Aim Working in the management of a company with international/cross-border
business seeks for basic knowledge of European business law.
The European Union is the most important trading partner for Switzerland. Its
Common Market offers a lot of opportunities to companies as well as to
consumers. Knowing the legal framework of the EU brings advantages to
understand the rights and obligations and to foresee legal developments in the
future. The course provides with a profound introduction to the legal and
political system of the EU and its Common Market.
Compliance and corporate governance is a more and more important factor for
companies to avoid fines and sanctions. The course provides with the "dos" and
"don'ts" under EU competition law and the anti-money laundering (AML) rules to
an extent that allows the students to recognize risks and to behave correctly.
As the financial market sector is one of the most important for Switzerland, and
Swiss law especially in the financial sector is more often affected by the
developments of EU law, the course gives an overview of legal aspects and
latest developments in regard to financial services and supervision of the
financial sector.
