Bi-Weekly LIX No. 6, April 6, 2016 faith friendship fellowship followership fruitfulness www.firstsayyes.com At the wailing wall in Jerusa- lem, it is not uncommon to see people with a box tied to their foreheads. It is about 2” x 2.” It has Scripture in it. It is worn as a reminder to keep God’s Word on your mind— literally. Throughout the Bible we read passages encouraging us to plant the Word of God in our mind and heart. And while it might be a bit far for us to go around wearing a box tied to our head, the idea of having God’s Word on our mind and in our heart is so important. It isn’t about the volume of Scripture we read, but the truth of Scripture we live. When we act according to God’s Word we are quick to forgive. We are faithful to love the unlovable (and sometimes it is acknowledging we are the unlovable). We are aware that this amazing gift of Scripture isn’t so we can beat people over the head or act superior. It is a message from God on how we are to live and act and find “our being” in Him. When the Word of God is planted in us, it starts to spring up in surprising ways. Our words become more com- passionate. Our actions are less self-centered and more “other-centered.” Putting God’s Word in us will bear a fruit of His action coming out FirsT of us. There is a saying that goes something like, “I’m not yet what I’m going to be, but praise God, I’m not what I used to be!” When His Word is in our hearts and minds, it starts to pour out of our mouths. In fact, you learn a lot about what is in a person by listen- ing to what comes out of them. If we speak fear, or failure or hope or joy, you can bet it comes from some- where inside of us. I love being around hopeful people. I love seeing people who live out their potential by getting up and trying again. I love sharing life with people who not only know Jesus is The Way, The Truth and The Life, but they are making Him their way, truth, and life. Too often the things we put in boxes are there to be for- gotten or packed away for another day. Maybe it is less about tying Scriptures in boxes to our heads and more about letting the words of God’s book, the Bible, shape our every thing. See you at the “shaping place” this weekend. ~jimd.
