FROM YOUR LODGE SECRETARY

Hello to All!

September has come and gone and now we are really heading into the Fall season. It has cooled down considerably, so I am happy. Lots of fun things coming in the month of October. On October 1st we have "Jazz by Joyce" in the Gazebo. We hope this event will show how much fun our outdoor events can be!

On September 23rd we had an awesome Luau and it was a benefit for ENF (Elks National Foundation). A big thank you to Joe Tato for cooking the dinner and to Bill Sollows and Calvin Cox who helped also. We actually had lots of members helping, and

it was much appreciated. The Ukulele Group from San Rafael played for the Luau and it was enjoyed by all.

At our Lodge meeting on September 20th we initiated seven new members: Patrick Chapman, Barbara Solis, Larry Kier, Artie Kenney, Dave Case, Joseph Sullivan, and Peggy Sue Decius. We welcome them all to our Lodge. Also, please welcome from the Vallejo Lodge, Gary Arneson. On October 4th we will be welcoming our District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler, Joe Tato. It would be nice to see a lot of members attending this event and dinner.

There are still 33 members who have not yet paid their dues for this year. Please do so if you are one of them!!

Fraternally, Judy Fisher - Lodge Secretary p.s. You should see how awesome this bulletin is in color by email instead of snail mail!

CALLING ALL BARTENDERS!!! To keep things running smoothly and keep costs down we are asking for any and every daytime volunteer bartender available. No experience necessary – we will

train you! The typical shifts available are 11:00 to 3:00 (which includes a free lunch) and 3:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday. Or even on an “on-call” basis,

Activities Report October 2017 Law Enforcement Night: Was on August 30, 2017. This was #832's first recent attempt at doing an Appreciation Night for our

community. We had over 75 officers and employees of the Police, Sheriff's, CHP & DA's office, along with their families & our

members; we had approximately 200 in attendance. We lucked out with great weather, it was a beautiful evening inside and out for

visiting, games, food and fun. Two Napa Law Enforcement officers were nominated for the Enrique's Camarena awards. PDDGER

Tim Jaeger was happy to present these officers with their certificates. The Enrique Camarena awards are connected to the Elk's Drug

Awareness program. There is an article and picture of this event posted on our picture board, please check it out. Many thanks going to

our Burger chefs, Bill Sollows and Cal Cox, more thanks to Doc Hendrickson, Dave Silveira, Len Fisher, Judy Fisher, Betty Sollows,

Tom Mc Farland, Sabine, Debbie and Gay. It was especially nice having all the children. I know we all appreciate what Law

Enforcement does for us, it was nice to share a burger and say thanks.

Playground: Is waiting for little customers. We are calling it The #832 SS Flyer. Please see my updated Playground notes in this

newsletter.

Patriot's Night: We were happy to welcome the Boy Scouts to present the colors and present the pledge. Sadly we had issues with the

short video (internet), and the microphone. It was one of those nights I was going coo-coo because of electronic malfunctions.

Thankfully we had a nice turnout and we thank Pam and Byron Orris for hosting the BBQ. Thank you Gay for the music. Patriot's

night is a time for remembering our county and those lost in 911. We will make changes next year, so we don't have malfunctions.

Luau: San Rafael Lodge joined with the Napa Lodge for an ENF Fundraising Luau. We had approximately 80 folks in attendance.

DDGER Joe Tato was the leading chef, he was joined by members of San Rafael lodge and the Napa chefs were Bill Sollows and Cal

Cox. Serving, decorating and cashiers from Napa were the Fishers, the Silveira's, Betty Sollows, Sheila Cox, Linda and Ron Rae. The

food was delicious and the music from The Ukulele Family Ohana was wonderful. The Ukulele Family had over 22 members,

playing, dancing & singing. What a treat! They even tried to teach the Napa folks how to Hula, such fun. You can catch that

performance on our Facebook page. On this occasion Gabriella Tato was awarded the US president’s award for youth volunteer,

congratulation Gabriella. Many thanks going to Charlie Travers for his donation to ENF. As you can guess this was a busy night at the

Napa Elks.

The Elks Ear Well October snuck in while I was busy listening to the members at the bar telling me what we were doing wrong. We are going

to have to be more vigilant because November is really sneaky. Did you come to our ENF fundraiser? Oh come on you know

what ENF is we talked about that last month! San Rafael Lodge brought over a ton of great food from Hawaii and a slue (a slue

is 5 more than a flock) of Hawaiian dancers and Ukulele players. A video was made of our fellow Elks learning to hula. It has

been forwarded to the America Can Dance Show!! This is where a lot of volunteers from both lodges made it happen; the Elks

can be fun and rewarding.

We are starting our first event at our new Gazebo on October 1st. This will truly be a learning experience! The event will feature

a group called "Jazz by Joyce". Food and adult beverages will be in place. We hope to have a full venue next year.

Our District Deputy will have his visitation on October 4th. This is where he tells us although we seem to be able to keep our

doors open; with a little more attention to details we could really be good. Our Officers do a very good job of making sure we

are one of the best Lodges around and the pay is great!!

The Holiday season is peeking around the corner. It is amazing how many events we get involved in. If you

really want to get your feet wet (and sometimes you do) check with anyone who looks like they might know

something, and you will be put to work.

The best is yet to come!

A Playground Update First, my apology to Mary Mattioda, Mary made a generous donation to the Playground.

The donation was listed as a Taco Tuesday baked goods donation and not under her

name. It took us a while to trace this down, but please know all donations to the

playground are appreciated. Thank you Mary!

The playground has had its issues in getting completed. In short, we had too much dirt,

not enough dirt, not level, not safe, placed in the wrong spot & groundcover decisions.

The good news is Jim Van Winden will finish up the playground soon, he will secure the

area and put in the groundcover. We will all be happy to see this project finished. I hope

to have a play date for the little ones soon, since the play set is a ship we hope to have

sailor hats and will serve punch and cookies. Date for this launching is pending.

Thank you everyone. Sandy Silveira E.R.
