not, understands every human heart the way we cannot, and is perfectly just and good …which we all fall short of.

To slow, or dull, our anger is long-suffering! It’s a constant battle, but we have Jesus’ example to follow and His Spirit to sustain us. We can be slow to anger when we avoid acting in the moment and instead race to hit the pause button.

Being slow to anger requires increased trust in God, and His plan for our lives—which cannot be thwarted. It’s a choice to be obedient to God, instead of our flesh. No human ever was or is or will walk this earth able to curb every angry moment. Only Jesus fulfilled and followed God’s law to perfection.

What happens when we are quick to anger and have a broken heart or relationship to show for it? We race to God for forgiveness, with an attitude of repentance. We hold onto the promise recorded in Lamentations 3:22-23, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithful-ness.”

GOD IS SLOW TO ANGER

Are you someone who gets angry easy? God is slow to anger, a truth repeated vigorously throughout Scripture. God isn’t driven by anger or swayed by sin. He is God. His anger is just, and His consequence for our sin merciful. He takes everything into account and deals appropriately. For those who do wickedness, He is slow to anger, but they do not go unpun-ished. His plan and timetable for how He invokes His justice is not the same as ours. He desires to see everyone repent and come to a life-transforming relationship with Him. If you are holding your breath waiting for God to zap those who have wronged you then you may want to breathe, it could take a while. He may use this waiting period to teach you grace and forgiveness.

God’s love is the focus of His character. He is quick to love us, to the point of sending Jesus to save us. God’s ways are just and good because that is who He is. “I AM WHO I AM,” God told Moses. Yahweh is unchanging and everlasting.

Exodus 34:6 is the most repeated verse in all of the Bible. It’s a point God wants us to remember, though we cannot fully understand who He is within the capacity of the human mind. When proclaim-ing who He is to Moses, God revealed the existence of His anger. However, anger is surrounded by merciful and gracious … steadfast love and faithfulness. God is not slow to love; He’s slow to anger. God is good and just, and therefore

cannot sit back and tolerate evil and sin. However, the core of who He is is love (Psalm 86:15).

Our God loves us for who we are, right where we are at. In Christ, we are an ever-changing soul, growing closer to the form we were created to take, and the place we will rest with Him eternally. The Bible describes God’s anger as a serious conse-quence of who He is: just, fair, and good. His love and compas-sion for us, His mercy and forgiveness, far outweigh His anger.

God is slow to anger and abound-ing in love. His love drives Him. So often, we are quick to anger, and slow to let it go! Scripture tells us to take every thought captive. God doesn’t have to do that - He is God. His anger is always justified and necessary. Ours is not.

Not all anger is bad. Righteous anger is evident in the Bible, and is seen in Jesus’ life on earth. God’s anger is righteous anger. Our anger does not always fall in that category. But in Christ, we can make headway in our efforts to slow unrighteous anger from exploding, and rooting itself as bitterness.

We get angry when we don’t get our way or don’t understand, but God is always in control. He does not get angry because He doesn’t misunderstand, fall short, or suffer from a sin-sick world. God’s anger is surrounded by mercy, grace, love and compassion. His sover-eign purposes reign, unaffected by our anger. He knows what we do

Hello, my name is Rahila Yusaf. I was born in Pakistan (7,000 miles away!) into a born-again Christian family. At an early age, I accepted Jesus as my personal savior and have had a strong relationship with the Lord ever since.

Soon after earning a bachelors degree and starting my career as a teacher, my parents arranged my marriage as is the norm in my culture. In 1991, I was married to a born-again Christian man and shortly after was blessed with a wonderful son and lovely daughter. In 1996, I moved to the United States (WA), and began work as a pre-school teacher at a Christian school. I have joyfully been teaching pre-school aged children ever since!

In 2012, my husband left this world to be with the Lord. Though it was a difficult time for me, I learned to fully trust and rely on God and His promises for my life. The verse that provided me comfort was “all things work together for good according to His great purpose” (Romans 8:28). Soon after, God brought a wonderful Christian man in my life and we got married in 2018.

In 2017, I began working at Cedar Park Christian School. I am so grateful for the opportunity to share both God’s Word and love with the preschoolers and their families. I praise the Lord who helps me connect with the children and to explore these hidden treasures of His kingdom. With His divine help, I do not want to just teach the students and help them grow academically but also socially, mentally and spiritually. My daily prayer is, “God, please help me to sow the seed of your love in my preschoolers.”

My favorite scripture is Psalm 103. I enjoy long walks, hikes, and snow-showing. I cannot function without my morning coffee (bonus if it’s from Starbucks)! My favorite television show is “Little House on the Prairie” and I am currently enjoying watch-ing “Anne with an E” on Netflix. I am look-ing forward to COVID restrictions lifting so I can fly to San Diego to visit my daughter and her husband. I truly feel called to pray for my family, friends, and community. If I can ever pray for you, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
