Our Fabulous JLT!Hi, it’s Melissa, Elijah, Joe and Katie here- Head Boy Head Girl and deputies.

Appointing our Junior Leadership Team has been such a difficult decision. We had so many fabulous letters of application and amazing interviews. However, after much deliberation, we are pleased to announce that we have finally selected our JLT.

Devastation in Year 3! On Monday, Mr Dundon, who teaches outdoor learning, informed us of the incredibly upsetting news that Wakefield Council intend to sell the land at Spring Mill to housing developers. This has spurred a fiery passion within us and we have decided that we are going to do all that we can to stop this from happening. Armed with an extensive list of reasons not to sell the land, the children have been planning their persuasive letters to send to the council.

In our geography lesson, we looked at an OS map of Spring Mill. We were given the challenge to identify the human and physical features of this area which has helped to aid our argument further.

Year 3 have also been showing off their creativity! Using Van Gogh as our inspiration, we have analysed his famous artwork ‘Starry Night’ and experimented with colours and patterns. The children thoroughly enjoyed creating their own sample using the techniques discussed. We look forward to sharing the finished products with you next week.

In maths, we have been

demonstrating how to bridge in

column addition and sharing our

knowledge of adding multiples of 10

to 3-digit numbers with our peers.

It’s Alarming! What a penultimate week of the first half term it’s been in Year 4! After deciding on a pressure pad switch last week, we’ve been beavering away this week writing explanation texts detailing exactly how an alarm and a switch work.

In art, we’ve been working extremely hard on completing our final - Laurel Burch inspired - cat sketches/paintings. Keep your eye out for our final display, which we will be putting up over the next week.

On Tuesday, we enjoyed a busy sporting afternoon competing against one another in our very first mixed Y4 athletics/netball tournament. Despite the rain slightly curtailing our afternoon, it certainly didn’t hinder our spirits or our competitiveness. It was just wonderful to pit our wits against friends in other year 4 classes.

We Are Vikings!WOW! What an amazing week we have had in Year 5 this week!

We transformed into the Vikings at Danelaw and have learnt that often, our perception of Vikings is wrong. We realised that they were not all bloodthirsty, violent warriors, but that they were hard workers, traders and skilled farms people. Whilst at Danelaw, we learnt some of the farming techniques, sculpted clay candle holders, collected firewood for the longhouse, grinded wheat and defended our town of Jorvik! It was a fabulous day and we all really enjoyed it!

In other news this week, we have been preparing for our netball tournament next week!

We are very excited for our last week before half term and can’t wait to start writing our final piece of writing for the Vikings - a detailed description of a longhouse!

Great Geography! In Music, we had the chance to work in groups and compose our own melodies! We came up with a phrase to create rhythm and chose our own notes.

In English, we have discovered our refugee is from Syria and want others to learn more about this country. We have decided to create a non-fiction piece of writing to inform and educate people around the world.

In Geography, we have been interpreting maps to find the physical and human features of Syria. We studied a range of different maps to decide which ones would be the most useful for us. We will be using what we have learnt for our information texts in English.
