The producers, Anne McGhee Stinson and Sandy Haworth-South, interviewed local veterans from WWII to those who are serving in the wars overseas. Their poignant, moving and inspirational stories will be compiled and shared onstage in a reader's theatre format against a 7x10 foot shadow box. After the production, the cast, crew and veterans will parti-cipate in a question and answer session with the audience. This production is amazing and unique -- and these veterans are truly our heroes! We honor them by telling their stories and the sacrifices they have made for the citizens of this country. All shows will be at the Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts. And we are attempting to “take the show on the road" to present it at local schools and libraries where students can meet these veterans and learn more about their heroism. The United States Air Force Band and Color-Guard will be joining guest speaker Brigadier General David Warner, USAF (retired) with lunch and refreshments following the ceremony. Classes at the Castle Rock Campus, which is located at 4700 Castleton Way, began on Monday, Oct. 10. Festivities at the community open house will include refresh-ments, tours of the campus throughout the evening, as well as representatives from Pre-Enrollment Services and Financial Aid and the ACC Faculty, who will be on hand to answer questions and help prospective students prepare for the spring semester. Applications for the 2012 spring semester at ACC are currently being accepted and registration for courses begins on Monday, Nov. 21. The online schedule will be posted at arapahoe.edu in early November. Classes for the upcoming semester will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012. The Castle Rock Campus offers courses in five categories: associate of arts and associate of science transfer programs, career and technical education, workforce training, concurrent enrollment for high school students, and community education. The Castle Rock Campus also offers guaranteed transfer courses. The Castle Rock Community Green Team, in partnership with the Douglas County School District, will launch a community recycling drop-off site on Sat. Dec. 3rd. The site, located at 701 Prairie Hawk Drive will be open to the public on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The site launch will allow residents of Douglas County, who currently do not have access to curbside recycling, to drop off newspapers, cardboard, glass, plastic and tin or aluminum items (items normally accepted by Waste Management, who will be providing the service.) Volunteers from the Green Team and the Douglas County Senior’s Council will man the site to ensure that inappropriate items are not dumped on the site. (Dumping of non-permitted items could jeopardize the site’s continued operation.) This will be provided for free to all Douglas County residents and business owners.

The award is given out annually by Rocky Mountain Women in Law Enforcement to one female officer working within the Front Range. “Officer Albergotti provides outstanding service for the depart-ment,” said Acting Police Chief John Anderson. “She’s a dedi-cated officer and well respected by her peers. Our community should be proud…to have officers like ours recognized almost back-to-back by a statewide organization.” Albergotti was selected among many nominees for the annual award based on her extraordinary example and her work performance, including ‘Exceptional Valor’ and ‘Exceptional Achievement’. She has served with the Castle Rock Police Department for the past three years. Prior to that, she was with the Denver Police Department. Albergotti was instrumental in a recent marijuana bust, the largest of its kind in Castle Rock. She also single-handedly captured a suspect after a theft had just occurred and before backup arrived. Click on the various icons on the map to see the crimes that have occurred, or the sex offenders living in your neighborhood. Residents will find a specific address and, in the case of sex offenders, a photo. By next season, the pool will look completely different, and it will be poised for another 30 to 40 years of community enjoyment. Town Council approved a contract not to exceed $1.67 million with MW Golden Constructors for reconstruction and expansion of Burgess Pool at 22 N. Gilbert Street. Construction will be completed in time for the 2012 swim season.

A new, 3,998-square-foot pool with zero-depth entry, sprayers, a toddler slide, a current channel and underwater seating will be constructed, and a 20-foot slide will replace the current 12-foot slide, taking the pool’s capacity from 173 to 300. A 20-foot Funbrella, a shade sail, and 10 tables with umbrellas will create more shade on the new pool deck – something resi-dents requested in the planning stages for this project. The current bathhouse will be reconstructed to include a new entry way, men’s, women’s and family locker rooms and a multipur-pose/birthday party room. The multipurpose room is being added to extend facility use and to increase the revenue that the facility will bring. The room will be available for rental to organizations such as scouts, HOAs, and recreation activities. Burgess Pool is named for late Castle Rock resident Charles Bur-gess, who donated $30,000 of his estate toward its construction. The last renovation to the pool was in 1994. Plum Creek Water Purification Facility Construction Set to Begin Plum Creek Water Purification Facility Construction Set to Begin Plum Creek Water Purification Facility Construction Set to Begin Plum Creek Water Purification Facility Construction Set to Begin Town Council recently awarded a construction contract to Moltz Construction, Inc., Salida, Colo., who will begin construction of the Plum Creek Water Purification Facility in November. When this facility begins operation in 2013, the Town will transition from a mostly nonrenewable water supply to 35 to 40 percent renewable water. The Plum Creek Water Purification Facility will enable the Town to collect and treat water, which will provide a renewable and sustainable supply for the Town. Renewable water sources in-clude water rights on East and West Plum Creek; reclaimable water discharged to East Plum Creek; lawn irrigation return flows; and future imported surface water. The water purification facility will have an initial treatment capacity of four million gallons per day and will be expandable to 12 million gallons per day in the future. The average Castle Rock household uses an average of 400 gallons per day, which means this facility will produce enough water to supply 10,000 homes per day. The Water Department budgeted $22.6 million for the entire project, including wells and pipelines. This facility comprises just one component of the Town’s Legacy Water Projects – the goal of which is to transition the Town to 75 percent renewable water by the time it is built out. All of the Town’s water currently comes from nonrenewable wells. Construction of the Plum Creek Water Purification Facility is planned to be complete by March 2013. Ginny Wainright moved to Douglas County in 1993, moved away twice to live in Arkansas and Arizona, and then decided that “snow was better than those inferno summers”!! Ginny has always enjoyed smaller towns and when she found Castle Rock, she knew she had found a home. She says there is a sense of pride, ownership and connection in Castle Rock that you don’t feel living in the suburbs. Ginny says Castle Rock has all the advantages of a smaller community and yet there is easy access to the “big city. On October 7th, the class met in Louviers to learn about the history of Douglas County and also the abundance of open space in the county. We think of history as being in the past, yet we are all in the process of making history; both our own history and that of our communities. Great communities don’t happen by chance, overnight, or by themselves, we create them by guiding change. The Leadership Class toured Douglas County in search of some of the 46,000 acres of open space. Of the 46,000 acres, approximately 13,000 acres are owned by the County with over 50 miles of trails accessible to the public. The sizes of the parcels of land protected by the open space program include the largest, Greenland Ranch (17,000 acres). Douglas County seeks to protect open space by accom-plishing a variety of conservation objectives, including the preservation of important wildlife habitat and movement corridors; perpetuation of the County’s rural landscape and agricultural heritage; creation of community buffers; protection of scenic views, historic properties, and ar-cheological resources; and enhancement of recreational and educational opportunities. Douglas County would be happy to accommodate organ-ized groups who would like an interpretive hike on open space property or see a Power Point presentation regard-ing open space.
