Our theme for October is “City Life, Country Life”.
The children will investigate the following:
CITY LIFE
Throughout this investigation, we will talk about the differences and similarities between city life
and rural life. The teachers will talk about the people, culture, and pace of life. This will be a basis
for cultural understanding of how others live around the country.
HARVEST TIME During this investigation, the kids will explore all about farming. Who runs the
farm? What animals live on the farm? What are the benefits of a farm? And what food grows on a farm?
FARM ANIMALS
We will be going into more detail on what animals we find on the farm. What do the animals provide us and why are they important? For our younger friends, we will
learn sign language to identify the animals and also animal sounds.
ZOO ANIMALS How are zoo animals different than animals we find on the farm? During this investigation the children will learn how to be a zookeeper and why they are important to the zoo. They
will also learn about different animal habitats.
ANIMAL HABITATS Jumping off of what they learn about farm and zoo animals, the kids will
learn all about animal habitats. They will learn where in the world you can find different animals and why they have to live there. .
FIRE SAFETY Fire Prevention Week is in October! During this investigation, the kids will be
reviewing fire safety. They will learn what to do if they encounter fire and matches and how to call 9-1-1.
HALLOWEEN We love Halloween at Winwood! During this unit, the kids will have fun exploring Halloween
through songs, books, stories, and costumes. The teachers will go over the rules and safety aspects of trick or treating.
