Dear Parishioners,

As Catholic Christians we continue to celebrate the miracle which is Easter: the glorious Resurrection of Jesus from the Dead! I am edified by the participation of so many of you during the Lenten Masses, devotions, Penance and visits to the Blessed Sacrament. You demonstrated a willingness to make this Lent a time for personal and spiritual growth. I pray that the Lenten sacrifices you offered up would return to you as moments of God’s grace, to better realize His unconditional love for you in this world and at this moment. I was so pleased to witness the huge number of people who attended the Easter Liturgies and to experience the impact of a “full to overflowing church” reflected in the singing, the responses and the positive friendly energy we all felt. We can all pray that going forward, many people will find their way back “home” to be renewed. May I express my gratitude to each of you for your financial generosity to our Parish throughout the year, and especially in the Easter Offertory Collection. We have many buildings as well as a sprawling church campus to maintain as part of our legacy here in Linwood. Our Church’s stewardship of time, talent and treasure is entrusted to each of us, to do our part in helping our Parish grow and renew itself.

A glance backwards confirms that our parish’s Liturgies of Holy Week were very well attended by parishioners. Worshippers filled the church to overflowing for Palm Sunday, as we received and waved fresh branches of cut palm. With music appropriate to the feast day, we gathered as a faith-filled community to recall Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem and to mark the beginning of the holiest week of the liturgical year. Holy Thursday witnessed to the institution of the Eucharist as Jesus gave his disciples a new command or “mandatum” to serve others’ needs and to celebrate this meal as a “new cove-nant” ratified by the sacrifice of his body and blood as our Redeemer. Twelve members of our parish family came forward to have me wash and towel dry their right foot, as Jesus did for his apostles at Passover. Processing around the church, the clergy carried the Eucharist to the Repository Tabernacle, providing the opportunity for private prayer. (continued….)

24 Hours A Day—7 Days a Week “I have loved you, says the Lord.” (Mal. 1:2) This is Divine Mercy Sunday and we celebrate the tender love and mercy of Jesus, the same Jesus present upon our altar. No matter how often or how deeply we have turned our backs on God, He is always ready to forgive us. Jesus has His arms opened to receive us. Come to Him and tell Him of our sorrow, our repentance and of our trust in His everlasting love and mercy. We do not deserve this, nor have we earned this gift, for He gives it to us freely and lovingly. We shall be celebrating the Feast of the Annunciation this week because it fell on Palm Sunday. In reality the Annunciation is the real Birth of Christ as Mary said YES and the Holy Spirit conceived Jesus in her Immaculate body. Let us say yes, to the love and mercy of Jesus.

There is no Bible Study Class on Monday, April 9th. Deacon Joe’s class will resume on Monday, April 16th.

Good Friday, with the sanctuary stark and empty, afforded us the opportunity to listen to the reading of the Passion, to reverence by kiss or touch the feet of the Crucifix and to receive Holy Communion. The Stations of the Cross followed later that evening. Table foods for Easter were blessed on Saturday noon. At the Easter Vigil Mass we ignited the Easter fire and christened the new Paschal Candle, from which we lit our own personal candle as Believers! During the 6 Old Testament Readings, it became clear that “Our Ancestry Story” is “our Salvation History Story”. It began in Genesis with Creation and continues through the renewal of Faith at Easter! As Easter morning dawned, our masses were very well attended and at 8 and 10am were at standing room capacity. The children enjoyed the Easter Egg Hunt, turning back several thousand plastic eggs now emptied of their candy treats while parents enjoyed hospitality of donuts, bagels, coffee, tea, milk and assorted juices in the hall, while supplies lasted! Most of us went on from here to attend family dinners, visit friends, go out for lunch or dinner.

We wish to express our gratitude to everyone who assists with the ministries of Our Lady of Sorrows Church: Eucharistic Ministers, Readers, Youth Altar & Adult Servers, Art & Flowers Teams with Gerard, Choir, Cantors, Organist, Steve Beddia and Music Min-istry, Ushers, Parish Office Staff, Melissa Stuchel and Religious Education Catechists & Aides, Tom Salerno and Youth & Young Adult Ministry, Sunday Collection Counters, Candle Tenders, Knights of Columbus, and the MacDonald family. Your commitment of time, talent and treasure is invaluable in helping us to maintain our strong and visible church presence in the Linwood community.

We know in our minds that Easter initiates a SEASON OF EVENTS IN THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH and so at 3:00 PM today, Sunday April 8th , we will observe Divine Mercy Sunday with prayer, devotion, reverencing of the relic of St. Faustina and Benediction. Further details of the schedule are printed elsewhere in this Bulletin.

Christ Has Risen from the Dead. By death He conquered Death. And to those in the grave He has given Life. Alleluia. Blessings to you.

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY We will observe Divine Mercy Sunday at Our Lady of Sorrows on Sunday, April 8th. Services begin at 3:00 p.m. and will incorporate the recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, recitation of the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary, reading of a Concise Catechesis of Divine Mercy Sunday (incorporating Pope Saint John Paul II’s Message of 1981) and time for private devotion. The Holy Hour concludes with Benediction. Divine Mercy Sunday is an annual celebration of God’s Mercy when all sin is forgiven and the punishment due to sin is completely removed for those who prepare for this day by celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation prior to today, and who receive Holy Eucharist on the day itself. The focus of Divine Mercy Sunday is on God’s Mercy for sinners, for those who turn to Him with trust.
