New Management Appointments

CPR & AED Training Sessions

Many of us have been touched by heart disease and stroke, whether directly with a loved one or someone we know. This month, The Jim Pattison Auto Group begins a long-term partnership with Heart & Stroke Foundation in order to support and help save lives in the event of cardiac arrest or heart-related illness.

We will begin a group-wide installation of Automated External Defibrillators (AED) at our dealerships, and provide CPR and AED training for all team members beginning in November. These workshops will be hosted at our dealerships in conjunction with the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Everyone will receive an invitation for these sessions this month. Please return the sign-up sheet to your Heart & Stroke Champion by October 30th.

Cargantuan Sales Event at North Surrey Auto Mall

North Surrey Auto Mall had its biggest sales event ever in September! The event was held September 24th to 27th, and all five dealerships at North Surrey Auto Mall took part in offering special prices on new and used vehicles. The event was themed as “Cargantuan”, and included discounts that promised to beat the most competitive pricing out there. The auto mall was decorated with many yellow balloons, and the Fraser Valley Food Truck Festival was held at the auto mall on the same weekend, bringing 6 food trucks, 4 artisan vendors and even face painting for the kids!

Cavalia’s Odysseo in Winnipeg

The world famous Cavalia brought “Odysseo: The Equestrian Spectacular” to Winnipeg in September, with a Presenting Partnership from The Jim Pattison Group.

Known as the world’s largest touring production, Odysseo is an incredible show featuring equestrian arts, stage arts and high-tech theatrical effects, all combined at a level that is never seen before.

Under the partnership, The Jim Pattison Auto Group and our three Winnipeg dealerships took part in the promotion of Odysseo, with a vehicle display at the show’s grand entrance, promotional ticket giveaways, and exclusive access. The display vehicles included the latest Toyota and Subaru models decaled in artistic horse-inspired designs. Odysseo is touring in Winnipeg until end of October, so make sure you check it out if you’re in town!

Jim Pattison Volvo of Surrey Goes to Drop Zone

In September, Jim Pattison Volvo of Surrey once again took part in sponsoring the Easter Seals Vancouver Drop Zone! The event is incredible, as it takes you over the top and down the side of a 20-storey office building in Downtown Vancouver! Participants must raise a minimum of $1,000 in support of Easter Seals, which supports kids living with disability and helps send these kids to summer camp.

Specialty Subaru in North Vancouver was acquired by the Auto Group on September 1st, 2015 and has been rebranded as Jim Pattison Subaru Northshore. Volvo Owners Club Gathering at Cates Park

The Volvo Club of British Columbia held their Annual General Meeting on September 26th with a picnic at Cates Park in North Vancouver. The annual event gathers Volvo owners and enthusiasts for a day of celebration, and is a showcase of many current and vintage Volvo models brought together by their owners. Jim Pattison Volvo of North Vancouver was on scene to support the club’s efforts by bringing a 2015 XC60 T5 to display. Christopher Sage, David Bremsak and his 2 daughters, and Ted Bostedt also attended and mingled with many of the club members, many of which are loyal customers to our Jim Pattison Volvo of North Vancouver dealership.

This month, 2 of our dealerships are dedicating their efforts to raising awareness and support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

At Jim Pattison Toyota Downtown, staff are wearing Breast Cancer Awareness t-shirts and ribbons every Friday, and the Toyota flags above the dealership exterior have been changed to pink.

At Jim Pattison Volvo of Surrey, donation boxes are set up throughout the dealership, and a barbecue lunch will be held on October 15th to raise funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

A Story from a Fellow Colleague

One of our dear colleagues would like to share her story with breast cancer, and the importance of donating to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

“I had my last of many surgeries in October 2011. I was 46 when I was diagnosed and was completely shocked. I have

some added things that I found out. BC is THE best place to live in Canada if you have Breast Cancer. They have the best research and development in providing help for cancer patients. I was told by my oncologist that he believed that the stats would be revised soon to 1 in 7 women get breast cancer in their lifetime.

I needed to take a certain drug every three weeks for a year. The cost of this drug (not including the supplies to administer it or the nurses to do so) was in excess of $70,000. At the time, this drug was not covered in Alberta or many of the provinces in Canada. Each time I went to get chemo, I was told that the drugs they were administering were approximately $5,000.00 per treatment. I was treated every three weeks for eight months. Each treatment is made up only after you reach the cancer center because of cost and because they mix it according to your weight. There are many types of Breast Cancer and each treatment is unique and designed only for that specific person. Our BC Medical covers the cost of MRI’s, CAT scans, Bone Scans, Surgeries and

Reconstruction, Full Bloodwork every three weeks, biopsies, “ports” put in and taken out to save your veins while you are on treatment, Oncologist visits, follow up drugs for the 10-20 years that you might need them and genetic testing/counselling to see if you are a genetic carrier of the disease. If you are positive, it also covers genetic testing for immediate family.

I had six surgeries between August 2009 and October 2011. My husband and I did quick math one day and estimated that over $350,000 was spent on me. This does not include the medication for pain or nausea that was also expensive. The BC Cancer Society puts together classes to teach you how to deal with your cancer, how to put on makeup (like eyebrows when you lose them), and different ways to deal with being bald. Breast Cancer is one of the most survivable of women’s cancers partly because of people like you who care.”

“I just want drop a brief note regarding Roger Rapske, Parts Manager. He was the most incredible help when my car would not start, leaving me stuck in Thrifty’s parking lot (3rd & Fell) with frozen food and other things to do. I was upset and frustrated as I had no warning problems up until that point. The receptionist explained that the Service Department was closed, but perhaps if anyone was in the Parts department, they could help. Roger was so helpful and a coming influence, first suggesting how I try unlocking the wheel which I was not able to do. He offered when he was able to drive to the lot to see if he could fix it for me. The problem was the key would not turn the starter and unlock (first time the wheel has ever been locked since buying the car 15 years earlier). He then drove back to Toyota with myself and registration to cut a new key. Hallelujah… It worked… Problem solved… My key was worn out (first time I have heard of that). All I can say, Roger made my day... after a whole weekend of Hydro power outage…then the car. He was my saviour and such a fabulous representative for Toyota customer service!! Kudos to Roger!! “I wanted to formally acknowledge the support and excellent work your Assistant Service Manager, Sean, provided me this week on a brake repair. The repair Sean and his Techs undertook actually originated at Calgary Lexus. A road trip through the Rockies in early August revealed problems with braking on the big downhill roads. At times, it was touch and go on how much pressure I could apply as the rotors were banging away like a drum. Fortunately, we reached Canmore without a serious incident. It was late Friday afternoon. I called Calgary Lexus and they responded in an excellent manner in helping me out given they were booked solid for Tuesday, falling after a long weekend. They took delivery of my car at 7:00am Tuesday and helped me get back and forth from our hotel. The car was ready at noon. They were very professional throughout. Unfortunately, a few days after our return from Calgary the brakes started producing a noise. I called Sean and he said come on in and lets have a look. He and his team discovered the rear rotors needed additional work to make them right. The problem determination and resolution was facilitated by Sean and Igor, the Service Advisor in Calgary, going back and forth, discussing the nature of the problem and the remedy. I knew Sean was stretched – he had other booked vehicle work to maneuver around, but in the end both dealerships worked together to produce a satisfactory and safe outcome, and for that they both need to be recognized. One of the reasons I own a Lexus is it’s a superior vehicle in terms of looks, quality and performance. But in the end a car needs back end professionals who deliver quality work and professional leadership, eagerly displayed by Sean this past week. “Every person I have ever dealt with has been caring and gentle. I have never thought of a complaint over care of me or my car. Three people have gone out of their way to care for me: Don Belcourt, Service Advisor, has over the years, given me extremely good service. He has a way of explaining car care to me so that I understand and feel confident. Even when my 2001 Prius was failing miserably, Don went out of his way several times to keep me going that last week when I really needed the car, until he needed to give me the bad news that my 15 year old Hybrid battery was finished. He was so kind about the old car and then in his pleasure that I was able to have a new car. Just knowing he is there for support and advice in going forward does help me. I know if I have any concerns, he will do his best to be helpful. I am grateful for Perry Karimi, Lease Portfolio Manager and Aly Ladak, Financial Services Manager. Perry and Aly, together managed to get me financing and into the new Prius C. They had not much to work with. I had no credit report available to them because for ten years I have paid cash for absolutely everything other than the Prius 2001 that I leased and bought, a last payment being made in February of 2008. They pursued and based on that excellent record with Toyota in the East and my service record in North Van, I got financing. They did this with extremely good treatment of me and it was done in one day, just because they believed in me. I won’t let them down. Lastly, I want to say that the service department, managed by Ian Wilson, is a best place in my view to get car service. Each client is given the time needed, never rushed. It is always, in my experience, a place of friendly expertise that one can count on. Also, I appreciate the appointment times to suit a person’s personal schedule, rather than everyone dropping their cars off in the morning and hoping for the best as happened in places I formerly went to for service. - Daisy Heisler

“I went to Richmond Toyota where I was treated like an inconvenience. Then I went to Broadway and was given friendly, open, honest, outstanding service. I was provided with all the information I needed to make a decision (eg. the exact amount my trade in was worth, not an estimated amount; the cash back incentive; etc.) Daren was a huge help and very patient. He went through every single aspect of the car and once I bought it, he helped me set it up (eg. connecting my phone to the bluetooth, radio stations, etc. - I’m extremely non-tech savvy). Doug and Anna in Finance were also very pleasant and friendly to deal with and they too provided me with everything I needed to know to make informed decisions about warranty - with non-pressure. The insurance people were also very friendly and knowledgeable and told me how to save a bunch of money on a different car I own. I highly recommend using this dealership. “I have (since 2009) been a customer of the Service Department of Jim Pattison Hyundai in Coquitlam. I find their service to be exceptional! Under their care, my Hyundai Santa Fe has just passed 300,000 km, and is still going strong. Their service assessments are honest and thoughtful... telling me when I need to do something, alerting me on the occasions when there was a Hyundai service notice, and (refreshingly) letting me know when I think I need something done, that I do not need to do. Because the Service Department takes such good care of my car, I haven’t had the need of the Sales Department, but when I do, I know David Kang, who was formerly the Jim Pattison Hyundai Service Manager, will look after my needs, as he has always done. The staff are friendly, courteous and helpful, with none of the “bury you in techno-babble and upsell me with fear” that I experienced at other service departments, before 2009. For a guy who works on a computer, it isn’t *AS* important as the service work itself, but Jim Pattison Hyundai has a great customer waiting area, with free coffee... a large TV, and (most important to me) a work area with lots of power plugs and a strong wifi signal. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Jim Pattison Hyundai to anyone looking to buy a car, or who needs service for their Hyundai vehicle!” - Bob G.
