COMPANY PROFILE
HMT is one of the leading public sector companies, in India, HMT I, II Bangalore
plant was inaugurated in 1953 by PANDIT JAWAHARLAL NEHRU
It has 16 manufacturing units spread over 10 states, 24 divisions and 29,000 employees
in 10 different states
HMT has an annual turnover of Rs. 4692 lakhs.
HMT produces a wide range of products ranging from machine tools, watches,
agricultural, machinery and general Engineering products.
The machine tools division has a number of manufacturing units located at various
centers, they are,
1. Bangalore HMT machine tools I & II
2. Hyderabad HMT machine tools

HMT has countrywide sales and services network resulting in greater
opportunities, for further growth and expansion.
INDIA is one of the largest tractor manufacturer in the worldwide, and HMT is
the major supplier of machine tools to the tractor manufacturers like PUNJAB
TRACTORS, INTERNATIONAL TRACTORS LTD.
THREATS
Severe competition from both domestic and as well as the international market.
HMT is lagging behind in the technology as compared to MNC`s, who have
recently entered into Indian market obsolescence of tecnology .
Increasing competition with entry of new manufacturers making low cost
products.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The present study was undertaken to find about customer perception towards HMT Product
and to know various functional area of management.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
To study the customer perception towards HMT products.
To give valuable suggestions to the organization.
SAMPLE SIZE:
40 Customers
FINDINGS
70% of customers said that Quality was an important factor which influence
them to buy HMT products.
HMT products were rated as very good by 50% of the respondents post-
purchase.
It is found that the toughest competitors of HMT are BHEL, ASKAR MICRON-
Mysore-Turning Machines, Lakshmi machine tools Coimbatore.
The performance of the product quality is found to be important determinant of
the success.
Quality and performance were the key factors which made customers to
repurchase the products.
45% of the customers have given 4 star rating to the overall performance and
service of HMT.
SUGGESTIONS
The company should concentrate more to improve the quality and
appearance of the product.
The company should update its technology and reduce price as to compete
with the superior of competitors
The overall service of the company should be improved to compete with
other companies.
Since losses are recorded, since 15 years productivity policy of the
company should be reframed.
CONCLUSION
As an intern I had enriching experience. I learnt many things by just being a part of the team during discussions.
Quality and performance has enabled HMT-Machine Tools Ltd to attract leading companies like Bajaj Auto, TVS, Ashok Leyland, Railway, Steel Sector, Power Plants, Cement Industries, General Engineering Industry and other customer.
The company has own website which provides up to date information regarding launching of new products so that customers could get hands on information, well on time.
