Assembly Poll: Why Osun Must Vote APC – APCTHe all progressives Congress (apC) in the

state of Osun has warned that the state will be at risk of halting the remarkable development

it has experienced in the last four years, if it allows any candidate of the peoples democratic party to become a member of the state House of assembly.

This, the APC said, is because the PDP in Osun, a t t h e J o n a t h a n - l e d Federa l Governmen t are sworn enemies of the nature and scope of the socio-economic a n d i n f r a s t r u c t u r a l development which the Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesolaia-led APC government has

effected in the state. “Any PDP candidate in

the House of Assembly therefore, will have only one mission; to frustrate and stall whatever project Ogbeni plans to implement for the benefit of the people of the state. According to

the APC, since 2011, the PDP had been boasting that it would reverse all the gains the people of this state have made within the last four years under the APC governance, if it had won the governorship election, but PDP lost.

“Then they resorted to Federal might to starve the state of funds, to frustrate a lot of projects, which were on-going. But God, in His absolute mercy, used the Nigerian people to vote out the Goodluck Jonathan-led

PDP government from power.

“Now, with Buhari and the APC set to take power in Abuja, Osun’s fortune will definitely change for the better. To then become careless and allow any PDP candidate into the State House of Assembly will amount to ingratitude to God, and inadvertent choice to jeopardise the future of the state”, the APC declared. “Osun should not allow itself to make that kind of tragic

mistake. “Every vote for the PDP

will not only be wasted, it will be seen as a rejection of the economic and special progress, and the developments which the APC has effected in the last four years”, the APC said.

The party added that Osun cannot afford to lose the Aregbesola-inspired development, which has put the state on the world map.

The APC stated this in a statement by its spokesman, Barrister Kunle Oyatomi, in Osogbo, while he urged the people of Osun to repeat the feat of 2011 by returning all

APC candidates to the State House of Assembly, so that there will be no PDP obstacle to the smooth running of government, the same way that it has happened in the last four years.

“United against evil, Osun wi l l s tand and progress in spite of PDP terror,” the APC said, while it encouraged voters to turn out en-masse to finally end the PDP scourge.

SSG, CoS, Yusuff Task Buhari On DevelopmentTHe secretary to the Government of the state

of Osun (ssG), alhaji Moshood adeoti, has tasked the Nigeria’s president-elect, General

Muhammad Buhari (rtd), to ensure provision of employments, qualitative education and improve power generation.

Adeoti stated this in Osogbo, the state capital, recently while reacting to the victory of the All Progressives Congress ( A P C ) i n t h e j u s t -concluded presidential and National Assembly elections, urging the President-elect to work assiduously to reposition the nation for economic development.

Adeoti noted that the APC, being a progressive party, is a solution to many challenges confronting the nation, adding that the party would adopt the developmental model of the State of Osun with a view to transforming the entire nation.

He expressed optimism that General Buhari (rtd) would bring his age-long experience to bear in public administration, especially in the management of human and mater ia l resources.

Adeot i l auded the Independent National Electoral Commission

(INEC) for its ingenuity a n d c o m m i t m e n t towards sanitizing the electoral system and commended President Goodluck Jonathan for demonstrating high sense of s ta tesmanship by conceding defeat before the announcement of final result.

He called on Nigerians to support the president-e l e c t i n h i s b i d t o transform the country to enviable height through laudable people-oriented programmes and policies.

Also, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, said the victory of General Muhammad Buhari (rtd) was a strong indication that Nigerians were in dire need of positive change.

Oyetola, who expressed confidence that Buhari has the political strength and intellectual base to fix the nation’s multi-dimensional challenges, congratulated Nigerians for making the right

dec i s ion capab le o f consolidating the nation’s democracy.

He added that the step had shown that Nigeria has come of age in electoral process and democratic governance, saying APC would further strengthen the system and make it the best in the world.

Jonathan Had No Choice Other Than Accepting Defeat - AVG BossTHe Chairman, aregbesola Victory Group

(aVG), alhaji Wahab ademola, has said president Goodluck Jonathan had no choice

other than to accept the outcome of the March 28 presidential election, saying Nigerians have clearly stated what they wanted through ballots.

H e c o m m e n d e d President Jonathan for being manly enough to quickly come out to accept defeat, saying this has saved him and the entire country from embarassment.

According to him, the result of the election was a clear testimony

The AVG boss said the outcome of the election was an evidence that democracy has come to stay in Nigeria, saying the change in government would further deepen Nigeria’s democracy.

“I commend him for being manly enough to accept defeat without any delay, by this he has demonstrated good virtue,

at least, for once, rather than being embarrassed out of power”, he added.

He further noted that with the antecedents of Buhari, he would not condone cor rup t ion and insecurity among other things, noting that this would facilitate the

THe speaker of state of Osun House of assembly, Honourable Najeem salaam, has charged religious leaders of all faith,

particularly of Christianity, to preach and act dictates of God without compromising them by bad leaders.

In an Easter message issued by his Press Secretary, Mr. Goke Butika, Salaam stressed that the courage, honesty and divine calmness o f a n d t h e d i v i n e attributes of the men of God who refused to be compromised should be emulated by all men of faith.

He urged religious leaders to draw the line between politics and religion, saying any attempt to introduce religion into politics might drag the names of the religion leaders in the mud.

“Men of faith must draw a line between politics and religion, as any attempt to use religion as a tool of politics would expose the nation’s fault lines and perennial tension.

“ O u r r e l i g i o u s leaders must be wary of politicians who would want to use every means, including religion, to ach ieve the i r a ims without thinking about the consequences of their actions.

Man Removes Lover’s Breast, Dumps Her In Pit ToiletBy FraNCis ezediuNO

deTeCTiVes from Osun state pol ice Command have exhumed the remains of a 19-year-old girl, Bilikisu, from a pit-toilet at

abaja Compound, Kola Balogun area of Osogbo, the state capital.

A c c o r d i n g t o e y e witnesses, a middle-aged man, simply identified as Soji, dumped the corpse in the pit-toilet.

It was also gathered that Bilikisu was Soji’s girlfriend for over two years.

Soji, who is now at large, was said to have removed Bilikisu’s breasts before dumping the remains of the girl in the pit-toilet, although this claim could not be confirmed as at press time.

Residents of the area maintained that they knew Bilikisu as Soji’s girlfriend and that the duo always engaged in incessant fights.

Well-wishers celebrated with Vice President-elect, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, after InEC Chairman declared General Muahhamadu Buhari and Osinbajo as the winners of the 2015 Presidential general election recently.

Badmus, LAUTECH Congratulate Buhari, AregbesolaBy KeHiNde ayaNTuNJi

LadOKe akintola university Teaching Hospital, (LauTeCH) and the asiwaju Muslumi of yorubaland, alhaji Khamis Olatunde Badmus,

have added their voice in congaratulating the all progressives Congress (apC) candidate and president-elect, General Muhamadu Buhari (rtd).

Chief Badmus described the victory of the President-elect in the just-concluded presidential election as a divine one and should be dedicated to God.

A s ta tement by h i s Special Assistant on Media Affairs, Alhaji Dawood Ajetunmobi, Badmus urged the president-elect to hit the ground running with ideas that will make him give the people of Nigeria a responsible and responsive government come May 29, 2015.

This, according to him, will justify the huge hope that Nigerians who are yearning for change in their socio-political and economic lives have invested in him by entrusting him with their mandate.

He said: “There is no doubt that General Buahri’s victory is the will of God given the fact that this is the first time in the history of our nation that an opposition party will unseat the ruling party in a presidential election.

“Although, the victory calls for celebration but the exigency of the time we are does not avail us the luxury of unbridled celebration, the People’s General should therefore roll up his sleeves and usher in dawn of new era and wind of change in the country.”

He also commended the role played by the Chairman of INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega and his resilience during and after the poll, which contributed in no small measure to the free and fair election the country enjoys.

“The boss of the nation’s electoral umpire, Professor Jega, should be commended f o r t h e u n e q u a l l e d leadership he demonstrated, most especially during the

collation of the results of the election and the way he handled Elder Godsday Orubebe’s plan to scuttle the electoral process.

“The calmness with which

Jega reacted to Orubebe’s vituperation was a singular thing that saved the process. If he had reacted otherwise, perhaps, Nigeria would have been boiling now because the announcement would have been stalled. Nigerians owe a lot to Jega for this,” he added.

He also commended P r e s i d e n t G o o d l u c k Jonathan for conceding defeat as expected of a good

sportsman.‘’The president’s gesture

is highly commendable. I see it as a master stroke for breaking the back of those who would have started fomenting trouble immediately the winner is declared. This is good for the polity. Nigeria is the overall winner”.

H e s a i d : “ Wi t h a progressive government now at the centre and like minds to relate with on issues of developments, it is our hope that the era of faster development is now here in our dear state in which we know LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo will continue to be a visible beneficiary.”

Buhari’s Victory Celebration: Police Arrest PDP Coffin In OsogboBy KeHiNde ayaNTuNJi

investigation division (Cid) of the state police Command arrested a coffin being carried across the city to mark what they described as the “demise of the peoples democratic party (pdp)”.

The crowd in the i r h u n d r e d s w i t h d r u m sets, while well-kitted undertakers were carrying decorated wooden coffin, wrapped with PDP flag and

stickers, dancing round the major streets of the state capital.

They started from the popular Igbona Market in Osogbo to Oluode, Fagbewesa, Ola-Iya, where

the Poilce team in a Toyota Hilux van accosted them to avoid breach of law and order.

The undertakers were displaying the coffin with all manner of acrobatics, while the passers-by were also hailing them and the crowd continued to increase in number, as they danced round the city.

Police however, turned against the proccession at Oke-fia, obstructed the undertakers and seized the

coffin, which was later taken to the State Police Command.

O n e o f t h e p o l i c e officers, who accosted the undertakers, said: “We are not here to arrest anybody. You can continue with your jubilation but there is an instruction to seize this coffin. You cannot carry it beyond this place.”

Despite the resistance by the crowd, the police successfully drove the coffin away.

The leader of the police team, who refused to disclose his identity, said they seized the coffin to prevent attack from the opposition party, saying the manner with which the jubilant crowd conducted themselves might provoke violence.

Oladele Adeola, one of the organizers of the possession, said they are celebrating the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and President-elect, General Muhamadu Buhari (rtd) and to give “ PDP a befitting burial”.

H e s a i d : “ We a r e celebrating the liberation of Nigerians from the PDP bondage of 16 years. March 28 election has marked the extinction of PDP in Nigeria. We are so confident that the government of the people has arrived.”

On the introduction of coffin to their show of support for the president-elect, Adeola said: “because of the spor t smanship character displayed by P r e s i d e n t G o o d l u c k Jonathan by conceding defeat, we decided to give the PDP a befitting burial with expensive coffin and undertakers.”

The jubilant crowd, according to Adeola, was heading to Nelson Mandela Freedom Park for the

Countdown To New Nigeria Begins - APCTHe all progressives Congress (apC) has said with

the victory of its presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) and his running mate,

professor Oluyemi Osinbajo, countdown to new Nigeria has indeed begun.

The party also said Buhari’s victory signaled the dawn of a new era for Nigeria, which, it said, would definitely g u a r a n t e e e c o n o m i c breakthrough, social justice, institutional strengthening and the rule of law in all facets of life.

In a statement by its National Vice Chairman (South West), Chief Pius Akinyelure, the party assured Nigerians across all divides that the beginning of new Nigeria, which, he said, they all desired and toiled for, “has finally come.”

Akinyelure noted that Buhari’s emergence in the just-concluded presidential election is no doubt, a defining moment in Nigeria’s recent

history, while his victory, too, is for all citizens of Nigeria irrespective of party, race and religion.

“Given what happened during the electioneering, Buhari’s victory signals the dawn of a new era for Nigeria. It also indicates the beginning of new Nigeria, which we have all toiled to realise day and night through ballots and which they have long yearned to see after a 16-year reign of impunity in our fatherland.”

However, Akinyelure said the victory at the poll was just a phase in the quest for a new Nigeria, noting that the task for new Nigeria does not end

at the poll. “We have developed

an inclusive manifesto to respond to diverse socio-economic and poli t ical challenges, which has defined Nigeria as one of the world’s most troubled countries.”

The APC vice chairman, therefore , assured that under the Buhari-Osinbajo administration, the ugly trend of insecurity will be effectively reversed.

Aside , s t rong socio-political order that guarantees p u b l i c s a f e t y w i l l b e established in the North-East and South-South so much so that it will create an enabling environment for investments.

“The surging unemployed p o p u l a t i o n w i l l b e meaningfully engaged with a view to creating wealth across divides and reversing trends that lead to the explosion of our fatherland. The unemployment rate

currently put at 29 per cent will be stemmed with the implementation of different programmes we have already developed.

“ A l s o , t h e r e i s a n assurance that institutions will be strengthened; the ru le of law respected; human rights guaranteed; equal opportunities assured, irrespective of political affiliation and social justice will be ensured in all parts of the country in line with our manifesto. We will all witness the dawn of a new Nigeria that we all desire.”

T h e A P C c h i e f t a i n , however, said nothing much could be done without the support of all Nigerians across all geo-political zones in the country, thereby calling all stakeholders, irrespective of political leanings, to make construct ive and meaningful input to the forthcoming Buhari-Osinbajo

administration for the love of Nigeria.

“We need the support of all Nigerians to rebuild Nigeria. We need constructive input from all change agents to paddle the ship of Nigeria. We need prayers of all our fellow countrymen to lift up our fatherland to its deserved place among the black nations in the world and in the comity of nations. We covet the support of Nigerians at home and in diaspora to bring about restoration that will herald new Nigeria,”he stressed.

Buhari,Tinubu And The New National Majority

continued from pg1

new national majority. a victory for the all progressives Congress (apC) will, in effect, set a new template different in large measures from what we have seen since the ‘restoration` of democracy in 1999.

it is understandable that the old post-1999 order has run its course. This is not surprising. For in spite of record earnings from crude oil sales, the much anticipated ‘dividends of democracy’ has turned out to be a mirage. in many ways the new national majority being put into play is actually a way of slaying the beast of the often cited ‘Nigeria paradox’. The conventional wisdom defines this paradox as the puzzling inability to translate record oil earnings into, at least, a marginal increase in living standards. On the part of the Nigerian people, expectations have been quite minimal. This is why the disappointment has been so very, painfully pronounced.

Kudos have to be given to those who have, against the odds, put together what is transmitting from a conventional ‘opposition’ to a

government-in-waiting. it is quite an achievement as well as a saving grace for our somewhat fragile democracy. The alternative to this would have been a response at variance with democracy. in a multi- ethnic, multi-religious society, this sort of reaction would have been disastrous. Those who provided an alternative deserve all the kudos.

For the valiant efforts of Buhari, Tinubu, Okorocha, amaechi, atiku and co, two choices now face the republic. it is either we continue on the path of under-achievement and disappointed expectations or we change course. Changing course means a decisive and irreversible break with a dismal past. There is no middle path.

The shift also comes at a time of declining oil income.

For this reason, a new national majority will be required to unite the progressive, national and democratic forces and tendencies behind a banner of national reconstruction and re- generation in order to save the republic. This is imperative because the economic outlook is unfavourable.

The outgoing pdp has not only mounted the most divisive election in Nigeria’s political history, it is also at the tail end carrying out a scourged earth policy. in the process, we have

gone from wholesale to retail looting. The outlook is dire!

Fac ing the future means the construction of a new unifying national ethos to effect the re-adjustment that must be done. Capital has to be redirected from consumption into production. Luckily, or is it providentially, we have in GMB the man with the fiscal rectitude to do so.

GMB terrifies the outgoing ancient administration precisely because of this. The days of financial lawlessness will be put behind us. Frankly, in our present situation, there is no other alternative. a new national majority will also ensure that the country develops a real market-propelled economy.

On the contrary, what the out-going administration promotes is croynism. This sort of system was denounced by the great afrobeat exponent, the late Fela anikulapo-Kuti as ‘paddy, paddy’ government. The system has worked hand in glove with corruption to stifle the nation’s economy.

By promoting sweetheart deals and preferential treatment to a favoured few in the corridors of power, costs have been skewed against the consumer and competition stifled. Anticipated new pro-competition and anti-trust laws and a strong regulatory body will soon put an

end to this debilitation. For example, no competition authority no matter how incompetent, can conceivably tolerate the corruption-induced use of import duty waivers. since these waivers have been depriving the country of tax revenues and stifling competition, this will be a real gain.

The dying gasp of the old order is predictably vicious. it has to be for it signals the end of unearned privileges fuelled by a sense of entitlement. This has denied the majority of their economic rights and led to increasing mass poverty.

a new opportunity for national rebirth beckons it presents an opportunity to build through what is in essence an historic compromise a new society. We should seize this opportunity with both hands and not once again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Omisore Doesn’t Have Any Case IT is no more news

t h a t t h e g o v e r n o r s h i p

e l e c t i o n a p p e a l filed by the Peoples Democra t i c Pa r ty (PDP) and its candidate Iyiola Omisore, over the August 9, 2014 governorship election in the State of Osun at the Court of Appeal in Akure has finally affirmed the validity of Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s victory at the poll. Rational thinkers will nod in affirmation in favour of such pronouncement because Aregbesola was massively voted for.

Prior to this moment, if any party had rigged the election, it was that party that deployed

over 75,000 security agents comprising Nigerian Army, DSS, and Police and some of these evil messengers were not different from hired killers and armed robbers. Hunting like carnivores, and scaring every of Aregbesola’s

loyalists and himself not excluded, how could the ruling party in the state rigged in the face of the evil messengers?

The gamblers were the shameless groups that celebrated victory ahead of the tribunal

and Court of Appeal pronouncement. With this attitude, the world can see the disgusting set of people, who are hunting for power in the State of Osun. They so much manipulated the psychology of their blind followers, made

them to believe that the Appeal Court will declare Omisore as the winner of August 2014 Osun gubernatorial election.

In the afternoon o f Apr i l 2 , 2015 af ter the appelate court judgment was

delivered, I looked around to see them celebrat ing again, but it was broom that took over all the cities, towns and villages in the state.

This victory is for the people of the State of Osun, who stood firmly behind Aregbesola during the last governorship election and proved some se l f i sh and myopic civil servants and politicians wrong. Some persons also exhibited their hard-heartedness, when they voted against Rauf on the basis of religion, yet , the object ive conscience ruled the day.

I’m Mohammadu Buhari; I’m Reporting For Duty (Part 1)WH E N h i s p o l i t i c a l

opponents had an idea he wanted to be president

after three swings, it didn’t take them too long to turn him into a dumping ground of verbal insults and assaults, and an incinerator of disparaging verbiage. He was a prey and a pawn in the chess-game of Nigeria’s brutish political campaign. They said he was too old, too frail, too weak, too unlearned, too sick-in-the-head, and too sick in the body too. He was branded an Islamic fundamentalist, a friend to terrorists, the grandfather of Boko-Haram, a despot and dictator, who is a maddening misfit in a democracy.

These mean depictions of General Mohammadu Buhari, presidential candidate of the APC, travelled down into the deepest heartlands of Nigeria. The deeper the words journeyed, the deeper the dislike and turn-off against his candidacy in strategic cities. His thin but fortified body swung through the length and breadth of Nigeria with charming chutzpah. From the North to the South, to friendly places and hateful arenas, he campaigned with agility and bravado. Though taciturn and a man of few words, he was still able to convince over 15 million voters in last Saturday’s election that he was the real deal as he pushed to victory against a weakened and bruised sitting President Goodluck Jonathan holding the flag for the PDP. That particular season, however, is now behind us. The new Sheriff-in-town is the retired General; and he is now warming up to report for duty in less than two months because his time has come. There is no stopping a man whose time has come.

Buhari was not the only winner in Last Saturday’s election; President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was too. Some of us may have disagreed with the president in many ways politically, but in all of my treatises I have always mentioned him as a good man. His personality obviously may be too nice for the weird and crazy big-stage Nigerian politics, where mischievous, waggish and wicked players have turned governance into an amphitheatre of depravity and degeneracy replete with surreal stratagems. Goodluck may not be in the league of the Nelson Mandelas of this world, but even in defeat, we acknowledge that he has done his best for Nigeria. And the name Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will forever be etched in the spines of the nation’s history. I salute him.

I have mentioned severally in my published opinions that the CHANGE movement across this nation is beyond one man. It is beyond a few agenda-driven people, and beyond a political party. This movement is about Nigerians, who are slowly prepping up to

hold public officials accountable for their deeds and misdeeds while in office. Last Saturday’s election victory is also beyond Buhari or Vice-President-elect Yemi Osinbajo, it is a triumph for the people, whose dwelling places have for a while been in the path of a killer-cyclone of everything bad and anomic about government in Nigeria.

It is a triumph for the people living in the slums of Yenagoa and Oloibiri, and the impoverished people in the hamlet of Imesi-Ile. It is a win for the disease-ravaged Nigerians in the huts of Chibok, the helpless aged men and women in villages of Ebonyi, and the physically handicapped but mentally alert in the caves of Bukuru. Those who now have hearts of expectations of true change that changes lives are the men and women from the hamlet of Ogoni, whose rivers have been polluted, whose lands have been seized, and whose oil is stolen daily and proceeds locked up in the hands of strangers that live miles away. Hope should go

aglow for the man from the rustic region of Bayelsa, the woman from slumbering village of Akwa-Ibom, and the young man from the defiled and pillaged townships of Delta. The young man who graduated with a first class from the University, but has to work as a measly chauffeur to unlearned billionaire opportunists, who are hooked up to some big goons in government needs a leg up from his government. The young man, whose friends and loved ones got trampled to death at the Abuja Stadium in search of paltry jobs they had hoped would give them life may now believe that his time is now too.

THOSE hopeless unemployed, who believe that their leaders have driven the country to

an ignominious, ominous, and perilous precipice; and those citizens who know that it is the Nigerian genome for our culprit leaders and their privies not to take responsibility for their irresponsibility are also waiting to enjoy the dividends of a true democracy. I will not also leave out hundreds of thousands of

Nigerians trapped in the luxury and sophistication of the United States and the United Kingdom but whose lives are ‘hell’ even after forty years of sojourn away from home. These ones too who were driven away from their home lands for different reasons want to come back home that they know is their true home. But they cannot because home front is in a mess.

Buhari has his work cut out for him; and it is going to be a lot of work bringing about change. Problems besiege a nation because the people allowed it. Changes will happen only if the people allow it. To many people, Nigeria is like a killer-disease, a sickening bad-breath that will make you disgorge, and a belch from the gastro-intestine of hell. Nigeria shouldn’t be a zoo! Things have to work, and the new work is not just recycling tired hands that are used to gluttony and greed. Hard truth is that there are also many of these greedy characters in the APC, we know them, and many more are on their way. Some of them are already sending way-paving congratulatory messages to Buhari and at the back of their minds is business-as-usual. Buhari must shock them.

THE new work is more than appointing new ministers and filling vacant positions. It

shouldn’t be about positioning cronies in plum seats, who will be reporting back to some crazy godfathers in cash and kind. It must be about fulfilling campaign promises, and helping fulfill the dreams of many of us. What the APC told us they will do, they must do, and what I believe they will do must not be seen as an assignment; but a duty.

We are putting our fingers of remembrance on the promises which include fixing the problem of e lec t r ic i ty immedia te ly after forming government and promoting economic activities through the setting up of industries and revamping of moribund industries across the country. These must be done.

We have also been promised that Buhari will provide 720,000 jobs in its first year. It must be done. They also said that Buhari administration at the center which will be in control of 52% of the revenue will back state governments to employ 20,000 young persons per state as an emergency relief measure that will drastically reduce youth restlessness. It must be done. Many of these promises can only be fulfilled by a leadership that considers governance as a DUTY. I will elaborate on this next Friday.

We have seen the epic work done by APC Governors in states it controls across the Southwest and across the nation; we hope they will do more.

…to be continued…

Change 2015: Nationwide Downpour Of Blessings

· Continued from last week.

LOTS and lots have been bared on the hopes, expectations and desires of residents of the State of Osun; most especially, as far as

the Education Sub-sector of the socio-economic life of the state is concerned. The last edition gathered greater momentum due to the prevailing anticipation of declaration of Presidential / National Assembly results. As at the time of going to press last week, the air was thick with great expectations of what the pending election results would bring with it. Let it be sounded unequivocally that substantial part of the expectations of residents from the second coming of the Aregbesola administration is woven round the emergence of the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) at the centre.

Readers would bear attestation to it the hard times that pervaded the atmosphere in the states controlled by the political party considered to be at rivalry with the political party in control at the centre, i.e. the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Since around July 2013, the monthly statutory allocation accruing to these4 states from the Federation Accounts had reduced drastically by about 45 per cent. All the way till date, the remaining part of it has not been released constantly in full. The excuse tendered by the Federal Government has been that the dwindling oil revenue, occasioned by the fall of oil price in global market; coupled with the nefarious activities of oil thieves had been at the root of the economic adversity.

The excuse is viewed, reasonably as untenable and pretentious, more so, when all other states where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held sway had not been crying foul over the same situation. It was only when it appeared visible that the ploy had leaked that make-believe voices of complaints began to be heard from those states. Not even the excess crude reserve, which had in practice been shared to all states once a year have been forthcoming since the afore-mentioned time.

Many lies and propaganda have been spread abroad to indict the State Government of Osun in

particular as being responsible for the resultant cash squeeze. It was, for example, rumored that the State Government had plunged itself into near-insolvency due to the fact that it had bitten more thyan it could chew. The arguments continued that due to this messy situation, the Government of the State of Osun had obtained some multilateral loans which must be serviced and paid back from source with the involvement of the Federal Government. Concerning this allegation, OSun DEFEnDER Magazine is not in government, and as such, may not be eminently qualified to speak up for the Government of the State. However, if the State of Osun is indebted as alleged, is it all the states that are controlled by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) that are so indebted? If the State Government of Osun is indebted as alleged; and given the level and number of projects noticeable all around, funds from such loans were prudently appropriated, why then has the Federal Government not found it necessary and convenient to reimburse it for such projects, most especially those parts of it committed to Federal Government roads within its territories?

As fallout from last year ’s rounds of campaigns toward Gubernatorial Elections held in some states across the country, certain salient observations emerged. From nearby Ekiti State in particular, the statements with which the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its handlers ensnared the people into voting for their candidates were pregnant with meanings. Even though it is as of now doubtful whether the people did actually vote en masse for the party, the prevailing circumstance prior to June 2014 when the Governorship Elections held in the state was that the administration of former Dr. John Olukayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was starved with monthly statutory allocation and other entitlements as and when due.

Part of the campaign promises made by stalwarts and principal functionaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Ekiti people was that they knew full well the hard times

the state and her people were having; and that they had the entire magic wand it took to assuage the situation immediately the baton of governance changed in their favor. This decoy, as it turned out worked for a short while. Immediately upon his coming on board as governor of the state, the administration of Mr. Ayodele Fayose was reportedly lavished with an intervention package amounting to several hundreds of billions of naira. The intent was to flash and squander the money to further consummate the ensnarement project of the Ekiti people.

It is not surprising that the accord to lavish Ekiti with surplus funds fell like a pack of cards. The situation is easily likened to the libidinal urge which propels a randy lover-boy to pamper a proposed suitor with cash and other forms of gifts, with additional promises to do more after the deal is done. Unfortunately, Mr. Lover Boy buys out immediately he takes a taste and feels gratified; having had a fair portion of the forbidden fruit. This was exactly what played out between the Jonathan / Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government in the grand coup that went into the scramble for the soul of Ekiti.

Now that it is already widely known that that same administration has some preferential treatment with which it buys empires for itself, it had tended to back out from indiscriminate doling out of largess to its vast slavery lands. No wonder the same Governor Fayose recently cried out to whoever cared to listen of the poor financial status currently staring his state in the eye. As it appears, his state and he have fallen out of favour with their randy suitor; who having had a mouthful taste of the sumptuous forbidden fruit has become fulfilled, filled-up and fed-up.

In the face of the prevailing financial adversity in the states, the Federal Government, led by Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)had enough to squander before and during the last Presidential/National Assembly Elections. Now that the die is cast and the coast clear, the reality would have dawned on them that is would have been more expedient,

Continued from page 11had they concentrate quality time, effort and resources on provision of infrastructure and rendering of quality services to the benefit of the entire citizenry. Part of their causative of failure is the magnitude of roads, educational institutions, hospitals, water schemes and such others abandoned or left uninitiated, which made life quite deplorable to the citizenry.

On the contrary, the states that had the fortune and privilege of being under the rule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) relish good governance, engendered by provision of infrastructure; good free, quality and functional education; free, comprehensive health care delivery system; integrated agricultural system and food security; good housing and all the rest. To approximate the entire package, drawing quick reference to the Six-Point Integral Action Plan of the Aregbesola administration shall not be far from being relevant, concerning the goodies which realistic attractions to the success won by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just-concluded elections:

siX-pOiNT iNTeGraL aCTiON pLaN· Banish poverty · Banish Hunger· Banish unemployment (Create Work/

Wealth)· restore Healthy Living · promote Functional education· enhance Communal peace and

progressAs a matter of fact, these cardinal points,

currently enjoyed by states which had earlier come under the control of the All progressives Congress (APC) are the attraction for the other states; on the bases of which they polled massively for the party in the just-concluded Presidential Elections and the National Assembly Elections; and on the bases of which they will poll massively in the forthcoming Governorship and State House of Assembly Elections across the country.

For states which had done the wise and needful by casting their votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC), they are ready to repeat the feat next Saturday and even surpass it. For

those others who have not embraced the trend of change, the superlative performance of the party, visible from the outcome of the declared results of the Presidential / National Assembly Elections is enough conviction which would elicit rightful decisions from them next week.

Given the background of poor finances of All Progressives Congress (APC)-controlled states given above, vis-à-vis the superlative performances of these states in terms of quality service delivery and provision of infrastructure cum rolling out of other sorts of programmes and projects, the states have practically become the envy of all others around the nations. By the examples and legacies provided by these administrations in the various states, we are inspired that hope still exists for Nigeria; and that the Nigerian project can still work. The willful enthusiasm, zeal and zest with which a good majority of Nigerians demonstrated their desire for change during last week’s rounds of general elections suggest that the Nation is fast getting there.

Now, if the All Progressives Congress (APC)-controlled states could perform so awfully and valiantly, even in the face of paucity of funds, there are practical assurances of far better performances when the baton of governance at the federal level gets to the hand of these progressives. The antecedents, track records and pedigree of the man at the helm of affairs, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) are added testifiers to the good things to come.

COMMENTING on the hopes, expectations and desires of the people from the new administration, General Muhammadu Buhari in his acceptance speech on the occasion of his receiving the certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) i at the International Conference Centre, Abuja on Wednesday, April 1, 2015; expressed full realization and recognition for the mind of the people. He expressed the reality of the enormity of the task ahead; just as he tasked the Nigerian citizen t be more realistic cooperate and exercise high degree of patience for the desired change to fruition. Excerpts:

“We shall correct that which does not work

and improve that which does. We shall not stop, stand or idle. We shall, if necessary crawl, walk and run to do the job you have elected us to do. I realize that the expectation of our people today is as high as their commitment to change has been strong and their belief in us unshaken.

“While we pledge to begin doing our best without delay, we would like to appeal to them to appreciate the gravity of our situation, so that we become more realistic in our expectations. We will govern for you and in your interests. Your vote was not wasted. This is not the first time Nigerians have cast their votes for us, and this is not the first time they have been counted; but this is the first time that the votes have been allowed to count. With the help of God, we pledge to do our utmost to bring forth the Nigeria you seek.”

Still in the line of hopes and expectations, the in-coming President gave assurances in certain aspects as to what to expect from his administration in many diverse areas of life. On security challenges plaguing the nation since sometime in the past, he had the following to say:

“No doubt, this nation has suffered greatly in the recent past, and its staying power has been tested to its limits by crises, chief among which is insurgency by Boko Haram.

“There is no doubt that in tackling the insurgency we have a tough and urgent job to do. But I assure you that Boko Haram will soon know the strength of our collective will and commitment to rid this nation of terror, and bring back peace and normalcy to all the affected areas. We shall spare no effort until we defeat terrorism.”

Granted the seriousness of the problem of insecurity in the land, the President-Elect dwelt some more on the spate of insecurity and the dogged commitment of his administration to tackle the catastrophe head-on:

“You shall be able to go to bed knowing that you are safe and that your constitutional rights remain in safe hands. You shall be able to voice your opinion without fear of reprisal of victimization. My love and concern for this nation and what I desire for it extends to all, even to those who do not like us or our politics. You are

all my people and I shall treat all of you as my own. I shall work for those who voted for me as well as those who voted against me and even for those who did not vote at all. We all live under one name as one nation: we are all Nigerians.”

Another area of commitment and determination which the administration promises to combat is corruption. In his words, the plague of corruption is worse than terrorism and he asserted that the incoming administration would stop at nothing to arrest the spate of widespread corruption in the land. He, realizing the enormity of the task at hand sued for the cooperation of all in combating the albatross:

“Most of all, I thank the people of Nigeria for reposing their confidence in me at this trying moment. Our nation wrestles many challenges including insecurity, corruption, economic decline.

“I pledge to give you my nest in tackling these problems. The good people of Nigeria, your obligation does not end with casting your ballot.

“I seek your voice and input as we tackle these problems. This will not be a government democratic only in form. It will be a government democratic in substance and in how it interacts with its own people.

“Furthermore, we shall strongly battle another form of evil that is even worse than terrorism – the evil of corruption.

“Corruption attacks and seeks to destroy our national institutions and character. By misdirecting into selfish hands funds intended for the public purpose, corruption distorts the economy and worsens income inequality. It creates a class of unjustly enriched people.

“Such an illegal yet powerful force soon comes to undermine democracy because its conspirators have amassed so much money that they believe they can buy government.

“We shall end this threat to our economic development and democratic survival.

“I repeat that corruption will not be tolerated by this administration; and it shall no more be allowed to stand as if it is a respected monument in this nation.

“I ask you to join me in resolving these and the

other challenges we face.”The newly emerging helmsman did not forget

in his speech to make peace with his detractors, who ran him down on several grounds while the election campaign lasted. He, in true spirit of statesmanship demanded that all hatchets be buried; and that all people of diverse political affiliations and interests should carry on in unity:

“Let us put the past, especially, the immediate past, behind us. We must forget our old battles and past grievances – and learn to forge ahead. I assure you that our government is one that will listen to and embrace all. I pledge myself and our incoming administration to just and principled governance.

“Some issues about my eligibility have been raised during the campaign. I wish to state that through devotion to this nation, everything I have learnt and done has been to enable me to make the best possible contribution to public life. If I had judged myself incapable of governing, I would never have sought to impose myself on it.”

The incoming President also cautioned that there shall be moments of victories and those of errors; that whichever occurs per time, people should learn to accept it in true spirit of nationalism:

“Along the way, there will be victories but there may also be setbacks. Mistakes will be made. But we shall never take you for granted; so be rest assured that our errors will be those of compassion and commitment not of willful neglect and indifference.”

In furtherance of his expression of spirit of sportsmanship and that of statesmanship, General Buhari made moves of conciliation to his major contender in the just-concluded contest, President Goodluck Jonathan; extending the arm of friendship to him and his team. According to him, though people may differ on methods and approach of tackling the numerous challenges confronting the nation; or on the basis of their political ideology, they are still the same people under God and under same national identity:

“I have served in various capacities and have always put in my best. But despite the rancour of the elections, I extend the hand of friendship

and conciliation to President Jonathan and his team. I hereby wish to state that I harbor no ill-will against anyone. Let me state clearly that President Jonathan has nothing to fear from me.

“Although we may not agree on the methods of governing the nation, he is a great Nigerian and still our president. He deserves our support and permanent respect by virtue of the office he has held. This is how an honourable nation treats its servants and conducts its affairs; and this is how Nigeria should be.

“I look towards meeting with President Jonathan in the days to come to discuss how our teams can make the transition of administrations as efficient as possible. Here I want to thank my party for selecting me as its candidate.”

The President designate was full of promises to serve the people selflessly, defend their rights and equity before the law and guarantee that the rule of law is accorded the pride of place under the jurisdiction of his administration:

“We shall faithfully serve you. We shall never rule over the people as if they were subservient to government. Our long night has passed and the daylight of new democratic governance has broken across the land. This therefore is not a victory for one man or even one party.

“It is a victory for Nigeria and for all Nigerians.“The official announcement from INEC was

the moment the vast majority of Nigerians had hoped and been waiting for. Today, history has been made and change has finally come. Your votes have changed our national destiny for the good of all Nigerians. INEC has announced that I, Muhammadu Buhari, shall be your next President. My team and I shall faithfully serve you. There shall no longer be a ruling party again: APC will be your governing party.

“There shall be no bias against or favouritism for any Nigerian based on ethnicity, religion, region gender or social status. I pledge myself and the government to the rule of law, in which none shall be so above the law that they are not subject to its dictates, and none shall be so below it that they are not availed of its protection.”

Thanking God Almighty for the day and the

He thus cautioned supporters of change to celebrate the events of the victory with sober reflections rather than wild jubilations:

“I am immensely grateful to God for this day and for this hour. I feel truly honoured and humbled that the Nigerian people have so clearly chosen me to lead them.

“Millions of you have worked for this day. So many have risked life and livelihood; and others have died that we may witness this moment. And it is with a very deep heart that I report many deaths and injuries amidst the jubilations yesterday. We send our sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives, and wish speedy recovery to those who suffered injuries.

“I appeal to our supporters to celebrate this victory with prayers and reflection instead of wild jubilations. May the souls of those who died rest in peace. Let us take a moment of silence to honour those sacrifices have brought us to this fine and historic hour.

“As the results of the election have shown, their labour has not been and will never be in vain. Democracy and the rule of law will be re-established in the land.”

In what looks like a foretaste of the foreign policy thrust of his incoming administration, General Buhari gave promise of what his international relations would be in the next four years:

“I assure all foreign governments that Nigeria will become a more forceful and constructive player in the global fight against terrorism and in other matters of collective concern, such as the fight against drugs, climate change, financial fraud, communicable diseases and other issues requiring global response.

“I want to assure our fellow African nations that Nigeria will now stand as a more constructive

partner in advancing the matters of concern to our continent, particularly with regard to economic development and eradication of poverty.”

The remaining part of the acceptance speech was devoted to thanks, appreciation and gratitude to distinguished personalities, groups, governments of nations, international communities, security apparatuses and the electoral body that conducted the election and midwifed the success:

“I thank our party leaders and members for the steadfast contribution they made to our dream to fruition.

“I thank the INEC, the Police and all the government agencies for performing their tasks in a proper manner and for refusing to be induced to undermine the election and the democratic process. I also wish to thank religious leaders, traditional leaders, the media, labour unions, Civil Society organizations, organized private sector, youths and students for their roles in this election.

“I give special thanks to President Obama and the timely intervention and support to peaceful and credible elections in Nigeria and for sending Secretary John Kerry and other United States officials. The European Union – especially the United Kingdom, France, Germany and other nations that were actively involved in ensuring the success of this election are equally appreciated.

“My sincere thanks to the United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Ban–Ki Moon, the Commonwealth, China, and other Asian and Gulf states are also hereby appreciated.

“Finally our brothers in the African Union and ECOWAS have truly and clearly shown and demonstrated their commitment to the democratization process. Former Presidents John Kuffour, Amos Sawyer, Bakili Muluzi and his team are well appreciated. I must also add my appreciation for the role played by civil societies, national and international observers, other world leaders in ensuring that Nigeria holds free and fair elections.”

In furtherance of the foregoing, the list of gratitude continued:

“Former Head of State and President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, General Yakubu Gowon, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, General Ibrahim Babangida, Chief Ernest Shonekan and General Abdulsalami Abubakar deserve commendations for their statesmanship and words of caution and counsel for peace during the tense moments of the electoral period.”

EARLIER that same day, the Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola made a state-wide live broadcast to the people of the state, in his capacity as the helmsman of the state and the South-West coordinator of the Buhari / Osinbajo Election Campaign Committee. The broadcast speech, titled: “Ise Ya: The Beginning Of A New Beginning” opened prosaically well in the following opening remarks, which ran an overview of antecedent efforts by the progressive in the past to fuse together and the prophesy by the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo that the accord would come about some day:

“The elections of last Saturday, particularly the presidential election won by the candidate of our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari, were a watershed in the annals of democratic elections in Nigeria.

“The election of Alhaji Buhari as president is the culmination of the struggle for the enthronement of a people-driven democratic governance in this country. It is also the fulfillment of the prophetic insight of Chief Obafemi Awolowo who in 1983 predicted that the progressive elements in the north and South will come together for the liberation of this country.

“Indeed the progressives have always wanted to come together but their march had always been stopped by cruel fate. The coming together of the progressives under the United Progressives Grand Alliance (UPGA) in the First Republic was cut short by the military rule in 1966. The progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) was also brought to an end by the military in 1983. The progressive tendency of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) produced the Chief Moshood Abiola presidential election in 1993. It was also brought Continued on page 15

to an abrupt end by the military after the election was annulled. The APC however, is an idea whose time has come and there can be no stopping the march of history. It is significant that Chief Awolowo was instrumental to the formation of UPGA and PPA. Awoists formed the bulk of SDP in the South West. Also the dominant party in the South West that became a major partner in APC was an offshoot of Awolowo’s Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN). I congratulate you all for being part of the making of history.”

Commending the people for their role in attaining the feat, Aregbesola ran a commentary on the events that transpired, culminating in the success:

“It is greatly significant how the election went in Osun. Your enthusiastic response, determination orderly procession and conduct, peaceful disposition and commitment to the defence of democracy all shone through.

“We saw the various categories of people, young, old, men, women, the aged and the physically challenged, all trooped to the various polling stations to perform their civic duties. Because of vehicular restriction, many had to trek long distances to get to their polling stations in order to vote,

“You all willingly sacrificed a whole day to be able to cast your votes to elect the president and federal lawmakers, in order to help shape the direction of the governance of our nation in the next four years. You voted and stood by your votes until they were counted and defended the integrity of the election. Your enthusiasm did not wane, even where voting started late and continued till the next day.”

The governor further acknowledged and showed appreciation for their supportive role and backing in past elections since his assumption of office as governor of the state; as well as the same strong support since the old era of the Action Group (AG) in the 1950s.

“The pattern of the election was consistent with what obtained since our coming to office, first,

during the 2011 general elections and secondly in last year’s governorship election. In 2011, you enthusiastically supported our candidates. Then, our presidential candidate won convincingly in Osun. You did the same this time again. This is in spite of divisive campaign of ethnicity, religion and regionalism embarked upon by our opponents. You have demonstrated the same consistency in your support for the progressive cause since the days of the Action Group and have been passionate about us as you were about Chief Obafemi Awolowo. You have our profound gratitude for this uncommon love and support you have shown us.”

Lamenting recorded cases of violence in some parts of the state; which he attributed to the nefarious activities of detractors, Aregbesola warned the culprits to desist, lest the long arms of law catch up with them. He went further to shame the outlaws, pointing out that in spite of their disruptive tendencies, the elections still went on smoothly; hence, the success we attained. He then gave the people a pat in the back for defying the distractions of detractors to produce a great feat at the end of the exercise:

“There were reports of pockets of violence and attempted and manipulation of votes in some parts of the state. These are the handiwork of agents of destabilization and political brigandage. The security agencies are looking into this and will stop at nothing in order to bring the perpetrators to book. Popular participation and freedom of choice are the essence of democracy and are guaranteed by the constitution and protected by our law. We affirm every man’s right to have these. However, criminality, disruption of voting, political violence and denial of other citizens their right to political choice will not be tolerated. You have my assurance that whoever wants to disrupt the peace of Osun will have the mighty force of the law to contend with. We shall defend democracy and the right of all to participate in politics and freely make a choice.

“In spite of the efforts of these outlaws, however, you refused to be provoked and you let peace reign. Local and international

observers noted your commitment to peace and determination to deepen democracy. I am very proud of you.”

He expressed great pleasure over the victory recorded; not only in the State of Osun, but all over the country; appreciating those who contributed to it and charging the people to be committed to managing the success. He charge all and sundry to ensure casting their votes forprogressives in the last batch of elections slated for next Saturday:

“Indeed, we are well pleased with the exercise in Osun and especially the mammoth support we have received from voters all over the country that led to the election of our presidential candidate. Given what we have witnessed on Saturday, we have a measure of assurance that political power is now returning to the people through the democratic process. We must build on this; defend and guard it jealously. We should now gird our loins and give total support to the government of the people in order to have the life more abundant that we earnestly hope for.

“I must express my profound gratitude to all the people who voted for our candidates in the other elections into the National Assembly. The officers so elected will, in the best tradition of progressive leadership, provide the best representation to their constituencies.”

Affirming the commitment of his administration to guarantee safety and welfare for all; differences notwithstanding, Aregbesola was full of gratitude to various groups of people for their kind gestures.

“We want to assure you all, however, that irrespective of the political party you voted for, our mandate to govern covers every inch of our soil and covers all the people, irrespective of ideological and political affiliation; ethnic and religious identity and colour of skin. We shall continue to serve to the best of our ability, to provide leadership, defend your interest with all our might and bring life more abundant to you all.

“I will like to thank all the people who made the elections a huge success I our state,

Encomiums On President Jonathan In Perspectives

•JOnATHAn

ALL Nigerians; except those who were hell- bent on setting our

country on fire are today democratic winners and true democrats. For once, Nigerians have demonstrated that we are matured to hold our destiny in our own hands, whether the wielders of power of incumbency like it or not. All is well that end well; that is the simple reason we can gloss over numerous malfeasances that transpired predominantly in a section of the country in March 28, 2015 elections. However, it will constitute a great omission on our part, if we fail to have a review that will relatively put some corrigenda in order.

The suspense of political hindsight really sent jitters to the spines of average Nigerians because of various nasty experiences of our stereotype politics of bitterness usually accompanied by win at all cost syndrome. We saw during electioneering campaigns vicious cycle of acrimony, mud-slinging, hate-speeches, and other indecorous manifestations that put doubts on any propensity to let go in an event of a loss at the polls. Not even the signing of a peace accord by some parties’ presidential candidates, most especially the two major contenders, was able to entrench decorous behaviour amongst the rank and file of various party hierarchies. It was like we were preparing for real warfare in the countdown to the elections.

The whole world are now pouring encomiums on the outgoing President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for essentially nipping in the bud, imminent breakout of violent reactions from apparently aggrieved individuals that feel the pinch of losing power in an unprecedented manner. Although, it is very much true that the telephone call Mr President put across to the president-elect; General Muhammadu Buhari, doused tensions and potentially potent restiveness that would have ensued, certain underlying factors need illumination, so that some avoidable misconceptions may be rooted out of our political scenario that has now become a topical issue for discussion in the global arena.

It is eminently clear that the outgoing president was vicious in the build-up to the general elections. The campaign organisation of Mr. President applied all manner of antics to dissuade votes that majority of Nigerians determined to give General Muhammadu Buhari. Undue character assassination held sway as sponsored hate-speech advertorials dubbed most print media. Desperation got to the highest crescendo after a six- week extension was slammed on election time table, when the impartial Channels Television was also made to kiss the canvas against its avowed propensity for neutrality. Though still allowed for some modicum of decency, Channels Television still carried some offensive advertorial at some points in time: the power of inducement and gratification at work one would say.

Flouting of earlier peace accord by Goodluck Jonathan and his ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was enough to derail our chequered democratic process, while frequent visits to Lagos by the President left much too hot for comfort. It was considered a desperation taken too far by a sitting president to visit a zone severally with foreign and local currencies as gratification to cause disaffections amongst kith and kin in Yoruba land. So worse was the reckless spending by those expected to know the economic implications of indiscriminate withdrawal of fund that the value of naira got to all time low of N242 to $1; while non-indigenes began to sing discordant tunes because different

people were stripped of their resilience and determination for good governance through money-engendered hypnotism. Some old people within the South-West geo-political zone suddenly threw caution and wisdom of old age to the altar of compromise; claiming that they were speaking for Yoruba people that are predominantly progressive-inclined.

I a m n o t s u r e t h e p r e s s u r e o f electioneering can be so fierce that we shall forget so quickly the menace of

compromised election in Ekiti State and the perpetrated impunity under Jonathan, whereby only seven members of twenty six in the State House of Assembly have been legislating for the state government. The reality of Ekiti election fraud will surely unfold very shortly, when appropriate authority beam searchlight on shrouded facts in a recorded tape by an army captain. The impunity of seven Ekiti legislators to suppress majority voice of nineteen legislators under Jonathan watch also left much to be desired. Recklessness was elevated above civility in the Fountain of

Knowledge State; so much that people began to ask question as to what effect the acquired knowledge of numerous Ekiti sons and daughters has had on their ability to cherish freedom and good governance. A Judge was beaten in the discharge of his duty, yet nothing was done to bring the hoodlums said to be sponsored by governor Fayose to book. It is like that all over the country as PDP literally went for the jugular against opposition in all states of the federation.

Nigerians will be interested in unravelling how the personal file of General Buhari while in the service of his fatherland in the Nigerian Army was tampered with in an attempt to discredit him as a candidate that purportedly never obtained a school leaving certificate. At a point in time, espirit de corps was debased such that a far junior officer to Buhari, while in the Nigerian Army treated him with derision; all in the name of politicking. Military operations became so politicized such that professionalism that is the hallmark of military tenets became grossly compromised due to unbridled

interference from the ruling party.I have listened to President

Jonathan’s telephone conversation with the President-elect, and the simple conclusion I can draw from it is that President Jonathan has all along been flying a kite that is remotely controlled. He cannot be said to be in-charge of Nigeria’s affairs as President. It may be that the general conjecture that his wife,

Patience, or some big wigs in PDP have been defacto rulers is correct after all. Mr Jonathan that threw decorum to the wind during campaigns to subject his archrival to serious dehumanization is different from one that gave Buhari lavished respect in their conversation; just like Mr Jonathan that disgracefully sent Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi packing, only to kneel down before him a few months later begging for his (Sanusi’s) royal blessings. His Lilliputian spirit could not withstand the tension any remarkable electoral fraud could generate; more so when the international community has repeatedly warned against rigging and any act capable of undermining or subverting the electoral process.

TWO scenarios I quickly want to draw attentions to at the International Conference Centre, Abuja that

served as collation centre are the sudden interruption by a former Niger Delta affairs minister Elder Godswill Orubebe, who was said to have been directed by Patience Jonathan to disrupt the ongoing process, so that the election might remain inconclusive; while the other was the case of a Professor who could not read what he purportedly collated and personally wrote down in the open. Not even the provision of extra-super illumination could help him out, as it was another person entirely that read the results; a clear evidence that the figures were arbitrarily written by someone else for the professor to read. These are clear inferences of fraud that can conveniently be drawn.

The needless accolades being poured on President Jonathan are capable of being counterproductive and attract undue sympathy towards him and his ruling party. Also, a true statesman should not engage in activities that will divide citizens along ethnic and religious lines as exemplified in President’s Jonathan body language as he was seeking re-election. Different nationalities that have been living together without rancour suddenly became adversaries one to another because of ambition. It took God’s intervention for Ndigbo in Lagos not to go into war against their host Lagosians. We suddenly realised that some sections of the society are being marginalized through mere imagination propelled by inordinate ambition.

Instead of unnecessarily alluding heroism to President Jonathan, we owe God full appreciation and adoration for helping us to escape the effect of time bomb that the outgoing president and his co-travellers set against the Nigerian majority. We must thank Professor Attahiru Jega for applying his God-given wisdom to insist on the use of card reader machines that PDP vehemently rejected; and for his endurance through barrage of provocation meted to him while discharging his duty for the survival of his fatherland. Kudos also goes to all Nigerians who endured all manners of intimidation to see to the emergence of a new Nigeria. All supporters of this positive change are indeed the true heroes that must be eulogized. I welcome all to a new Nigeria.
