U13 Hurling
Our U13 hurlers played neighbours Bandon in Brinny
on Monday evening. Valleys started well getting an
early goal and although our lads were on top
throughout the first half this was not reflected on the
scoreboard. Coming up to half time Valleys led 1-04 to
0-02 but a scoring burst late in the half yielded 1-02
with a point being Bandon’s sole reply giving our lads
a half time lead, Valley Rovers 2-06 Bandon 0-03.
Valleys started the second half with a goal and a point.
Bandon did get in for a goal but our lads replied with
2-01 giving Valleys a comfortable lead 5-08 to 1-04.
Bandon took control at this stage and scored 1-03
without reply. However, our lads rallied again and

U11 Hurling Valley Rovers U11 hurlers travelled to Clonakility last
Thursday evening to take on the local team. Valley
Rovers had 25 players and fielded two teams. One team
was victorious and the other team was defeated on the
night but overall the lads performed very well.
We also have had two new players join us recently in
Robert Hall and Conor Quinn. We are delighted to have
them on board and any other child born in 2008 that
would like to play is most welcome. Remember Sean Og
O’Halpin never held a hurley until he was 11 and he
wasn’t half bad!
Players involved against Clonakility were
Team 1: Rubhan McCarthy, Kyle Burke, Mark Hurley,
Charlie Lynch, Eoghan Galgey, Jack Le Blanc, Lewis
Linehan, Daniel O’Donovan, Sam Barry, Fionn Lucey,
Daniel Holland & Donnacha Lynch.
Team 2: Conor McGregor, Daniel Hyde, Liam
O’Donovan, Matthew Humphries, Michael Croke, Harry
McCourt, Paul Cremin, Jack McCarthy (Innishannon),
Sean O’Riordan, Jack Healy, Jack McCarthy (Castlelack),
Robert Hall & Tomas O’Riordan.
U10 Hurling
On Saturday, May 25th the sun was shining in Brinny as
the U10 hurlers welcomed Bandon as visitors. Valley
Rovers coaching team provided a history lesson of the
intense rivalry that existed for many decades between
Bandon and Valley Rovers. Historically, Bandon's
underage hurlers always had the upper hand
throughout the 80's and 90's offering Valley's
numerous lessons in the finer aspects of hurling. But
times have changed and the new crop of hurlers for
Valley Rovers offer a bright future. The U10 team
approached this match brimming with confidence
after recent strong performances. Part of the warm-up
routine even involved carefully reviewing a video of
Diarmuid O'Sullivan's famous shoulder charge and
point against Limerick from 2001. With that
inspirational score from 'The Rock' in mind, the team
were primed for the contest and eager to continue
their winning ways.
Valley Rovers weren't long settling into their stride.
Ben Sharpless demonstrated the power and control he
can bring to defence. Mark Dinneen, Charlie Kelleher
Barry and Aaron Broderick displayed speed and
dynamism that Bandon struggled to contain. Dylan
l'Estrange and Eanna Burke were imperious in the
centre of the field again as that partnership grows
ever stronger. Conor Ryan put in a great performance
despite a niggling injury and Conor O'Mahony played
his best game to date. Sean Platt also illustrated he
can bring the same powerful play to the hurling field
as he has been doing in football recently. The energy
levels never dropped as the gap continued to grow.
Bandon never stood a chance given the mood that
Valley Rovers were in so the team marches on after
another excellent outing.

Did you know over 500 children train on the Valley Rovers pitch’s each week. We also hold many match’s for all
age groups across the Juvenile, Adult, Ladies Football and Ladies Camogie clubs on each of our pitch’s every
week. Due to the great demand for pitches, we have encountered difficulties in terms of having available pitch
capacity to meet all the demand that exists. Thanks to the fantastic support of MSD, we have been given more
land to build a third pitch at our Brinny facilities. This will make a huge difference to the club and we are very
grateful to MSD.
This is where we need your help. We need significant funds to build this pitch and we would be very grateful if
you could make a donation.
You can donate on-line. Please go to www.valleyrovers.com and select the juvenile section and registrations
link. Click on the membership link and this will bring you to the donations section. Thank you.

Ladies Football Division 2 League
Valley Rovers played Naomh Abán last Friday night away
in the LGFA Division 2 League. Valleys took the pitch
without a number of players due to exam and County
commitments however the younger players played
excellently particularly in the second half.
Naomh Abán started very strongly with direct ball into
the full forward line which was then followed up by
support from midfield. Valleys backs defended
extremely well however our difficulty in retaining
possession in the second half of the pitch cost us dearly.
After twenty minutes Naomh Abán led by 1.6 to 0.1.
Ellen Fehilly then scored a goal after some good work
from Michelle O’Regan and Grace O’Dwyer. Naomh
Abán then scored a second goal to leave the half-time
score at 2.9 to 1.1.
In the second half Valley’s played much better football
as they retained possession much better. Strong
running by Roisín O’Donovan when she moved out the
field combined with tireless work by Kim Muckian,
Shauna Reilly, Katie Murphy and Niamh Hurley meant
that Valley’s outscored Naomh Abán in the second half
by 1.6 to 1.3 leaving the final score 3.12 to 1.7 to the
home-side.
The scoreboard would have been more favorable had
the Naomh Abán keeper not made two fine saves from
Grace O’Dwyer who was outstanding on the night for
such a young and promising footballer.
Team: Jane Mulvihil, Aine Lynch, Roisín O’Donovan,
Rachel Lordan, Katie Murphy, Sarah O’ Dwyer, Katie
Lynch, Kate Wall, Niamh Hurley, Michelle O’Regan (0.3),
Shaunra Reilliy, Kim Muckian (0.1), Grace O’Dwyer (0.1),
Ellen Fehilly (1.2), Clare O’Dwyer, Cathy O’Donovan

a stiff test for the Rovers girls with St. Catherine’s
showing great skills & movement on the pitch. Valuable
lessons to be learnt however & onwards & upwards

summer go games blitzes this coming Saturday when
they travel over to Ballinhassig. Good luck girls!
