-organizer of the event"Gastrobrac 04 and 05" whose aim is promote pilchards and tuna as healthy food. Very oftenour students have in their final exams topics from this field. I believe the above clearly showsthat we wish to actively participate in the project on the Mediterranean diet and its protectionas part of our cultural intangible heritage.

Consent to the Nomination of the Mediterranean Diet for Inscription on UNESCO'sWorld Intangible Cultural Heritage List
From its inception in 2000 the Public Library Sutivan has been devoting specialattention to the collection of archival materials linked to tradition and elements of intangiblecultural heritage, both on the island of Brac and on other islands. The collected data isprocessed and used in the organization of exhibitions, lectures, presentations as well asworkshops for children with a view to adopting and transferring traditional values andcustoms as exceptionally important for the preservation of one's own cultural and historicalidentity.
Logically the support to the proposed initiative of nominating the phenomenon of the"Mediterranean diet" and its protection as part of our cultural heritage is a continuation of theabove activities.
In that spirit we give our support and consent to the Ministry of Culture of the Republicof Croatia and other institutions in the mentioned initiative and offer our cooperation inspecific actions for the further popularization of the proposed phenomenon.

Dear Madame,
The Elementary School Pucisca and the School Society Medujok are joining all theother proponents who wish to protect the phenomenon of the Mediterranean diet. Therefore,we give our consent to the nomination initiated by the Institute for Ethnology.
The educational activities in our school are based on studying, respecting andpreserving natural and cultural heritage. A large part of the curriculum and all the extracurriculum projects in the school are linked to heritage topics. The pupils collect informationin their immediate surroundings, process them and present them to the public. The result ofsuch an educational approach was an edible souvenir - a sweet, the product of our SchoolSociety. The sweet is made according to a very old redpe for gingerbread which the pupilsreclaimed from oblivion by tapping on the memories of the oldest inhabitants in PuCisca. Ourgingerbread is made exclusively from indigenous ingredients (olive oil, sage honey, homegrown lemon peels) and worthily represents the tastes and fragrances of our island.
We are convinced that by joining this nomination application we are taking part in an actionthat is beneficial for our entire country.
Sincerely yours,
Director

Statement/Consenton inclusion in the nomination of the phenomenon of
Mediterranean Diet
I recognized the value and significance of our Hvar (Mediterranean) diet very early, watchingmy mother and her skills in preparing meals and deserts from products grown in our fertile, although mostly rocky Hvar soil. Writing verses in the Hvar cakavica dialect I inserted intomy poems various recipes and ways of preparing meals and deserts. To the most part theywere linked to the rural environment. Upon my arrival to Stari grad I recognized the value andimportance of a special sweet called the Starogrojski paprenjok (a type of gingerbread fromStari Grad) - a confectionary dating from the times of Hektorovic. I wrote a book about it onthe basis of which the recipe was protected. It is my wish for it to become an intangibleCroatian cultural good, a protected island product, but above all I would like to have theyoung people from our town learn to prepare this sweet so the tradition of its manufacturecan live on. In addition I would like it to become an original souvenir from Stari Grad.
I joined to the project "Medicinal Herbs in Our Grandmothers' Kitchens" initiated in the localSenior Citizens Home and I hope to have a book on this subject published soon. Theactivities undertaken by the staff and beneficiaries of the Home are geared at reviving themethods of preparing meals in the old way by using plants and products from our region.
I also encourage restaurant owners to put on their menus our tested old recipes which theybegan doing as of late.
I support this project and give my consent for the nomination of the Mediterranean diet as Ibelieve in its beneficial health effects. The protection and proclamation of this phenomenonwould contribute to the greater consumption of this diet and to the organized production inthe Stari Grad Field (Agera - protected by UNESCO) and other fertile surfaces coveredtoday by pine trees. This would also open up new employment opportunities and enable ouryoung people to lead a better life on our island.

Consent regarding the participation in the project "Mediterranean Diet"
We hereby confirm that the Culture Centre BraG agrees to be a holder of the project"Mediterranean Diet". Through its activities the Centre contributed to the establishment of theattributes of a cultural property for the traditional dish vitalac and is currently participating inthe efforts for establishing the same attribute to the authentic Dol cake hrapoGusa. Since2010 the Centre has been active in the international culinary event "Pearl of the Sea" as hostto numerous participants who have the opportunity to familiarize themselves in the Museumof the Island of BraG with the cultural history of the island with special emphasis on theculture and preparation of food. Within the other activities of the Museum, which is part of theBraG Culture Centre, particularly during the Night of Museums, we promote our traditionalsweets such as hrapoGusa, gingerbread from PUGisca, BraG cake, hrustula and prsuratamade by the BraG women, elementary school pupils and BraG associations. Whenacquainting the visitors of the BraG Museum with the cultural heritage of our island we drawtheir attention to the, until recently, neglected daily food of the peasants from the BraGplateau. We believe, that given our activities to date, which we shall try to expand with new activities,we can contribute to the realization of the project "Mediterranean Diet".

Dear Madame,
The association "Forske Uzonce" is one of the proponents of the nomination of thephenomenon of Mediterranean diet and accordingly we give our consent to the nomination.
Through our activities we promote interest in the Mediterranean diet and contribute toits relevance. Two of our most important events connected to the Mediterranean diet are:
1. Carnival ( tradition linked to masquerading and traditional diet)2. Festival of St Prosper (fair): promotion of traditional production and Mediterranean
diet. This festival gave rise to the event Good Taste (an event organized byrestaurant owners and based on the presentation and tasting of traditional dishes)
I believe united in this way we can achieve great results.
Sincerely yours,
President of the Association
