Dear Parents,

WEEK 10 - NOW STUDENT FREE

The decision has been made that Week 10 (Next week) will be five (5) extraordinary Student Free Days. From

Monday, teachers will be working to prepare for what second term will look like should we return to a similar

life/community picture. Given the rapidly changing dynamic there is presently no clarity if term two will be face

to face, face to face and online or completely online. These scenarios are what we will be working through

next week.

Term one instruction ceases tomorrow.

I will continue to provide regular updates to our community as we move through next week. Personally and on

behalf of our school staff – a BIG thanks for the space and time next week in order to best be ready for second

term… Whatever that will look like…

IRONSIDE OSHC

Ironside OSHC will be commencing vacation care hours of operation from Monday 30 March. Hours of

operation are 7am - 6pm. Further communication will be provided by Ironside OSHC and is contained in this

newsletter.

Happy Easter Break

As this will now be the last ‘full’ newsletter of the term – Let me say a BIG THANKS and TAKE CARE during the

next three weeks. If you would have told me ten weeks ago this is what the end of term would look like, I would

have offered you a Cuppa, Bex and a good lie down! Such unprecedented times.

Look after yourselves and those around you. Spoil each other with calmness and kindness. We will see you back

in some way, shape or form in second term. At this stage, (in a format to be decided) – learning resumes on

MONDAY 20 APRIL.

Take care and as always.

Warm regards.

NEWS FROM MR MURDOCH

Dear parents and caregivers,

Learning@home - Wellbeing

In earlier communications (23/03), Mr Johnson highlighted the learning@home materials that have been

developed by the Department of Education. This website has downloadable learning materials, tips for

parents and links to other well-regarded, free education websites that parents and caregivers and their

children can use.

There is a plethora of learning materials available, but we would like to take a moment to draw your attention

to the wellbeing section of this website.

In times such as these, it is more important than ever to monitor, support and help children understand what is

happening in age-appropriate ways. Below is a link that will take you directly to this section of

learning@home where you can find ways to support your child/ren.

https://education.qld.gov.au/curriculum/learning-at-home/wellbeing-of-students

Please take a moment to read through these practical tips and advice to promote and practise positive

wellbeing.

Kind regards,

conflict resolution skills to assist younger students in the playground.

‘TAKE HOME’ BOOK FAIR

Book Fair is usually a very popular activity for the Ironside community. With the Book Fair planned for May

being cancelled, Sean from the Book Warehouse is proposing a “Take Home” Book Fair for our families.

Please refer to the flier (below) and the excel order form (link here). Sean will email you an invoice then

deliver books to your address.

With over 300 titles including fiction, non

-fiction, picture and activity books,

there’s sure to be something for every

avid reader at home these holidays.

Due to BCC Libraries being closed, our

school borrowing limits have been

doubled to cater for voracious readers.

Thanks, Ms Roche!

Stay safe and well.

YOUNG ICT EXPLORERS Young ICT Explorers is a competition for school students to produce their best Information and Communication

Technologies (ICT) related projects. Students compete in the following year level divisions:

Years 4

Years 5/6

The Young ICT Explorers competition aims to inspire and encourage school students to

consider ICT as a career opportunity and gain a greater understanding of the diverse

possibilities available through ICT. Students will work on their projects at home, during

supervised morning tea sessions and as the date gets closer, some class time may be

allocated.

Students/groups (up to 4 students per group) submit a short explanation of their project. From these submissions,

teachers will choose a limited number of projects for each category.

Students will then commence work on their projects and need to provide all the materials

required to complete their project. These projects reports will be submitted by the school

before submissions close on 28 June, however students can continue working on their

projects up until the judging event. An assessment panel will review all the projects submitted and invite the best

projects to attend the final judging event. If selected, participants will be required to attend the whole day

judging event on Saturday 22 August at the UQ Centre on the University of Queensland St Lucia campus.

Permission forms can be collected from Miss Vanzetti in 5C. These need to be returned to Miss Vanzetti by Friday

3 April. We need to assess all submissions and notify the successful

projects asap, as registration closes on the 5 June.

Yours sincerely,

Kylie Vanzetti.

Calling on Ironside alumni and teachers who have

interesting memories to write them down and send

them in!

Due: At the END of the school holidays, 17 April

To: [email protected] with subject field “story bite”.

LENGTH: approximately 500 words

STORY BITES: A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN IRONSIDE STUDENT

We are seeking contributions from former and current Ironside students, providing readers with an insight into

the student experience at different time periods throughout the school’s history.

OUTLINE: The storybite could be about a typical day in a student’s life or could concentrate on a particular

day that is memorable for a specific reason. Examples may be the impact of rationing on a student’s life, how

participating in an extra-curricular activity provided encouragement for future interests, and daily details such

as travelling to and from school, lunch time activities, and the classroom routines.

RATIONALE: By collecting stories across the decades we are aiming to provide a narrative for the school’s

development that focusses on a student’s experiences contemporary to their time at the school. Selected

contributions will be a key feature of the 150th Ironside Anniversary publication, to be published in October

2020. In addition, all contributions will be included, in print or audiovisual form, at the Gala Ball on the 10

October 2020.
