It is time to usher in the auspicious month of August - a time for Merdeka, nationhood, brother-hood, Malaysia Boleh and the 1Malaysia spirit.
The long awaited police station has finally become a reality. Seri Petaling Residents’ Association (SPRA) extends its gratitude to those who had contributed to the birth of this station. We have also added CCTVs in the pipeline in an effort to step up security in the community. The project can only be successful with the cooperation of PDRM, DBKL and the residents.
SPRA has provided input on the Draft Kuala Lumpur Local Plan. We have proposed a Dataran Seri Petaling at the heart of the township. We also suggested that a proper wet market and a food court to be attached to the multi-storey car park behind the Telekom building and Maybank (car park reserve land).
A project which delighted many, is the construc-tion or, more appropriately, the relocation of Chinese primary school, SJK (C) La Salle to our township. The first phase of the construction, which is fully funded by the government should take off soon and the school will be fully opera-tional, hopefully, by 2012.
Even though the contruction of the Putrajaya Highway is completed, SPRA continues to render assistance to the affected residents. We are still seeking compensation and the set up of sound barriers, while monitoring the outstanding repair work on damaged houses caused by the highway construction.
Among the social and sports activities affiliated to SPRA are Seri Petaling Choir, Qi-Gong, Bad-minton and the newly formed Senior Citizen Club. Other major events included Countdown Dinner and CIMB Foundation - SPRA Badminton Cham-pionship. These activities and events helped foster harmony among residents.
Lastly, I would like to thank my committee and sub-committee members who have contributed tremendously in carrying out all activities. As for the volunteers, thank you for making it possible for security services to exist in every corner of Seri Petaling.

My dad, a heavy smoker, bragging to me that he was eating a healthy diet. I thought for while. Smoking increases the chance of heart attack, eating right decreases it. Zero sum game, no? Even with exercise and eating healthy, we can't offset the damages done by smoking, can we?
Seeing illegal advertisements gets my blood boiling. Sticking ads on road names, parking meter or trees, this is too much. I am pleading to everyone to clean up our place. Sin Nam Housing Development has surrendered its land to the Land Office on Dec 31, 2008 for an approval to use it for the promised relocated Chinese primary school. The land office’s ap-proval is still pending. The board of governor from SJK(C) La Salle, has set up a school relocation committee, which has been working with a group of consultants, including architects, civil & structure engineers, mechanical & electrical engineers, quantity and land surveyor on the project. The consultants offer their services free of
charge.
Soil investigation has been completed. The committee is currently at the final stage in drafting the building plans.
Once approved, construction will begin with phase 1, which will see the set up of 36 classrooms and 12 other facilities (principal’s and teachers’ office, canteen, laboratories etc). Phase 1 is expect-ed to be fully government funded and ready by 2012. Reported by Ng See Eng
乐圣华小搬迁大城堡
2008年12月31日，Sin Nam屋业发展商移交学校保留地于直辖区土地局，批准仍悬而未决。乐圣华小也同时成立了学校搬迁委员会，该委员会与一组义务专业技术团，包括建筑绘测，工程，土地测量师等，经过数月起草建设规划， 目前已进入最后阶段。
一旦获得批准，第一期工程，在政府完全资助下，将包括36间教室和12间 校长及教师办公室，食堂和实验室等建设。计划如一切顺利，将在2012年开课。

Seri Petaling residents now have the pleasure to enjoy a wonderful gift from DBKL – a well-equipped gymnasium located in the Seri Petaling Community Complex. A blood drive was held from 10am to 4pm on Aug 8, 2009 at the fourth floor of the Endah Parade shopping complex. We received an overwhelming response from the public with a record of 183 bags compared to last year of 99 bags. Staff members of the National Blood Bank worked tirelessly to cope with the huge crowd.
We would like to extend our gratitude to: The Art of Living Seri Petaling Centre for their love and kindness in organizing the event. Crimson First Sdn Bhd (Endah Parade) for providing space and furniture, free of charge.

We have established 5 security zones comprising 8 different sub-committees under the SPRA um-brella. More than 3000 households are being pro-tected. These security zones would not be made possible without hardworking and dedicated mem-bers who held countless meetings with residents, security firms and police officers. As a result, the crime rate in guarded areas has dropped by 90%. But the move to protect the residents does not stop there. We are working closely with the police, and launched several programs, including Inisiatif Bandar Selamat (IBS) and the Peti Surat Maklumat Polis. (Police Information Box).

1. NCC - Neighbourhood Centre Commercial Zone. ID -3018
Objection: According to Draft KL City Plan, Seri Petaling is under category of NCC, which says Hypermarket are prohibited. Now, Seri Petaling has 2 hypermarkets (Carrefour and The Store). So, the information in the draft plan is a mistake.
Proposal: Seri Petaling shall remain in the category of NCC which means the hypermarket is not required. It constrain small and medium domes-tic business development especially bumiputra. Capitalism causes wastage in shopping habit, which is buying unnecessary things.
2. Bazaria - Lot 307890. ID- 1946
Objection: Lot 307890 is reserved as a wet mar-ket, hawkers centre and partial as a bus terminal. DBKL has amalgamated both lot and turning it into Bazaria.
Proposal: This land shall remain as green area with facilities. Facilities such as multi purpose Seri Petaling square, jogging track and etc.
3. Car park beside Police Station - Lot 24208. ID- 3014
Objection: This lot is reserve for open car park. With the limited room, only less than 50 cars may park in the compound of the car park.
Proposal: Multi level building shall be build, in order to provide more space for car park. Lower level shall be use as wet market and hawker's center and car park at the upper level.
4. STP at Zone H - Lot 24208. ID-3006
Objection: This lot was reserved for STP which the usage of this plant have been termi-nated. The pond is opened and causes problems. Problem such as mosquitoes breeding and school children safety.
Proposal: Existing pond should be closed up and convert to green area or school reserve. Now, there are only 2.4% or 18 acres of total 745 acres of Seri Petaling compounds is of green area. More abandoned STP shall be converted to green area.
5. Surau reserve. ID-1961
Objection: There are only 10% of total resi-dents of Seri Petaling is a Muslim. Seri Petaling has 6 surau reserve. 3 surau have been built and the other 3 are still vacant. Existing surau and mosque are sufficient for the total Muslim residents in Seri Petaling. This unused surau are vacant.
Proposal: Balance 3 existing vacant surau reserve shall convert to others religious temples or green
area.
6. Bungalow lots next to water tank at Zone N. ID-1941
Objection: 20 bungalow lots along Jalan 7/149K are not suitable to be developed because the terrain is sloppy and is to the hill. Development of these 20 bungalows could encounter land slide and causes havoc situations to the existing houses nearby. The existing slope is in between 26 - 31 degree, which is considered safe at the moment.
Proposal: 20 bungalow lots along Jalan 7/149K should be taken over by the Government in order to gazette it as a buffer zone or green area. Devel-opment are prohibited in this sloppy compound.
7. STP at Zone P - Lot 30484. ID- 1936
Objection: This lot is reserved for STP. The plant has been shifted to a centralized treatment plant. According to Draft KL City Plan, this lot is

Objection: This lot is reserved for green area for public use. This has been shown on certified plan with number PA 14-100489. Draft KL City Plan
has says this land is proposed as residential lot.
Proposal: Correction shall be done on this mistake.
9. Driving range - Lot 1612. ID-1928
Objection: This lot is proposed for high den-sity residential development. The permitted
density is 240 person per acres. Total residents in Seri Petal-
ing have been reaching 50,000 persons, high den-
sity development will cause havoc to the traffics condi-
tions in all major access.
Proposal: Density of this lot should be reduced to 160
persons per acres. This lot shall use for low and low medium cost
residential flat or apartments.
10. Fishing pond - Lot 24203. ID-3010
Objection: This lot is reserved for STP which the usage of this plant have been terminated. This was a commercial fishing pond (now abandoned). This lot is proposed for high den-sity residential development. The permitted density is 320 person per acres. Current traffic conditions in the surround road is congested during the peak hour.
Proposal: DBKL should take over the land and convert the land into green area with the facilities of playground and basketball court. (For those residents within Zone K whom do not have any green area within their walking distance. }

cimb foundation-spra badminton championship
SPRA is grateful to hold one of the largest badminton events in town, with the sponsorship from, for the first time, CIMB Foundation and Pioneer Sports Manage-ment (M) Sdn. Bhd., in collaboration with DBKL. The championship was held from Mar 18 – 22, 2009 in the Seri Petaling Community Complex.
The event saw some 300 players participating, includ-ing many non-residents in the Open Category. Many former national and state players have also joined the fun.
One of the more than 20 Japanese university students entered the Singles Final in the Open Category, mark-ing the first foreigner qualifier.
CIMB Foundation has also raised RM25,008 in a charity drive, for the construction of SJK (C) La Salle. Donors had a chance to play with national players, such as Lee Wan Wah, Chong Tang Fook, Chan Chong
Ming, Chew Choon Eng, Wong Mew Choo, Hafiz Hashim, Tan Ee Kiong and Mak Hee Chun. The event also drew a record-breaking num-ber of visitors to the com-munity hall. Reported by Simon Kong.

During a recent meeting with TNB KL South, dated Aug 7, 2009 chaired by area man-ager, En Saiful Hakim, we were told that the recent major blackout was due to an uncommon double fault arising from cable joint and supply feed from PPU Perkampun-gan Sukan. He said TNB is already conduct-ing a scan on the entire cable status in Seri Petaling, using the PD Mapping system to rectify all possible cable joint defects. The scanning was expected to be completed by the end of this month, focusing on two main feeder cables from PPU Seri Endah, the main source of the blackout incident. Reported by Simon Kong

Seri Petaling Choir, under the guidance of Master Wang Jian Feng (黄建峰) held a Choir Interaction session with Tsun Jin High School alumni during the Chinese New Year 2009. For details on the choir group, contact Bee On at (012 605 3212.) Lessons are held every Sunday noon. The fee is RM30 per month.

highway issueFor the past almost two years, the residents living adjacent to the KL-Putrajaya Elevated Highway have been waiting for a response from Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia (LLM). Earlier, we were requested to conduct a survey on the impact of the highway to the residents which would be used as a basis to initiate a remedy for the affected residents. Despite numerous letters to follow up on the outcome, we were largely ignored. All these surfaced recently when we sought assistance from Tan Sri Mohd Sidek, Chief Secre-tary to the Government of Malaysia.
Our letter to Tan Sri Mohd Sidek in May 2009 reminding him on our long wait had prompted him to send an immediate letter to the Ketua Pengarah of LLM, Dato' Ir Hj Ismail. The resident committee representatives were then called in for a meeting with Dato' Ketua Pengarah and relevant parties which included DBKL, Ministry of Works, Maju Holdings, UTM and of course LLM themselves.
During the meeting, we were given an opportunity to reestablish our request to the authorities for a remedy to the issues faced by the affected residents. We reiterated the following as the oustand-ing matters: 1. Long outstanding decision for an amicable solution for the residents. 2. Noise pollution far exceeded the limit approved. 3. Outstanding repair work / compensation for houses with cracks still not completed.
The long meeting allowed us to present the facts at hand to Dato KP so that he is aware of the current situation the residents are facing. We were subsequently told that some of our request requires a decision by the Government and not the LLM. We were also told to provide the latest noise findings to verify our dispute on the current noise levels.
Jabatan Alam Sekitar has performed some noise monitoring at the site recently and the readings recorded showed that the current noise level is above the permitted levels stated in the condition of approval for the construction of the highway.

Ocountdown dinner & dance
On the 31 Dec 2008, Residents of Seri Pet-aling celebrated the countdown 2009 in the ballroom of Hotel Seri Petaling.
The committees of SPRA met up regularly since August 2008 to prepare for the event. Public Bank, Shell (Sun Wah & Co), Digi Telecomunication and many others sponsored in cash and kindness for the event. It was a time for rejoice and celebration remembering what 2008 had brought us and to welcomed 2009. We thanked all that made this event possible.
