2. FeaturesHigh productivity

Dual Beam / 4-head System

This machine has the dual-beam/4-head structure; one placement stage has pair of XY beams and each beam has 2 heads. The two beams alternately perform chip pick-up/recognition/placing to exclude the loss time to transfer chips to the utmost, and that realizes high-speed/high-accuracy placement.

CM301-DS is the Modular Multi-functional Placement Machine developed based on the new concept that provides the best placement environment in a small space according to the customer’s production type.

1. General Description

High productivityCombination of the optimized operation of four heads on dual beam and the high-operation or efficiency direct twin tray feeder provides the high-quality placement.High-accuracy placementComponents are placed at high speed and with high accuracy, through the high-accuracy line camera, the newly developed recognition system, and the placement position calibration function.Improved operation rate or efficiency and operabilityWorking hours can be reduced through the off-line preparation of support pins in changeover. Moreover, the LCD color touch panel has improved visibility and operability.

Double PCB Clamp

Two PCBs can be clamped on one stage (when the PCB length is 215 mm or under). This shortens the transport distance and time.∗ The following shows the case where the “PCB push-in time” is 800 ms. We recommend 1400 ms. PCB exchange time varies depending on the

other settings. Therefore the following are just examples, not being guaranteed. PCB push-in time: The period of time while the conveyor pushes a PCB after the PCB detection sensor (located on the placement unit) turns ON (To be programmed in machine parameters)

Dual-beam/4-head and direct twin tray feeder make the body more compact, which provides an excellent productivity in a limited space. The system most suitable for the customer’s production type is realized by coupling with the series models CM201-DS/CM202-DS, and more efficient operation is enabled in a small space.

*1: Under the best conditions *2: (×2) is for the case where the double tape feeder is used on CM201-DS/CM202-DS.

High-accuracy placement

The wide-view/high-accuracy line camera realizes stable placement of the chips from the large-sized fine-pitch QFP to 0603 (0201”) that require accuracy. Moreover, the line camera recognizes the chips consecutively while the head is traveling. This enables high-productivity placement.

Best Chip Recognition

The best illumination method, transmissive or reflective, is automatically selected according to the chip shape. The component, such as SOJ, PLCC, BGA and CSP that has electrodes on the reverse side of its package can be recognized in high-accuracy by using the reflective recognition.∗ The side illumination (CM301-DS standard equipment) is used for BGA/CSP placement.

Placement Position Calibration

Such as camera position calibration and nozzle position calibration, which used to require skill, areperformed by the machine automatically. This keeps high-level placement accuracy at all times.

X-Y Plane Automatic Calibration Function

Performing X-Y plane automatic calibration keeps high-level placement accuracy at all times.

Recognition Resolution Improved

The chip is scanned while it is crossing the line, and two chipsare recognized consecutively.

Operation rate / Operatability improved

All the data are created by the data creating unit, PT200-G. Data can be created on PT200-G even while the machine is running. Also, all the data of PT200-G support models can be created by the united operation.A part of data can be modified also by the machine itself, and the modified data feed back to PT200-G.∗ Please prepare the hardware for PT200-G by yourself.

For more information about the hardware specifications, please refer to the separate volume, “PT200-G Specification”.For information about the distribution of the modular machine, see page 23.

Support Pins Changeable At a Time

The PCB support block can easily be changed with the one that the support pins had been set beforehand. Setting the pins outside will shorten the pins changing time to about 20 s per point when changing PCB types.(Traditional pins changing time: 5 minutes per point )

LCD Color Touch Panel

The operating area uses the LCD color touch panel, providing clear views and allowing the user to select the desired language (Japanese/English/Chinese) with one touch of a button. (You can select Japanese/English or Japanese/English/Chinese.)

• Hierarchical OperationOperating screens are classified into three modes (operator, engineer and serviceman) to prevent improper operation to a minimum. Moreover, screen configuration is simplified to a necessary minimum.

• Tree Jump FunctionAt any screen, you can change the screen to the main menu screen, which saves your precious time.

To relocate the conveyor extension part to the right side due to the special specification, either the following condition 1 or 2 must be satisfied.

1. The conveyor of the left machine juts out by 380 mm or over.

2. The above working space can be secured by installing the extension conveyor or operator’s conveyor at the left side of the machine.

If neither condition 1 nor 2 is satisfied, the conveyor extension part cannot be relocated to the right side.In this case, add the conveyor extension part to the right side so that the conveyors will jut out to bothsides.

6.2 Fiducial Marks

A PCB needs two PCB fiducial marks at its opposite corners.

■ PCB Fiducial Mark Specifications

Standard Mark Shapes and Dimensions

Standard Mark Shapes Dimensions

φ0.5 mm ~ φ1.6 mm

Length and width: 0.5 mm to 1.6 mm

Length and width: 0.5 mm to 1.6 mm

Length and width: 0.5 mm to 1.6 mm

Length and width means the dimensions of the quadrangle circumscribing the mark.See below for dimensions.

Because PCB recognition correction is based on the positional relationship between the marks and the circuit pattern (conductor pattern), the marks must be made in the same process and of the same materials as the circuit pattern from the viewpoint of correction accuracy.

Because, basically, mark recognition process is carried out based on the intensity difference of reflected light, a fixed contrast is required between the mark materials and the PCB base. This difference varies significantly depending on the plating condition, oxidation condition, surface height, unevenness, degree of mirroring, coating, or disturbance light; therefore, the assessment of the marks is required beforehand.

• The plane correction is a function that obtains the degree of distortion against a theoretical virtual plane from the total values of the locational error of X/Y-axis ball screws and the error derived form the inclination oforthogonality of PCB conveyor, and stores those values in the machine as offsets, enabling the machine to carry out positioning in the XY directions with placement coordinates always regarded as absolute coordinates.
