PawPrints Magazine's HOMELESS COVER MODEL Reading is

fundamental, and so is

adoption! If you adopt me, we can read

bedtime stories together every

night. I’m Micky, a 2 to

3-year-old Shepherd/

Retriever mix boy. I’m already neutered, up to date on shots, leash-trained, house-trained and on heartworm

prevention. I’m very sweet and get along well with other dogs. In fact, I’ve played happily with every dog I’ve ever met at the shelter. I’m also a pro at

several commands: stay, shake, sit and lay down. I have a friendly, social personality and will need a fenced-in yard to play in. An adult-only home or

one with older kids would also be best. You’ll find that I’m a loyal, true-blue companion who is there for you whenever you need me. Hey, I’ve got a

great idea! How about coming to the shelter and taking me for a walk? We can get to know one another as we stroll around the grounds. Call

Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-7022 and let’s set a date! In closing, I’d like to thank my friends at the shelter for bringing me to the photo shoot and I’d also like to thank photographer Dick

Parrott for my cover model photo. I didn’t even mind wearing my reading glasses! Hopefully, I’ll be

reading my next book with my brand new family.

Compassionate Cat Lover Needed Desperately!

We lived in a loving home for years, then everything changed. My name is Claire and I’m 16-years-old. My best buddy,

Gracie, is a youngster in comparison at 10-years-old. We shared a life together - a very happy, comfortable one. Then our elderly owner became ill and couldn’t take care of us. There was no one else to take

us in and we were brought to Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue (SOAR.) It’s quite a change to go from a comfy home

with familiar sights and sounds to the strange surroundings of an animal shelter. Isn’t it sad that, at our advanced age, we have no special person to love us? We

each enjoy being held and will snuggle up in your arms. We can’t get enough kisses and are so happy to receive attention. We

appear to be in good health and are spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. We’d love to be adopted into one family.

If that’s not possible, we can be adopted separately. Please spread the word about us to your friends! We deserve the dignity of a peaceful senior life and we hope there is someone out there who will take us into their heart. Call SOAR at 910-457-6340 to find out how you can meet us. P.S. You might recall that we

once had a sister, Rachel, who appeared with us. She passed away due to her advanced age. Rest in peace, Rachel.

We are sponsored in loving memory of Speckles.

Hello! My name is Ineeda as in ‘I need a home really bad!’ At just 8½ pounds, I’m a cuddly pack-age of pure love.

And if you are want-ing a doggy that you

can hold like a baby, I will happily oblige. You could

hold me like that for hours! I’m 7 to 8-years-old, spayed, vaccinated, house-

trained, leash-trained and good

with cats and other dogs. I was originally at Pender County Animal Control (and had some bad teeth) but they contacted Furever Friends and that’s where I’m currently residing. I’ve had a full dental with a good cleaning and a few extractions. The doc also diag-

nosed me with heartworms so I’m having those treated, too. Don’t worry though, I’ll be fine and it won’t be an extra charge to my new family! I’m so easy-going and calm that I’ll be happy in a condo, apartment or house as long as I’m loved. I would

love to be an important part of your life. To make me part of your family, call Furever Friends at 910-383-2100 (Monday through Friday between 8am-6pm).

I am sponsored by State Farm Rob Cutting

Insurance Agency in honor of Molly.

Looking for a goofy, happy-go-lucky guy? Look no further! I'm

Bennie and I'm a 1-year-old purebred American Staffy who needs someone to love. I had a rough start in life but I'm all better and have left the past behind me. I've been neutered, am up to date on all my vaccinations and

am on heartworm preventative. I've

been working with a professional trainer who tells me I'm a grrrrreat boy who is eager to please. I know how to sit, stay and lay down on command. I'm also

100% house-trained. I get a little excited around other dogs and cats, so I would do best in a home where I was your

only fur baby. If you are interested in adopting me, please call 910-231-4275 and let’s set up a date!

I am sponsored by Francesca Slaughter in appreciation of Capeside Animal Hospital and Van Dyne K9. Thanks!

Hi, I’m Annabelle. I am a gorgeous Shepherd mix

who is 6-years-young and spayed. I am a big girl

(100 pounds) with lots of love to give! I have many

exceptional qualities. I am a great watchdog with a deep bark. I walk well

on a leash and have been obedience-trained. I am invisible fence trained, too! I would love to live

inside again and you’ll be pleased to know, I'm

100% house-trained! My requirements are simple! I

need a fenced yard or invisible fence and a home where there are no other dogs or cats. Because of my extra-large size, I would do best with older children, too. I deserve another chance to find a great home, could it be with you? If you are interested

in adopting me, please call Amy today at 910-253-0501 to arrange a visit. Hope to see you soon!

memory of Casper and Lucy.

URGENT, URGENT!

I’M RUNNING OUT OF TIME!

You saw me in last month’s issue and

now here I am again, begging for your help. Isn’t it sad that a gen-tle, brown-eyed beauty

like me is spending every day and night in a concrete kennel at Animal Control? And what’s even sadder is

that I keep getting overlooked in favor of

other dogs. That’s what happens to black dogs sometimes. People are drawn to color and pass me by. My name is Alexis

(CF2625) and I’m a young Sheltie mix, just 30 pounds or so, with silky long fur. I was found as a stray by the side of

the road, doing my best to avoid the cars whizzing by. Thank goodness someone stopped for me! I’m great with other dogs but I’d rather not live with kitty cats. I’m friendly

to all the people I’ve met and have been a perfect angel during my stay. Won’t you please adopt me and take

me home? Call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196 and

give me the happy ending I so deserve.

I am sponsored by Kathy Lanio. Thank you!

URGENT, URGENT! I’M RUNNING OUT

OF TIME! Wow, this is my

second month in the magazine! How has a

sweetheart like me been overlooked? My name is Beau

(CM2569) and I’m a very handsome Border Collie mix. As you can see from my smile, I’m a social, friendly fellow

who never meets a stranger. So why on earth am I still at Ani-mal Control? It’s one

of those mysteries that no one can seem to explain. At just 2 to 3-years-old, I came to the shelter feeling kinda itchy. The nice folks here took me to the vet and she

shaved me down. (That’s why you can see my skin in my photo.) It turned out I just needed some ointment and now I’m cured! My hair is growing back and soon I’ll be even more gorgeous. I love all the people I meet and the vet

said I behaved beautifully while under her care. I also get along fabulously with other dogs. Won’t you please come meet me? Pender County Animal Control can be reached at 910-259-1349 or 910-279-3196. Tell them you’re inter-

ested in giving me a second chance at a great life!

I am sponsored by the Keffer family: Dixie, Luke, Kira, Nikki and Charly. Thank you!

Hi there, my name is Knut! If you’re wondering how to

pronounce my name, it rhymes

with ‘cute’. Pretty appropriate, huh?

I’m a male Maltese/Shih Tzu mix, just 3 to 4-years-old, and

I weigh approxi-mately 12 pounds.

I’m currently sharing a foster home with a few other dogs, and

we all get along well. I’m already house-trained and I love to play! Just give me a doggie toy to chew on or toss

around and I’m happy. You may think I’m a bit shy when we first meet but don’t worry, I warm up quickly. I’m very affectionate and enjoy being held. As for my health, I am

neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. If you’d like to meet me, please call NC Rescue League at

910-232-5253. You can also visit their website at www.ncrl.petfinder.com to see more photos of me!

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange

Hey everyone! I'm Kibbee, a cute Boxer

mix puppy up for adop-tion with Blue Ridge

Boxer Rescue. I'm not quite 1-year-old yet, I'm already neutered, I’m up

to date with my shots and I'm ready to go with my new family any time. I am such a good boy and I love the ladies! There are kids in my foster home and I'm

great with them. There are a few female dogs - and one male dog and

we butt heads sometimes - so I'd really love to have a lady friend to play with in my forever home. Please contact Sonya via email at [email protected] or by phone at

864-419-5198 to find out more information about me. You can visit www.blueridgeboxerrescue.com to see more pics

of me and the other Boxers looking for forever families.

I am sponsored in loving memory of George Tabor-Beddoe, who had Aunt Kerry's heart

from the moment they met.

Adopt-An-ANGEL

September 2010 www.PawPrintsMagazine.com 9

►My name is Annabelle. I am about 2 to 3-years-old and was once a stray. Now, I am crate-trained and almost com-pletely house-trained (about

98%). I am great with smaller dogs and getting better (less dominant) with larger dogs. I

am not sure about cats. I am a bit shy, so small children would not be a good match for me. I

am spayed, up to date on shots and am starting my heartworm

treatment. Special thanks to Cathy Ledbetter who paid for it! I have a quiet, stable personality and I am a little Rott-weiler who has been homeless for FAR TOO LONG! I am

really a nice family dog.

►My name is Prince and I was found running loose and turned in to Animal Control. When no owners came forward and no one adopted me, I ran out of time. Fortunately, Adopt-An-

ANGEL had a spot and took me in. I had a huge, ugly wart on my head. Apparently, I tried to kiss a toad to marry a princess, but only got a wart instead. But then, my wart exploded and required emergency surgery and that's when Magda Ratajski

and other kind folks chipped in and paid my vet bill. Wow, what a story! I am neutered, heartworm negative, vacci-

nated and even had my wart taken care of. I am a big, lazy, loveable Hound who is very laid back. I do like to run for a

few minutes each day, but I lounge the rest of the day. I am house-trained and very, very sweet. Being homeless is ex-

hausting! I need to get to where I am going so I can just rest. I get along great with other cats and dogs and would

benefit from being in a home with another dog.

◄Hello, my name is Claire. I am just 10-months-old and full of life and fun. That's why it was so sad that I spent almost 3-months of my life at Bruns-

wick Animal Control - only to run out of time. It's not a bad place, just not a place to play and be a puppy in! I

have a lot of energy and am a Yellow Lab and Hound mix who only weighs

40 pounds. I am very submissive with other dogs and people. I would bene-fit from another dog who can wear me

out, or I can wear out! I'd probably need a fenced yard and some people who will help me learn how to be part of a fam-ily. I have a great temperament and tons of potential. I am

spayed, up to date on shots and heartworm negative.

◄Hi, my name is Jed. I'm a Black and Tan Coon-

hound and I weigh about 70

pounds. My foster family

says I'm a little goofy but I'm just

a Hound. I can be very playful but I do enjoy my naps. I have a doggy door I can use and spend most of my time snoozing on the back deck. For those of you out there

who are true Hound fans, I have a bark that would make any hound-parent proud. After a long hard day of snooz-ing, I like to retire to my kennel for a good night's sleep. If you are interested in a true Hound, please contact my

foster family by calling 910-754-3608. I am NOT a hunting dog. I am used to being inside with a family.

►My name is Tiger and I had been at Pender County Animal Control

for several months when the shelter ran out of room and I ran out of

time. When Adopt-An-ANGEL had no more room in their program, Amy San out of California spon-sored my boarding fees so that

Adopt-An-ANGEL could take me in. I love that lady! Thank You! I am an energetic guy who is full of life and starving for attention. It is so sad that I had to spend this long

being homeless. Won't you please come meet me at Petco and give

me a chance? I am neutered, up to date on my shots, and heartworm negative. I am a

Catahoula mix and look how beautiful my markings are!

◄Oh my goodness! I am such a sweetheart. My

name is Angie and I am a Beagle and Hound mix. I was turned in to Animal

Control and ran out of time. I am really hoping that my luck turns around soon.

Come see me at Petco each weekend. I am spayed, up

to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative,

house-trained and I LOVE PEOPLE! I am choosy with other dogs and do well with

some but not others. I am eager to please, loveable, well-mannered and easy.

Thank you Juggling Gypsy for a GREAT fundraiser and a fun night of belly dancing and FIRE! They raised $630 towards our HUGE vet bills!

Page 10: PawPrints Magazine September 2010

My name is Kohlie and I am a sweet Lab mix who was found as a stray in Pender County. Animal Control had seen me hanging out by the road a lot

but could never catch me. I had multiple litters of puppies and

they got hit by cars, but I would-n't leave them behind like a good mama. Finally, Animal

Control was able to get me and place me up for adoption. After about 6-months and no poten-tial adopters, Adopt-An-ANGEL

was contacted and they had enough room to take me in. I am good with cats, dogs and older children. I can be scared around loud noises

and new things but I do warm up quickly. Right now, until I gain some confidence, a small child might be too much for me. I love playing with other dogs, but will try to be

pack leader (not aggressive, just chasing and hair sticking up). I have wonderful house manners and have never barked or whined in the crate. I am very laid back and love just sitting or laying by your side. I am vaccinated,

spayed and undergoing heartworm treatment. If you would like to help chip in to pay for my heartworm treat-

ment, please mail a check (with “heartworms” in the memo line) to Adopt-An-ANGEL, P.O. Box 15095, Wil-

mington, NC 28408. If you would like to know more about me or would like to inquire about the adoption process,

please call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

I am sponsored by the Miss Avis Davis Fund, thanks!

◄Talk about being a heartmelter! I’m a darling boy named

Possum (26768) and I’m the family dog you’ve been searching for! In my photo, you can see

me sitting on command. I’m a pro at that! I also will shake hands and take treats very gently from your fingers. I’m

good with kids and other dogs and am already

vaccinated. I’m a 1-year-old Australian Cattle Dog

who loves head and neck rubs. I’m such a happy, friendly boy. Come visit and fall in love, please!

►Hello, friends! My name is Flower (28367)

and I’m an 8-year-old Chocolate Lab girl who was found as a stray. If you’re like me, your days

of chasing tennis balls are a thing of the past. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll

be happy to take companionable walks,

but I’d also be content to cuddle and watch TV.

I’m a loving, friendly girl who can sit on command

and catch treats in my mouth. I’d be so grateful

to share a comfortable, loving home with you.

◄Are you here to play with us? Or

better yet...are you here to adopt one of us? We are two pre-cious, darling kittens. My name is Jenny (28511) and I’m the

grey and white girl on the left. Next to me

is my blue/grey brother, Grady

(28510). You simply must come to the

shelter and meet us in person. If you think we’re cute

here, just wait! We love to be held and kissed and are 8-weeks-old. Our future families will be so lucky! We’re guaranteed to bring happiness to your soul every day.

◄I have the most expressive, adorable face! It’s such a shame this face is hidden from view in a cage at Animal Con-trol, don’t you think? My name is Chloe (28815) and I’m a 3-year-old girl who loves to interact with everyone who shows up at my door. I will rub my face against their fin-gers and happily let them run their hands all over me. I really wish I was part of a fam-ily! I’d be a friendly and loving new addition, that’s for sure.

◄How is it possible that a cutie-pie like me is with-out a family? Just look at my chubby cheeks. Don’t you want to kiss me? I’m an orange-colored boy named Cheeto (29260) and I am extremely loving and friendly. I greet all who come to my door and give head-butts into their hands. I just can’t under-stand why I’m still at the shelter! I was born to be an affectionate lap cat. Please come adopt me!

►I’m a well-trained family dog who ran into some bad luck recently when my family moved away. Now I’m hoping

to be adopted into another family, this time

fur-ever! My name is Anna (29119) and I'm a 1½-year-old German Shepherd/Doberman

mix. In the playroom, I sat on command and delighted everyone by catching treats in my mouth as they were tossed to me one by one! I’m also house-trained, good with children and good with dogs. I’ve al-ready been vaccinated and am ready to move into your heart and home. If you come visit, please take me into the playroom so you can see all my good qualities for

yourself. You’ll wonder how you got so fortunate to find a great girl like me!!

Where Is She Now? Ariel, re-named Pi Ling,

September 2009 Cover Model

She was found clinging to a piling in the Intracoastal Waterway, submerged to her shoulders and about 15 feet from shore. Today, the cal-ico kitten rescued by Pender County Animal Control is happily land-locked and en-joying life with Kenneth Layton, DVM, his wife Jeannie, and their three chil-dren, Micaela, Christopher and Jacob. Jeannie, who is the office manager for Ken-neth’s practice at Pine Valley Animal Hospital, recalls that fateful day, one year ago, when PawPrints Magazine arrived at the hospital door. “We always grab one as soon as it’s delivered,” she says. “CC, one of our employees, actually pointed her out on the cover. I thought, ‘She is so cute. There’s no way she’s still available.’” A phone call to Animal Control proved otherwise. Below, Jeannie describes Ariel’s introduction to the family and the joy she’s brought to their lives: “There was never a doubt that this little Manx was ours

from the minute we met her. She walked right in and took over. She made herself comfortable sleeping on the dogs and doing whatever she wanted to do. Her name at the time was Ariel, but that didn’t work for us, so given that she was found hanging on a piling in the Intra-coastal, we named her Pi

Ling. Pi Ling is fearless, but just as sweet and loving as can be. She loves to sleep on my chest at night, in be-tween breaks of playing with the three other cats. She doesn’t really meow at all, she chirps. If you ask her ‘What does the Pi Pi say?’ she just chirps back at you. When we leave the

house in the morning, she throws herself at the door as we walk out. When we come home at night, she is sitting in the front window, upstairs, waiting for us. As we walk in, there is always a gift at the door. It could be a stuffed ani-mal that weighs twice as much as she does, or even a dress, still on the hanger. All brought down a flight of stairs! Pi Ling has more toys than you can imagine. One day I found 22 ‘mice’ under the stove. That is embarrassing. She loves to play chase, play ‘monkey in the middle’ with us, look out all the windows and put nose smudges on them all. She is obsessed with water - remember where she was found - and plays a water game with Daddy every time he gets a drink. As you can tell, we are just SMITTEN with this kitty. There is just something about her that brings us so much joy, and she has helped us to start to heal over the deaths of our beloved dogs, Petey and Maggie. After they died, Pi was the only joy we felt. There’s no doubt she is here for a reason. She’s brought healing and laughter into our lives. As Ken says, she is the Pi Pi, the one and only Pi Pi. We love her very much.”

CAT: Cat Adoption Team

◄Have you ever met a cat who loves to listen to the radio? Now you can say you have! My name is Amanda and I just adore the sounds that come out of this amazing invention. My foster mom plays all kinds of tunes for me. I’m a very sweet girl, just 1-year-old and ready to meet my new family. I was found at Carolina Beach, quite near to the sand. Maybe I wanted to listen to the music of the seashells! Come adopt me, please.

►Hello! I’m a black Siamese mix girl named Kigali. Want to know what my favorite toy is

in the whole wide world? Laser lights! I have a fun time chasing those

things around. You see, I once was part of a loving home. That’s

where my fondness for laser lights was

discovered. But my owner moved away and

now I’m alone at the shelter. I’m a darling girl

who loves to be held and petted. At just 2½-years-old, I can’t understand why I’m homeless. Come meet me!

◄Looking for a Lap Cat? Well, just say the word, and I’ll warm your lap right on up. My name is Alice and I’m a 1-year-old girl who was found at Animal Control, running out of time. I had three kittens with me so Cat Adoption Team took us all home with them. I’m a very sweet orange and white girl who loves to be held and kissed. I’m good with children and other cats and have a friendly, playful nature. Let’s go home today!

◄I’m a declawed sweetheart with one blue eye and one green eye!

Add that in with my vibrant orange and white fur and you’ve got one colorful cat to live with!

My name is Curly and I’m an adult boy, at least 5-years-old. You see,

someone abandoned me in a cat carrier so my age

and background is a mystery. One thing we DO know is that I’m a

loveable, tender-hearted fellow who enjoys being

touched and caressed. I want to live indoors with you!

►We’re two silly, fun, fabulous

boys named Ronnie and Rufus! We are brother kittens who were found

with our mom, Alice, at Animal Control.

She’s also pictured on this page. At just 16-weeks-old, we are playful

fellows, but we also can become gentle lap cats when we get sleepy. We’re full of love and would bring so much joy to

your household. Adopt us separately or together!

◄Hi there! We are a

brother/sister pair named Ying and Yang. I’m

Yang, the girl on the right. We have the

sweetest dispositions.

We love to be petted and

purr loudly in gratitude. I will sit in your lap for as long as you like and

Ying will snuggle next to you. We also enjoy playing. We are good with other cats, dogs and kids and will fit right into your family. Open your home to us, together or separately!

Look how gorgeous I

am! My name is

Peaches and I’m fairly new to the shelter. You can’t tell by my smiling face, but my

earlier life was a sad one. I was

kept outside all the time and gave

birth to litter after litter of puppies. But

all that will change, I’ve been told! My friends say I’ll now be some-

one’s faithful household companion and, with my spay sur-gery all done, I’ll never have to worry about puppies again. I’m an 8-year-old, friendly and loving Golden Retriever mix. All I want is some TLC and a nice place to live. I lived in a foster home for a while and am fully house-trained. I dis-covered air conditioning is a wonderful invention! I’m also vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I’m not asking

for much, just kindness and good care. I’ll give you lots of love in return! Please call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297

and let’s get started on our new life together!

I am sponsored by Hank & Grace Harrington. Thanks!

URGENT, URGENT!

I’M RUNNING OUT OF TIME!

How can this be? I’m one of those loveable orange

Tabbies who only knows how to be

friendly and affectionate.

Doesn’t someone out there want to kiss my chubby

cheeks and take me home? My name is

Citrus (FM2225) and I’m a young

boy who has been living at Animal Control since June 15. It’s just bizarre

that I’ve been overlooked! I was born to be by someone’s side, or on their lap, or in their arms. I’m not picky! I do

love to be held and kissed and have easily stolen the hearts of the workers here. They really want me to find a great home. If you think you can provide one for me, or if you’d like to meet me, please call Pender County Animal

Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196. Officer Clewis can tell you what a great kitty I am and give you driving directions. Let’s get together soon!

I am sponsored by the Keffer family: Dixie, Luke,

Kira, Nikki and Charly. Thank you!

Cat Tails

◄They say dynamite comes in small pack-

ages and let me tell you it’s true! Being a little black cat with no tail, I

need a huge personality to get attention and let me say - I will liven up your house with non-

stop entertainment. My name is Sebastian and I am just 2-months-old. I am a “wild and crazy

guy” so I probably would not be the best with little kids. But if you want someone who

just likes to “play the fool,” I am the cat for you.

►Being named for the goddess of dawn, Aurora, I

better be beautiful. As you can see

from my picture, I really am! They

speculate that I am an Angora mix, with this beautiful long

hair that never gets tangled. Or maybe

it’s just the good conditioner I use? I have beautiful gold eyes, which look like the rising sun, and I am in the dawn of my life at only 7-months-old. So if you want a sweet

and loving young lady, come take me home.

►Thumbs, thumbs and more thumbs,

that’s what we have. You see, my sister, Josie, and I, Carlie

are polydactyl kitties. That means we have extra toes. We may look unhappy in this picture, but that was

just because we never had a picture

taken before and we were nervous! We have one brother,

Donovan, who also has extra toes and two other siblings

who are beautiful but no extra toes for

them. So if you want a cat who can play

catch with you, only kidding, come and see our big mitts.

Sandpaper kisses and purrs all around!

◄The prince and the frog. That’s what

they say about me, Flirt. This

is my best friend, Silas. I am the female Siamese mix and Silas is

the black and white tuxedo male. Every-

one thinks I am the beautiful one, but if you kiss Silas, he will turn into a prince. Our sad story is that we were adopted together several months ago, but then our

owner had to move and we could not go along. Imagine

how awful that would be? So we came back to our original home, Cat Tails,

where we are waiting for our next home. We are very playful, and really, really

love each other. If you could find it in your heart to keep us together, we would never make you regret the decision.

Ask Trish if she’ll make you a deal for the two of us.

▲Do I look like a Monkey, no, I don’t think so! I am a beautiful 2-year-old, female Seal-Point Himalayan mix.

My eye may look a little funny because I had eye surgery as a kitten, but don’t make fun of someone with a disabil-

ity. I am playful and love attention. I think I could get along with another cat who’s quiet and gentle or I would

be fine as an only cat.

JOSIE

Page 18: PawPrints Magazine September 2010

Dogs don’t come any finer than me.

My name is Sammy and I’m a 9-year-old boy

who is sad to have lost my

home. My former family is very sad, too, because they

loved me so much. You see, they recently had a child with a very

severe allergic reaction to ca-nines and they

made the difficult decision to bring

me to SOAR. They’ve shown me nothing but love in my lifetime and I’m praying that will continue with my new family. You see, I’m an awesome dog! I’m very well-trained - I know how to sit, shake with both paws, lay down and roll over. I’m house-trained, leash-trained and great with children. I’m an Australian Shepherd mix with one blue eye and one brown. I sleep on my dog bed at night and am already neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I have such a loving heart! Please, won’t you give me a second chance at a happy life? Call SOAR at 910-457-

6340 and tell them you’re ready to meet me.

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!

Hi, I’m Lucy, a very friendly

big white bunny who nearly

became lunch for someone’s

pet falcon. Considering

that I spent my whole life in a 2’ x 2’ cage, I have come a long way in 3-months. I had no idea bun-nies could do fun things like

jump on boxes, run really fast, or eat yummy

food like dandelion greens. One of my favorite things to do is when someone walks by my pen, I stand up and give

them my most adorable look so they just have to pet me, which I just love. I have to admit, I have my ornery mo-

ments, too. Like pretending I don’t hear when it’s time to go back in my pen or knocking the food scoop out of my foster mom’s hand just to watch the pellets fly everywhere. So if you are looking for a spirited, fun-loving, affectionate rabbit, here I am! To adopt me, please call 910-471-7854, email [email protected] or visit www.capefearrabbits.org

to view more adoptable rabbits.

I am sponsored by the UNCW Pre-Veterinary Medical Association. Thank you!

◄My biggest wish in life is to feel

loved and cher-ished. That’s not too much to ask, is it? My name is Taizer (A222030) and I’m a 2-year-old spayed girl. I love being petted

and rubbed so much that I’ll

make biscuits. I was surrendered to the shelter because my owner did not want me anymore. If you are looking for a laidback feline friend and won’t view me as disposable, please adopt me!

▲We’re Sully, Sophie and Birdie (A243187-89, pictured left to right) and we’re super sweet, uber soft kitties. Our medium length fur is softer than the softest silk in the world! We were brought to the shelter by our owners because they were mov-

ing into an apartment that didn’t allow us to continue being part of the family. We’re spayed or neutered, 8-months-old, social, loveable, friendly, good with kids and gorgeous! One of us loves to sleep with you, one likes to sit in your lap and talk and the other is playful and full of purrsonality. You’ll

have to come out and meet us to figure out who’s who! You can adopt one, two or all three of us. Your choice!

►Would you like a gentle, obedient dog to sit by your

side? Or how about a sweet, sincere and loyal

companion? That’s great because I’m all of those

things!! I’m Peaches (A242136), a peaches and

cream colored Labrador and Shepherd mix. I’m

just 2-years-old, know how to sit on command and

have been spayed. Don’t miss out on the chance to be cherished by a dog like

me. Adopt me today!

►G’day, mate! My name is Drover (A242614) and I’m an Australian Cattle Dog. I was found as a stray on a busy road so they brought me here to safety. I’m 2-years-old,

neutered, know how to sit on command and I like to play with tennis balls. I’ll even kick them around with my front paws! I’m

dreaming of finding some-one who knows and loves my breed and is ready to have fun. I am eager to

please and ready to work. Heck, I might even be a great Frisbee dog. My new

home should have a fenced yard to keep me safe when I go out to play. If you could open up your heart and home

to me, I would be forever indebted to you!

◄Meow, meow. My name is Bing Clawsby (A243175) and I’m a very nice cat. I’m approxi-mately 1½-years-old and have already been neu-tered. I was brought to the shelter because I was no longer wanted by my family. It broke my heart but I’m still willing to love someone again. I’m su-per affectionate, love to be rubbed on and will even push my face into your hand for some lov-ing. Would you let me love you?

►Hi, I’m Barnaby Bones (A241629) and I’m a

Shepherd and Great Dane mix who is 2-years-old. I

was surrendered to the shelter because the “cat of

the house” was afraid of me. Obviously, he was

the one with the problem but I am the one paying

the consequence. I know how to sit, lay down and shake on command and

will take treats gently from your fingertips. I’m a big

dog with a big heart.

Hi there, I’m Grady, also known as

"Surfer Dude"! I’m so enjoying my wonderful foster home at

Bald Head Island with the Cloud family. That’s me,

pictured with my foster

mom. Unfortu-nately, my time

with this wonderful family is growing short and I really need to get a home of my own. Just a few weeks prior, I was found all alone as a stray, eating out of trash cans. The Cloud family was vacationing here from South Africa and

contacted the rescue about fostering a shelter dog. I seemed to be a perfect match. I am one of those "designer

breeds", black Lab and Basset, probably the product of a backyard breeder. I am thought to be around 1½-years-old and am working hard on my house-training, crate-training, and leash walking. I am great with all other animals and will run up happily to greet folks and other dogs. I have

short legs like a Basset and weigh around 45 to 50 pounds, so I’m a great mid-weight dog. I am heartworm negative, neutered and vaccinated. Please email [email protected] or call 910-622-0011 to arrange a "meet

up" with me. Oh, by the way, I LOVE to swim now.

I am sponsored by the Karl Miller family. Thanks!

This friendly, happy face be-

longs to me, Kai! I’m a 1-year-old

girl who is search-ing for a forever family. I used to belong to some-

one, but they lived in an apartment and there just wasn’t much

room. Now I’m at the shelter, hoping

to find a family who has a fenced-in yard for me to play in! I’m al-ready house-

trained and crate-trained and I will sleep in bed with you, if it’s allowed. No one is quite sure what I’m mixed with - perhaps Husky or Akita - but I’m a beauty, that for sure. I am good with children and lived

with a 3-year-old and an 8-month-old in my former life. I’d prefer a cat-free home, but I get along just fine with other doggies. Why not come to the shelter and meet me? We can toss around a few toys and get to know each other. Call the New Hanover Humane Society at 910-763-6692

so we can get started!

I am sponsored by Levi Donovan. Please consider adoption.

◄I’m Belle, a long-haired black beauty. I love having company at the door of my cage to rub my face and talk to me. I also enjoy being held and cuddled. I would be a great companion for someone in a calm, quiet household. At just 6-years of age, I’m blind in one eye, but it doesn’t bother me and needs no medication. I’m spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Hurry over and let me melt your heart!

Please call about our low cost spay/neuter program.

◄Allow me to shake your paw! My name is Remington and I’m an 8-week-old orange and

white kitten with the power to steal hearts. I’ve stolen quite a few around here, but I’ve yet to meet my

future family. Once I do, I know they won’t be able to

resist my charms. You can’t be with me for more than two seconds without smiling or giggling. I’m a

happy, playful, purry kitten who brings joy to everyone around me. I am already neutered,

vaccinated and litterbox-trained and I get along well with children and other cats. Want to bring me home with you?

◄Did you ever think you’d have the chance to adopt a blue-eyed Himalayan boy? Well, this appears to be your lucky day. My name is Beau and I’m a 6-year-old sweetheart who is already neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. I am mostly chocolate with light tan and cream coloring mixed in. I’m extremely handsome! I’m also friendly, affectionate and purry. Come here and gaze into my baby blues.

◄Hello, dear readers! My name is Riley

and I’m looking for a loving family. At just 10-months-old, I’m a brindle Boxer mix girl with a lot of memories

to make in my new household. In my former life, I lived indoors with

my folks and played outside in the fenced-in yard. That kind of life

suits me! I was also able to sleep in bed at night with my family. I am

good with children and have a friendly, playful, energetic personality. In the

photo at right, I’m playing with one of my favorite toys at the shelter. I’m sure I’d have a

great time playing with toys in my new backyard with you! I

am already spayed, up to date on shots and on heartworm

prevention. And of course I’m house-trained. You won’t

have to worry about accidents in the house with me around.

I also get along well with other dogs. If you’d like to meet me,

call or come over!

►Hi, my name is

Buster and I’m a 1-year-old boy who

is making the best of life in a shelter. I

play with the other cats and have

found some toys that

keep me entertained. Still, I’d be very happy to wave goodbye to my shelter friends if it meant I was going home with you! It’s so sad not to have a family. I used to belong

to one, but they were forced to downsize. I am already neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Would you come visit me? I love to be touched and kissed and will be happy to show you what a fantastic kitty I am.

My favorite toy!

I get along well with all ages of dogs and cats. I also get along well with

children. I walk well on a leash, am house-trained

and even trained to use a doggy door. I have an easy temperament and am very easy-going and

laid back. I have had pre-vious issues with my back,

but I have been in my foster home for almost a year now and have not had an issue. Please be my forever family!

Any Corgi lovers out there? My name is Anna and I’m a Corgi mix, just 3-years-old. I

also have these lovely big ears which will put a smile on

your face every day! My story began when a lady

commuting from Wilmington to Jacksonville spotted me

sitting by the side of Highway 17 near Hampstead. She

was kind enough to stop and pick me up. Thank you, dear stranger! No one has ever

come forward to claim me, so now I’m waiting for my won-derful new home. I love, love, love children and would be so happy to live with one or more at my new place. I’m a

playful girl who is already house-trained and leash-trained. I have a friendly, social personality and am already

spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. Is there room in your home and heart for me? If so, please

◄My name is Winston and I’m a 22-month-old boy who weighs 45 pounds. I’m a very handsome mixed-breed. Perhaps Lab and Whip-pet? Whatever I am, I’m completely adorable! I am house-trained, great with children, friendly to other dogs, and very obedient. I love playing and going for walks. And yes, I’m neutered, vaccinated and on heart-worm prevention. You’ll love me, I promise!

►I’m a small Hound - just 30 pounds - and I was

found as a stray in South Carolina. My name is Juliet and I’m a sweet,

gentle, 1-year-old girl who would love to live in a quiet

home with my very own Romeo. I play extremely well with other dogs and enjoy taking walks. I’m

looking for a person or fam-ily with a fenced-yard and a desire to share their life

with a good-natured girl like me. I’m already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm pre-vention. How about giving this Juliet a very happy ending?

◄Ready to meet your new best friend? Here I am! My name is Skittles and I’m a

5-month-old puppy girl. They tell me I’m a Jack

Russell/Hound mix. What a cute combo! I

am 20 pounds now, but should be around 30

when fully grown. I am a super dog! I’m friendly to both men and women,

good with children, house-trained, spayed,

vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I will sit on command and

I play well with submissive dogs. You’ll love me! ►My name is Sugar Pie and I’m a 3-year-old Redbone/

Bloodhound mix girl. I have floppy ears as

soft as butter and I also have the most kissable

mouth. In fact, I’m kissin’ people all the

time because I’m extremely friendly and affectionate. I enjoy

playing and being with people. I love other

dogs, too. I really want to be part of a family. Would you let me be

your new baby girl? I’ve been at Paw’s Place a long time!

►All dressed up and nowhere to go...unless

you adopt me! My name is Luna and I’m a 2-year-old

Terrier mix. I’m a laid-back, easy-going girl and I like

getting attention. Folks tell me I’m awesome and that I have NO issues. I’ll play with anyone (except cats, they get me a little too ex-

cited). I love other dogs and I love people, especially

kids. I behave beautifully at adoption fairs and am instant

friends with all who ap-proach. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and on heart-worm prevention. Please adopt me so we can enjoy the rest of the year together!

◄Hello! My name is Petey and I’m a 28

pound Jack Russell mix who has been through

some sad times. I used to have a wonderful home but my owner became very ill and I

was brought to the shel-ter. I sure do hope to be

part of another family soon! I’m house-trained, neutered, and friendly to all the humans I meet,

including kids. I’d prefer to be the only other dog

in the household and am leash-trained. I’m 12-years-young and am active and in great health. Let’s meet!

My foster mom says the one who adopts

me will be very lucky, indeed! She bottle-fed me as a baby and that

has made me very comfortable and affec-

tionate toward hu-mans. I’m a great

companion who loves to spend time with people and I’ll even

sleep in bed with you, if it’s allowed. I’m so purry and friendly and I’m also quite bright - I

know my name (it’s Lexi) and I come

when called. At 4½-months-old, I’m a girl

who is small for my age - I resemble a much younger kit-ten. I do get along well with the cats in my foster home, and I love playing with their tails! I am already spayed,

vaccinated and litterbox-trained. All you have to do is give me a great home and lots of love. That’ll be easy with a

wonderful kitten like me. Please call my SOAR foster mom at 910-278-7901 and tell her you’d like to meet me!

My name is Leia and I am a 4-year-old fe-

male merle with natu-ral ears. I am a very tall, young lady who has a great tempera-

ment and is very playful. I am almost house-trained and

handle the leash flaw-lessly. I warm up

immediately to women and more slowly to

men. At this point in my life, I am very needy for attention and should only be in a household that can afford to spend a great deal of time with me. My socialization skills need work and I

haven't been tested around children. I am also very alert to strange noises, doorbells, and people at the door. I have been losing hair so I went to the vet and the test

results are pending. For more information about me or to give me a forever home, please contact the NC Chapter Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League by calling Terri

at 252-566-8934 or visiting their website at www.magdrl.org.

IF YOUR DOG IS NOT COMING TO YOU...YOU SHOULD BE COMING TO US!

Looking for a kinder, gentler, way of training? Is your dog more than just property? Do you want a dog that WANTS to please you instead

of a dog that is afraid of you? A Not For Profit Service Organi-zation since 1971, Azalea Dog Training Club (ADTC) has been the longest continuing Canine Training School in the area. Other training programs have come and gone, ADTC is still here! An all-volunteer organization, ADTC is proud of its many Certi-fied Instructors who are among the best trainers in the nation in Obedi-ence, Agility, Rally Obedience, Conformation, Tracking and/or Herding. All began training hop-ing for a pet with good manners! Our Instructors, including those holding multiple OTCH’s, multiple Agility CH’s and MACHs, have over 300 years combined experi-ence, continue their education by

attending seminars in order to pro-vide the very best to the public! Our volunteers’ “payday” is when a student team completes a level of training with a smile knowing they have accomplished a goal. A goal met without pain, fear or intimida-tion. All classes, at all levels of training, practice the three P’s: Practice, Patience, and Praise! The loving bond developed between handler and companion is the most impor-tant part of our training program. The dogs in training are people’s best friends and faithful companions - don’t they deserve to be trained with a loving, respectful hand?! YES they do! ADTC believes in giving to the community. Since the 1970’s ADTC has been visiting area As-sisted Care and Rehab Centers. Presently our teams visit two times a week, every week! ADTC also provides School Safety Programs in a five county area, without charge. ADTC has been invited over the years to participate in multiple County events. ADTC was a pio-neer in the area for helping our wonderful Shelters and Rescue Groups. Adoptees’ owners are of-fered a reduced rate for training classes, and have been since the early 1970’s. Area Humane Socie-

ties benefit from ADTC donating funds, food and various supplies throughout the year. Continuing Community Service includes hosting Tattoo, Microchip, and Rabies Clinics and special en-joyable times for all in the recording of memories of our companions through the magical images of Paw-Prints Magazine’s Cover Photogra-pher, Dick Parrott. ADTC’s training building, the larg-est, climate controlled, fully matted facility in the area, is located 8 min-utes north of Odgen on US 17, just past Whitebridge Estates. This is a very short distance considering the quality of training! Isn’t your com-panion worth the ride?! We think he is! ADTC’s prices are comparable to others in the area, and less than most!

Hello! My name is Jed and I’m a yellow and white 1-year-old Lab/

Husky mix. I’m presently en-rolled in the Pawsitive Partners Prison Program learning all the

skills to make me a better canine companion. I’ll let you in on a

little secret, but don’t mention it to my trainer. I’m not much on this extra-education stuff; but I sure would love to lavish you with plenty of kisses up on a

front porch or backyard, and if needed even send out an alarm-ing bark at a stranger. The next

nine weeks are going to be a serious challenge for me, but I promise you I will get through

it: just be waiting for me, as I’m eager to be with you. Oh! By the way, my good looks aren’t the only thing this country canine has going for him. I’m crate-trained and up to date on all my shots. So! If you read between the lines, I’m one of a kind. For more information, visit www.montyshome.org,

email [email protected] or call910-262-3055.

Written for Jed by his inmate trainer Maurice P. Jed is sponsored by Barb Raab in loving memory of

Cliff.

I may not be able to sing and dance like Sammy Davis Jr., but I’m full of

personality, just like him! That’s how I got my

name, Davis. I’m a 2-year-old Chihuahua/Feist

mix who was surren-dered to Animal Control when my owner could no longer take care of me. Pender County Humane Society has taken me in and I’m charming every-

one with my adorable ways. I’m under 15

pounds and am house-trained, leash-trained, neutered, vaccinated, and on

heartworm prevention. Sounds like everything’s already taken care of, so all you have to do is enjoy me! I get

along well with other dogs and pay cats no mind. I just know my forever family is waiting out there for me

somewhere, so how about giving the shelter a call? The phone number is 910-259-7022. Don’t make me wait!

I am sponsored by WilmingtonForSale.com in honor

of Ryan Amador. Thank you!

Are You A True Cat Lover? Please Read My Story!

My name is Rusty and I’m a declawed boy who is ex-

tremely affectionate. Noth-ing makes me happier than

cuddling in someone’s lap or being held in their arms. But

something just happened and it caused me to lose my home. You see, I was diag-nosed with FIV. That’s why I

asked if you’re a true cat lover. If you are, then I bet you know what FIV is. You must know that FIV may never directly affect my life as long as I’m given the same quality care that any other cat receives. A suppressed immune

system is no reason for me to be euthanized, or to remain homeless for the rest of my days. Just keep me indoors,

give me good food, good love and regular vet care and I’m on the right path to staying healthy! Wouldn’t you do that for any cat? It would also be necessary for me to be the only cat in the household. On the other hand, if your cat also has FIV, I would be an excellent companion. I’m al-ready neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. At 9-

years of age, I don’t deserve the indignity of homelessness. Would you please have compassion for me and take me

home where I belong? Call SOAR at 910-457-6340 to find out more, and thank you for caring about my future!

I am sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their

wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the Rainbow Bridge.

We are Annabelle and Nala and we’re a mom and daugh-ter team of “teacup” Saint Bernards. We are purebred but we weigh under 80 pounds each! And since we are best

friends, we are hoping that someone will adopt us to-gether. We were running loose in Onslow County. Luck-ily, our foster mom found us and we have been living the

good life ever since! We like to play outside but being inside with people makes us happiest of all. We are still a bit shy with new people, but we are very affectionate and playful once we learn to trust you! We love kids and other dogs and have even learned that cats do not really like to be chased! We have been treated for heartworms and

have been spayed and vaccinated. Now we just need a forever home. Maybe with you? If you are interested in adopting us, contact Cape Fear Saint Bernard Rescue

910-547-4823 or email [email protected].

We are sponsored in loving memory of Calvin and Hobbs.

URGENT, URGENT! We Need to Find Homes Soon!

Hi there, my name is Page and this is my best friend Coal. We’ve lived in a

home together for many years and are so sad to be searching for a new place to lay our heads. It would be

wonderful to be adopted together, but we can be adopted separately if we

each go to a loving home. I’m an 8 to 9-year-old female Shepherd mix and I’m a 95 pound teddy bear. Coal is an 8-year-old male Lab mix with an easy smile and a loving personality. We are house-trained, obedient and eager to please. We love going for walks, playing with children above

the age of six and we have lived har-moniously with a cat. We would be great companions for anyone. We are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations and on heartworm pre-vention. Because we’ve lived in a home all our lives, we have great house manners and are well-adjusted, social,

friendly dogs. Would you please consider adopting one of us? Or perhaps both? We promise to give you so much love and so much companionship! You’ll never be lonely again. Please call the Sunburst Foundation at 910-622-0011 or email [email protected] for more

info. Hope to meet you soon!

We are sponsored by Hank and Grace Harrington.

NOW OPEN - Noon to 4pm on Saturdays!

At just 8 pounds, I steal the hearts of everyone I

know! My name is Delilah, and I’m a

5-year-old purebred toy Schnauzer who is all white

in coloring with cropped ears and a docked tail. Unfortunately, I didn’t come from the best of

situations and am being treated for medical problems. Don’t let this deter you from

adopting me, however, because I’m as sweet as can be and will follow you everywhere. I am spayed, microchipped, up to

date on my shots, have had a dental, have had a full blood panel, and am heartworm negative. I’m on pain medication each day for an apparent back injury that was never treated, and I have some skin allergies which is the reason my coat isn’t as full as it should be. The vet has all confidence that my new medicine is going to make me a beautiful girl in no

time. I also have a low-grade heart murmur, but no medicine is needed for that. All in all, my monthly medicines are

around $50. I am working on my house-training and doing well. I need a special place on someone's lap who is home

most of the time and who has a very quiet environment and a low activity lifestyle. If you are interested in me, please visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org to find out more.

You can also see other adoptable rescues. If you can’t go to the website and need an application mailed or faxed, please

call 910-264-8300.

I am sponsored by State Farm Rob Cutting Insurance Agency in loving memory of Mulligan.

Hi there, my name is Uno! I was found running

down a busy street in Burgaw. A kind couple came to my

rescue and now I’m waiting for a

permanent, loving home. I’m a fe-male American Staffordshire

Terrier mix, just 3-years-old. My per-sonality could best

be described as friendly and fun-

loving. I am spayed, vacci-nated, house-

trained and leash-trained. I love to be petted and enjoy playing tug-of-war with my rope toys. Pender County

Humane Society wants me to go to the best home possi-ble, so you must be experienced with handling my breed. A fenced-in yard is also a necessity and I’d prefer to be

the only four-legged companion in the household. Since I’m a playful, active girl, I would do best in a home with adults-only or older children, not tiny ones. If you think

we could be a match, please call the shelter at 910-259-7022. I’ll get my rope toy ready for your visit!

I am sponsored by Pine Valley Animal Hospital in

memory of David Collins, Daddy of Cheyenne.

◄URGENT, URGENT! My time

is running out! This is my second appearance in the

magazine! I’m hoping and praying that you’ll come meet me soon. My name is Jackson (CM2675) and I’m a young boy who was found as a stray. I’m

now at Animal Control’s shelter, enduring the warm temperatures in my outside kennel as I await a new family. It will be so good to get in an air-conditioned

house one day! I’m a friendly, playful, happy fellow with caramel-colored fur. I’m probably mixed with Lab and I like to please the humans around me. Would you please make

my dream of a family come true? Adopt me today!

►URGENT, URGENT! My time is running out!

My name is Ashleigh (FF2217) and I’ve been

here since June 9! Won’t someone please adopt me? I’m a beautiful pastel Calico

girl who is tired of shelter life. All I want is to simply rest in someone’s loving

arms. How about yours? I once had a home, but my

owner could no longer afford to keep me and

brought me to the shelter. I’m a sweet, friendly, loving

girl and I’ve been waiting for a new family all summer. Please hurry to the shelter and adopt me!

◄I’d be such a great addition to any family! Come to the shelter and I’ll prove it’s true. My name is Coby (FM2524) and I’m a neutered boy with orange and white fur. I’m quite handsome! I was found as a stray and am very friendly. I get along very well with the other cats here, but I wouldn’t mind saying goodbye to them when you come adopt me! Let’s get together soon.

►URGENT, URGENT! My time is running out!

Would you be the one to give me a second chance at life? I’m Jelly Bean (FF1955) and

I’ve been living at Animal Control since my arrival in

March of this year. That’s far too long for a beauty like me to be all alone. Won’t you please come meet me? The shelter is now open on Saturdays! I’m a

friendly, gentle and highly affectionate Tortoiseshell girl.

Call today for directions and let’s meet very soon!

►We’re sharing a cage and

getting along great, but we’re not related. My name is Phillip

(FM2453, on the left) and this

is my good buddy, Nick, (FM2386, on

the right). We each were

found as strays, me in Rocky

Point and Nick in Burgaw. I arrived at the shelter on July 28 and Nick arrived a little earlier, on July 15. We are 12 to 16-week-old kittens who love to play and cuddle. We have darling personalities and hope to be with our new

families very soon! Come visit and get to know us.

►I’m quite a favorite around here due to my loveable personality and friendly

attitude. I love people and just can’t wait to be touched

or talked to. They call me Mr. Puddin’ Head (FM2249)

and I’m an orange boy who was found as a stray. One

of my ears is misshapen due to an old injury, now healed.

It doesn’t bother me and I think it gives me character! I’m just a big ol’ sweetie pie

who desperately needs a lap to curl up in. Adopt me!

I’m all dressed up for my

photo! Don’t you think I’m the prettiest Rottweiler

you’ve ever seen? My

name is Mama Roxy and I’m so

happy to meet you. A few

months ago, I wandered up

to Paw’s Place in sad shape.

I had a condition where the eyelids turned inward, irritating the eyes. My new friends got me to the doctor and he

corrected the problem with surgery. Now I’m feeling great and batting my eyes at everyone! I’m a 6-year-old girl

who is spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I’m extremely gentle and good with children. At 70

pounds, I have a very loving personality and I’m also house-trained. It would be so wonderful to share my life with a nice family - how about yours? Please call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297. They’ll be happy to tell you what

a beloved companion I would be!

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!

Hello, my name is Bree! I'm a fun-loving and social dog!

I love long walks on the beach (or anywhere!), play-ing in the ocean, and play-ing with other dogs. I am very family oriented and

enjoy following my friends everywhere they go! I'll follow you around, too! I

have adjusted easily into my new foster home, and

though I may feel a little sad when you leave for work, I'll be just fine with other pets or a toy or two. I love being out in the yard and won't get into any mischief digging things up, trying to escape, or bark-

ing at passers-by! I'll play fetch all day long if you'll let me, though my foster parents tell me I need to learn how to share my toys a little better. I sometimes feel sensitive

around my hindquarters when being groomed, but if we're playing I won't even notice. I will make a great addition to

any family - I'm great in social situations, with kids, and with other large dogs - although sometimes I am a little too interested in small dogs. I know all the basic commands,

like sit, stay, wait, shake, and down and will do almost anything for a treat! I really LOVE to eat! I'm a strong

eater (I even drool at the thought of food!) but I'm not food aggressive. You can take my food from me anytime - just promise to give it back! I can't wait to meet you! Please

call 910-431-6294 or visit www.nobleshepherdrescue.com for more information or to fill out an application.

I am sponsored in loving memory of Drea, beloved member of Aunt Kerry's Family.

You will be missed.

◄My eyes are as blue and beautiful as the sea.

Wouldn’t you love to gaze into them every morning as you wake

up? They will take your breath away. It isn’t

often that you see such crystal blue eyes on a black and white kitty. My name is Raccoon

and I have another distinctive feature. The end of my tail is striped

like a raccoon! (Yes, that’s how I got my name.) I’m a young girl who is extremely

affectionate. I love to be cuddled and I get along great with the other cats here. You will be so happy you adopted me!

◄Who’s ready for a lifetime of kisses and cuddles with me? My name is Ivy and I’m a darling female orange kitten, born around May 17. I was found sitting by the side of Highway 117 (and was named Ivy in honor of my rescuer who caught a case of poison ivy while retrieving me!) As you can see from my photo, I’m extremely adorable and very playful. I also love to be held and kissed. Drive on over and fall in love with me!

◄Mew there! My name is Perdita and it’s a very appropriate name. You see, it’s of Latin origin and means ‘lost girl’. I once found myself lost on the highway, but a

good Samaritan stopped her car and brought me

to Pender County Humane Society. I’m a happy, playful girl who was born around June 10th of this year. I love

to hop, skip and purr and I also love cuddling with

humans. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Come hold me!

►If you don’t mind me bragging, I’d like you to notice how I’m sitting on command! My name is

Brandy and I’m very proud of my sitting skills. I watch people intently and really try to please

them. I’m a 14-month-old Bluetick Hound mix who is already house-trained and leash-trained. I love greeting all the new folks who come to the shelter and I get along very well with kids, too! And yes, I

am already spayed, vaccinated and on heartwom prevention. Adopt me!

◄It’s hard to imagine that a friendly, loveable girl

like me was running out of time at Animal Control!

That’s where Pender County Humane Society found me. My name is

Bacall and I’m a 2-year-old female Lab mix who

never meets a stranger. I am already house-trained

and leash-trained and I get along great with

men, women and even those miniature humans called children. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and

on heartworm prevention. I sure would love to meet you!

►We three kittens are going to swing in

this hammock until our new familes show

up at the door. Can you hurry? We’re getting

dizzy! My name is

Sammy and I’m on the far left. In the middle is Alex, and on the far right is Danielle,

the only girl. We were born on June 15 of this year and are sweet, precious, loveable babies. Come pick one of us!

Need some razzle-dazzle in your life? Adopt me, I’m

Razzie! I’ll make you hap-pier than you’ve ever been. I’m a purebred Chihuahua

girl who was raised in a loving home with two Per-

sian cats. Not too long ago, our owner died. She

adored us and gave us lots of attention. That’s why I’m such a sweet and loving girl.

I enjoy being held and kissed and will cuddle up in bed with you, if it’s allowed.

At just 4-years-old, I’m spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I am house-trained and will stand at the door when I need to

answer nature’s call. I listen well and am great on a leash. I know how to come on command and I get along well with

other dogs. Gee, I’m friendly to cats, dogs and humans and sweet as pie to boot - what more can you ask for? Call

SOAR at 910-457-6340 and let’s arrange a get-together!

I am sponsored by Vivian Vanove in loving memory of her faithful, loving companion, Lucky.

Hi! I am a tiny, sweet, very affec-tionate girl named

Mitzi who is looking for my forever

home. I am a pure-bred white Persian with large copper-colored eyes and a

grand-champion lineage. As you can see from my photo, I have the extreme (flat) face that my

breed is so famous for. Yes, I am the definition of a couch potato, but I also like to play with the laser pointer and other toys. I am definitely an indoor-only cat due to the fact that, at 5½ pounds, I am an easy target for preda-

tors. I do get along with dogs and other cats. I was born on May 15, 2006. Unfortunately, my owners have to relo-cate and cannot keep me. I have an established vet and am spayed, current on all vaccinations and even come

with 4-months worth of Advantage Multi which protects me from fleas, ear mites and intestinal parasites as well as

heartworms. If you’d love to share your life with a beautiful girl like me, please call 910-619-5794.

◄I guess you could call me a

man-made Manx. You see, when I was born, I had a tail. Somehow it

got infected. That’s when my friends at SOAR found me. They got me to a vet and the tail

was removed. My name is Vinnie and I’m a 5-month-old

boy who is quite happy with my tail-less bottom. I am very playful and I love everyone I meet. You should come visit

me and give me a cuddle. I bet I will melt your heart.

▲I’m a rare orange female named Ava and this precious kitten next to me is my son, Cody! You see, most

orange cats are males, but not me. I’m a 1-year-old girl with the sweetest and friendliest personality. Cody, at

just 5-months-old, is a born entertainer. He hops around the cage, playing with toys and making everyone smile.

We can be adopted together or separately, so hurry over!

◄Hi there, friends! We are three sweet orange and white

boys and we’d each like to find a wonderful home. From left to right,

we are Gizmo, Will and Rosco. We

were found as stray kittens and are just 4-months-old. We are very friendly

and playful and you can hear us purring from a mile away. Hurry on over and hold us in your arms!

▲Hi there! My name is Emily and this is my sister, Abby. Once upon a time, we lived in a loving home, but all that changed when our owner passed away.

We are declawed girls who enjoy being petted. I’m a bit shy (but very sweet) and Abby is social. We’d love

to go to our new homes together as a pair.

◄Two declawed, affectionate Persian girls are waiting to be yours! We are Polly (at top) and Hannah (at bottom) and we once had a loving home, but our owner died. She brushed us every night and gave us lots of attention. That’s why we are so sweet and friendly! We’re used to dogs and are just 4-years of age. Adopt us together, please!

◄I’m a beautiful and healthy female Torti (long-haired)

who was found abandoned as a baby. Today, at 12-weeks-old, I am more than

ready to adopt a family. My

foster parents have taken very

good care of me. I’ve had all shots and have been spayed. I get along well with other kitties and even the

family dog. The humans call me Macy, but the other cats in the household know me as Lady Go-Go because I play so much. If you’d like to meet me and feel my soft fur, call

my SOAR foster mom at 910-278-4437.

excited. I’m very smart and I’ve been to obedience school so I’m quite familiar with commands such as ‘sit’. Adopt me!

◄I’m Rosie! I’m a medium-sized Pug/Spitz mix and, at

just 4-years-old, I’m a smart, friendly girl who would be a great agility dog. I adore

children and am friendly to adult humans as well! I am doing fine in getting along with other dogs and have

been working with an obedi-ence trainer. I would love to continue obedience training with my new family. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and on

heartworm prevention. You’d be so lucky to share your life with a great girl like me!

◄Hello! I’m Lola and I’m a very sweet and loving girl. I’m a 3-year-old Shepherd

mix and all I want is to please and be loved. I do have an old cruciate liga-ment injury which requires me to stay on glucosamine chondroiton for my lifetime. I interact very well with lar-ger dogs who are laid back, and it would be helpful if I were hand walked on a

regular basis to strengthen my muscles. I’m doing

beautifully in my foster home and hope to soon find a forever family. Let’s arrange a visit, okay?

FUNDS DESPERATELY NEEDED!

Friends of Felines is an all volunteer, non-profit organization that is pleading for your help to raise

desperately needed spay/neuter funds. Without these funds, Friends of

Felines cannot continue its mission, which is to reduce the

overpopulation of feral cats through a trap/spay-neuter/

vaccination and return program, essentially helping these cats live

happier, healthier lives.

All donations are tax deductible and all money goes directly to the cats.

PLEASE HELP THE CATS. Every penny collected is pledged to help feral cats of New Hanover County. Please mail your donation to:

I’m ready for my close-up! Don’t you think I be-long in front of the camera? My name is

Buster and I’m a Shih Tzu/Maltese mix. I’m about 3-

years-old and weigh approxi-

mately 12 pounds. Not too

long ago, I found myself at Animal Control where I was running out

of time. NC Rescue League has given me a second chance at finding what so many other doggies have: a permanent home and a loving family! I’m currently in a foster home where I’m getting along just fine with my

foster brothers and sisters (they’re dogs, too.) I’m work-ing very hard on my house manners and my foster mom

says I’m a “good little boy with a good temperament.” She also says I have the most beautiful caramel-colored

eyes. I like to be cuddled and get in your lap, and at night I enjoy sleeping in my little dog bed. Toys and chew sticks are a couple of my faves! If you’d like to

adopt me, please call NC Rescue League at 910-232-5253 or visit their website at www.ncrl.petfinder.com to

see more photos of me and others available for adoption!

New Book for Homeless Pets In the summer of 2009, Wilmington, NC artist Clair Hartmann began an ambitious effort to paint one hundred dogs in one hundred days. Her four-legged subjects were all visitors to her booth located at the Farmer's Market by the Cape Fear River, in Wilmington's Historic District. These dogs-about-town are showcased in her recently released book, "The Downtown Dog Project...100 dogs in 100 days". A labor of love, her book is a colorful collec-tion of canines which dog lovers everywhere are sure to enjoy. Please visit www.thedowntowndogproject.com for a preview or to purchase your copy. All of the proceeds from the online sales go to Adopt-an-ANGEL.

An Evening of Fundraising Fun! The Ruffian Foundation, which provides a sanctuary for feral cats, invites you to an evening of fundraising fun! The event will be held on Friday, September 24th, at 7pm at Una Luna Art Gallery in Chandlers Wharf, 225 S. Water Street in Downtown Wilmington. There will be wine tasting, great food, raffle prizes and music by The Schoolboys Band (classic, southern, and blues rock). There will also be an artworks reception for Robin Hix of Texas, who creates colorful, hand-painted photographs. A $5 donation (tax-deductible) will be gratefully accepted at the door for much needed cat food, bedding, medical care, etc. All proceeds benefit the growing feral cat sanc-tuary, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, all volunteer, charitable or-ganization. 5K Fun Run & Pet Walk Coming Soon Pet Friends of Duplin County is sponsoring its 2nd Annual 5K Fun Run and 3K Pet Walk on October 30 in River Landing near Wallace. Entry fee is $20 for individuals and $25 for families if purchased be-fore October 1. From October 1 to race day the price is $25 for individual and $30 for families. Urgent Plea for Foster Homes Since 2004, Adopt-An-ANGEL (AAA) has done over 4,000 adoptions. As part of their adoption contract, adopters agree to return the animal to AAA if for any rea-son it doesn’t work out. The adopters cannot leave these animals at animal controls if they cannot keep them any longer. Due to the economy, the group is seeing up to 5 dogs and cats returned to them each week. People are moving, losing jobs, getting paycuts, having babies, get-ting divorced, getting relocated due to new jobs and the list goes on and on. AAA has no shelter and relies on the generosity of boarding facilities and foster homes, who are also losing jobs and moving. Would you help by tak-ing in a homeless dog or cat that has been returned until AAA has room to take it in? Many of these returns are from adoptions long past, 6-months ago or longer. Their ability to rescue new dogs and cats has been seriously diminished as they instead recycle their past rescues. If you can help by providing emergency foster care, please call 910-392-0557.

Pawsitive Partners Prison Program On September 16th, the Beverly Hillbillies graduate and go to their new homes (a couple are still available if you’re looking for a great dog - up to date on shots, spayed/neutered, and has been in training for 9 weeks!) Also, on the same day, the program celebrates its 2nd anniversary! A howling good time is planned including the presence of past canine graduates. On September 20th, the next class is pulled from Pender County Animal Shelter. Those five will be named after the Little Rascals. Want to join in any of our canine adventures? To help, email [email protected] or call 910-262-3055. To see the dogs, visit www.montyshome.org.

Have a Heart, Help an Angel On August 12, Adopt-An-ANGEL (AAA) tested six dogs that entered their program and was delivered the devastating news that five of them were heartworm posi-tive. Heartworms are a treatable condition, but it is very costly even at the non-profit rate given to them by area vets. The more the dog weighs, the more expensive it is. Each treatment costs AAA between $300-$800. These dogs include Amy, a Rottie mix; Summer, a Labrador; Higgums, an American Staffordshire Terrier; Jazzy, a Chihuahua; and Big Lou, a purebred Neopolitan Mastiff who weighs 130 pounds! Big Lou, Jazzy and Higgums all lived together and were all relocated to AAA from Animal Control after their owner lost his job and was evicted. Please help them help Big Lou who is by far the most expensive, or help them help the others by do-nating to AAA. Just put heartworms in the memo line and mail it to Adopt-An-ANGEL, P.O. Box 15095, Wil-mington, NC 28408. All donations are tax deductible.

Cape Fear Dragon Boat Race Coming! Blue Hand Home has combined forces with Sunburst Foundation to present the first annual Cape Fear Dragon Boat Race and Festival to benefit Wounded Warriors and homeless animals in the community. Any age can partici-pate and boat teams should be mixed gender as well. Please check out the website for more info/photos, includ-ing date and time and how to reserve your boat at www.capefeardragonboat.com or call 910-622-0011.

My name is BlueBelle and I’m a Neapolitan Mastiff puppy. I’m approximately 1-year-old and already weigh 100 pounds! Neos are affectionate, strong, loyal family

dogs. We can also be protective and may develop domi-nance issues with other dogs as we mature. I am a goofy, playful puppy who loves everyone. I need to be adopted into a family that understands my breed and is committed to providing discipline and structure. Families with young children should consider a Saint Bernard instead! I had a

severe case of “cherry-eye” when I was rescued, but it was surgically corrected at the same time I was spayed. My vision is clear now and I’m healthy, fully vetted, and waiting patiently for the right family to call my own! I am requiring an application, a home visit, reference checks and adoption fee! If you are interested in adopting me,

please contact Cape Fear Saint Bernard Rescue at 910-547-4823 or email [email protected].

Three Little Kittens! My name is Joey and I'm an orange Tabby. My other two buddies are Sammy and Mikey. Sammy is really cute and he's a long-haired black and

white tuxedo kitten. He's about 3-months-old.

Mikey, who is the black kitten by the bowl, is also

3-months-old. I'm a month older. We were

all found fending for our-selves and are really

lucky we were rescued. We've all been tested for FIV and Feline Leukemia and were negative, we're also up to date on shots and we’re neutered. We have a lot of fun playing together but it's time for

us to have families of our own. Could you help us out? You could adopt one, two or three little kittens! Please call

910-271-3101 if you can, we'll be waiting for you.

Tails U Win Please call 910-250-3004 or email [email protected] to adopt us!

►Hello, there! My name is Victoria and this is my story. One night, the Tails U Win

lady was letting her dogs out for potties, and they took off

after a furry beast in the backyard. That furry beast ran right into the open door

of the Tails U Win lady's house because I guess that furry beast figured the living room was a safe place to go. LOL! The Tails U Win lady had to call her local Animal Control because that's what has to be done, then when

that Animal Control guy got there, the furry beast (ME!) just jumped right up into his arms and gave him kisses and

hugs and happy-happy tail wags. The Tails U Win lady just laughed so hard! I'm at a foster home now, still giving kisses and tail wags, playing with all my foster doggie friends and even playing with the kitty-cats. My doctor

thinks I'm about 10-months-old. This picture just doesn’t do me justice because I'm a beautiful tri-color Shepherd girl

with gorgeous brown eyes.

►I’m Mr. Oreo, a big sweetheart. I’m a black Lab mix with all the per-

sonality of a Lab. I’m ap-proximately 1-year-old and weigh close to 70

pounds. My foster Mom is working with me on leash

and I'm beginning to get pretty good at that, but what I love the most is

being outside and playing with all my foster buddies.

Please get in touch with Tails U Win and put in

your application to take me home to be your lovin'

baby boy, okay?

►My name is Corey and a big old meanie out there shot me in my front leg!

Oh no! Tails U Win got me to the vet and got my leg all fixed. My vet thought I would have a big limp, but

I showed him just how strong I am, because I

hardly limp at all now. I’m about 3-years-old. I'm

having a blast playing with all my kitty and doggie

friends at my foster home. After all I've been through, my foster Mom says I need a home that will spoil me totally

rotten. I promise to give a whole lifetime of kitty purrs!

◄Hi, there! My name is Jetta. I was at Animal Control but

they brought me here to Tails U Win so that I could have

a foster home. I was adopted, but the

other doggies at my new home didn't like me, so now I have to find another home.

I'm a gorgeous short-fur Border Col-

lie mix who is just way too sweet and smart to boot! I'm

about 6-months-old now and I'm having a blast playing with my foster doggies, pups, kitties and cats. I'm all

crate-trained and I'm almost house-trained, too!

►Hello, PawPrints readers! My name is Mallie and I’m hoping to find my forever family. My foster mom says she has a hard time choosing the best word to de-

scribe me. She says I'm sweet, energetic, playful, happy, affec-tionate and I just love to be near my humans and cuddle-snug!

I'm approximately 8-months-old, but I'm only about 45 pounds, so I'm not going to be very big. We thought I was a Terrier mix when I was a pup, but my fos-

ter mom says I look like I've got the slender frame of a Greyhound or something like that. I still do love to chase the kitty-cats, but I don't chase them to be mean. I just

want them to play with me! I'm just a good, all around girl looking for a family to love!

►My name is Diver. I was found running on the streets.

I was not feeling too good when the nice ladies with

the rescue took me in. My eye was really infected and it was removed. I started feeling better right away! I love to lay in bed with my

foster mom so she can rub me all over and I can purr like a little kitty-machine. If you can go online, then go to

www.pawprintsmagazine.com so you can see my totally gorgeous, unique, orange-cream-lollipop fur!

My name is Maxwell Peanut! I am one beautiful Border

Collie and a fool for a squeaky toy! In the first part of my life, I was tied to a post for 2-YEARS!

No Fun! I’m trying to make up for the time I missed by having as much fun as I

can. I have earned a Good Canine Citi-zen Award and my

foster mom has taught me a lot of commands. I am

not so good with the recall command, (there are just so many interesting things to find out about in the world!) so I hope the next home I move to has a fence. I like to play

with other dogs (kids too) and I’m 3½ -years-old. I am spayed, up to date with all my shots and weigh approxi-mately 40 pounds. If you are interested in adopting me, please call Carolina Border Collie Rescue at 919-682-6125. You may also visit our website at CBCR.org for more information about me and other dogs currently

available for adoption.

Unemployed Working Dog, Needs a Job! Everyone calls me

"Fun Fletcher!" I am a playful goof who

would love a little boy of my own to play

with or a job to do. I love to run and play, chase balls, throw Frisbees and balls

around and can even humor myself when I am alone. I am agile and I can gracefully clear a 4-foot chain link fence like I am jumping hurdles. Actually, I would make a great agility dog since I can climb chain link and even a wooden pri-vacy fence especially when I am bored. I need to be an

indoor dog who is leash walked. I am super smart, too. I know “sit” and “down” and you can actually see my

wheels turn as I try to figure out my next escape! I am so gentle when I take treats from your hand. If I had a job to

do, my energy would be easily redirected. I am sweet and get along great with other dogs and am curious with cats. I am neutered and heartworm negative. I thought I had found my forever home but due to someone’s aller-

gies, I was returned. If you would like to know more about me or would like to inquire about the adoption

process, please call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557. No salary required, will work FREE for room and board.

I am sponsored in appreciation of everyone who has

▲►We three kittens - Stark, Zoey and Eric - were found all by our-

selves on a neighborhood street. I’m Zoey and I’m the only girl. You should come meet us! We have

distinct personalities - Stark is independent, Eric

is playful, and me, I’m curious! We are just 16-

weeks-old and would love to find ourselves snuggling

with new families.

◄Hello there!

Our story begins

when we were

thrown in a cardboard box on a

hot day and left outside

for someone to find us. We were so very tiny and were discovered in the nick of time. Our foster mom

bottlefed us and kept us safe. Now, at 16-weeks-old, we are

healthy, happy and ready to start new lives with PawPrints readers! Our names are Janet, Chrissy and Jack. You might not think “Three’s Company” and that’s

okay, because we can be adopted separately. Just promise to come

meet us - you’ll fall in love!

►I’m a bottle-fed baby named

Grouchella! My foster mom held me close in her arms each time

she fed me. That’s why I’m

so loving toward humans and enjoy being

cuddled. I’m an 8-week-old girl with a darling personality. I may act shy at first, but I warm up quickly and will give you lots of love!

◄Hey there! Susie Sunshine is

here to brighten your days. I was born about five months ago. You see, a very nice lady

took in my mama, who was a pregnant stray. When my mama gave

birth, Purrfect Pet Adop-tions let us all join their group. Now everyone has been adopted but me! I’m a vocal and

affectionate kitten who loves to play. I would

be happiest as the only cat and will keep you smiling!

►A very kind lady found me in her neighborhood. Someone had

abandoned me in the street! My name is Hershel and I’m a

12-week-old kitten with ebony-colored fur. I’m a very sweet boy who

would be perfect in any household. You see, I

get along well with other cats but I also am fine on my own. I like to be held, but I don’t mind being at home

while you go to work. I’m loving, but not clingy. I’d be such a wonderful addition!

Hey there, every-one! My name is Casey and I'm a 2 to 3-year-old fe-

my woofever home! I'm spayed, current on my vaccinations, leash-trained and on heartworm pre-

to the shelter, but I especially love playing with the other homeless dogs. Do you have a dog who could use a

buddy? Bring him or her out here and let’s have a play-date! You never know, you just might want to bring me

home. Although they’re good to me here, I'm hoping to find someone who will give me all of the attention and loving I crave. If that could be you, let’s meet! For directions or

a stray in some-one’s yard. As you can see, I’m a small-

eyes ever! I’ve heard some

people say that they think I’m a Saluki mix. I’m doing great at the shelter

and am happy and playful. I get along well with everyone - adults, children, dogs and even cats. I’ve also already

been spayed, vaccinated and placed on heartworm pre-vention. If you’re looking for a real sweetheart to spend the rest of your life with, I hope you’ll consider me. Just

PENDER ENDANGERED ANIMAL RESCUE

Hello, my name is Alvina! I’m an American Staffordshire, about 1 to 2-years-old, and my coloring is a lovely dark-brown and white. I was found as a stray. Today, I have a limp in my back leg but

that doesn’t slow me down at all! I am a very playful and active

young lady. I would love a yard to run in or an adult who would take me jogging. I love all

people and attention, and I give lots of slobbery kisses. Unfortunately, I am heartworm positive and PEAR is ask-ing for donations to help me get treatment. Donations can be sent to PEAR, P.O. Box 582, Rocky Point, NC 28457. No amount is too small! I also would love for a wonderful family to apply for me as an addition. For more info, email PEAR at [email protected] or call 910-675-0867.

PET FRIENDS OF DUPLIN COUNTY

My name is Beatrice and I'm a friendly, medium-sized Shepherd and Retriever mix. I get along with other

dogs plus I'm spayed and vaccinated. I'm about 5-years-old, but I have lots of energy and love to play and go for walks. I was diagnosed with heart-

worms and have undergone my treat-ment and am doing great. As you can see, my short summer haircut is start-

ing to grow back and soon I'll have my long golden hair back and be gor-

geous again. I would be so happy to have a family to call my own. If you can help with that, call 910-271-3101.

FUREVER FRIENDS

Hi, my name is Lamb Chop and I’m a Jack Russell and Miniature

Schnauzer mix. I am a friendly boy who wants to be your Lap Dog. I’m

1-year-old, 18 pounds, neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative, leash-trained and crate-trained. I know how to sit on com-mand and I’m even good with other dogs. I’m currently being treated for Demodex and should be done with that in a few weeks. To make

me part of your family, please call Furever Friends at 910-383-2100 (Monday through Friday between 8am-6pm).

Believe it or not, I was let out of the car at GoGas to fend for myself. GoGas is where my old life ended

and my new life as GIGI began. My foster mom has taught me how to behave in the house, to like cats and to make friends with other dogs. I love every-

one including children, but so far I have not met my own special someone. I am already spayed, vaccinated and

heartworm negative. They say I have the noble looks and characteristics of a ridgeless Rhodesian Ridgeback. (There really is such a thing!) Please call Edna at 910-866-4289 to

learn all about me! No one will ever love you like a dog who was once abandoned. See more abandoned pets on

our site at www.AShelterFriend.org.

A SHELTER FRIEND OF SE NORTH CAROLINA

COLUMBUS HUMANE SOCIETY

My name is Lilly. I'm 16-months-old and a

Boxer mix of about 45 pounds. My owners are

moving and can't take me with them so I need a home, maybe one that

has a fenced yard. I'm in a home with small chil-

dren and even a cat and I don't have to be crate-

trained. I'm very smart and know how to do some tricks and I love to play and take walks. Would you open your heart and your home to me and give me a forever home? I'm very, very sad that my family can't take me with them. If you can promise to never give me up, please email Pat at [email protected] or call 910-640-1505 and

she will tell you all about me. I'm up to date on shots, de-wormed, heartworm free, spayed and waiting to love you.

PHOENIX LANDING FOUNDATION

Please say “Hello” to me! My name is Dallas and I can say "Hello” back to you! I am a

Double Yellow Headed Ama-zon parrot. I am a little shy but I will gladly step up onto your hand or arm to go around the house with you. I love getting

spray baths which keep my feathers looking beautiful and shiny. I am used to spend-ing a good deal of time outside of my cage on a play gym or parrot tree. One of my favorite activities is to chew up

wood toys and I need a steady supply of them. I especially love to eat and am particularly fond of fresh fruits and veg-

gies. I would love to join your family; won't you please consider making a place for me in your home? For more info, visit our website at www.phoenixlanding.org, email

[email protected] or call 866-749-5634.

OPERATION TOPCAT

Aren't I pretty? My name is Juliet and I’ve been

spayed and vaccinated. I am about 10-months-old and ready for my forever home now that my baby has found hers. I wan-

dered up to a nice lady's home and she took me in and cared for me and my little one. I was a bit shy at first but she gained my trust and now I am much more relaxed. I love to

be petted and like to sit in your lap. If you would like to have a friendly sweet girl, I am the one for you. To find out more about me and how we can meet, please email [email protected] or call 910-200-0612. I so hope you will

consider loving me. To meet some of the other kitties here, please visit www.petfinder.com/shelters/NC250.html.

Hey there, I’m Jethro! I’m a German Shorthaired Pointer and I’m also one

of the five Beverly Hillbillies in the Pawsitive Partners Prison Program. I

was not able to enter the program before because I had heartworms, but

now I have been treated and am all better! Can’t you tell how happy I am

by the big grin on my face? I have been in school for several weeks, but when I graduate this month I can be

all yours! I’m about 3-years-old so I have none of that wild puppy stuff you would have to deal with. Add the training I get here and I’ll be the best pet ever! To adopt me, email

[email protected] or call 910-262-3055. To see the rest of the Clampett Clan, visit www.montyshome.org.

PAWSITIVE PARTNERS PRISON PROGRAM

CAPE FEAR RESCUE RANGERS

My name is Precious and I am a Snow Shoe Siamese girl. I have already been spayed and I have been

declawed so I need to be an inside-only kitty. I would

love to have my own home. I tolerate other cats and get along fine with noisy dogs. I

can be aloof. I like to be rubbed although I am not really a snuggler. I am ap-proximately 5-years-old and a big girl, not a twiggy

model! If you would like to meet me or inquire about the adoption process, please call 910-259-3502.

CAROLINA ANIMAL PROCTECTION SOCIETY

Hi, my name is Penelope and I’m looking for a forever home. I am 7½-years-old

but still young at heart. I am looking for a new home because my last owners

decided to move without me. I don't understand how they could do that to me! I am

very friendly and love to be cuddled. I have long white

hair and enjoy being brushed. I have one blue eye and one green eye and I’m hearing impaired. I hope you can find it in your heart to give me a chance. You won't be disappointed! For adoption info, please contact Debbie

Baldwin at 910-330-1376 or [email protected].

PENDER ANIMAL RESCUE

Hi there! I’m a Siamese mix kitten who is 1-year-old. My

name is Peanut. I am a female and a torte point. I am very sweet but a little reserved when I first meet someone new. I am up to

date on vaccinations, I tested negative for Feline

Leukemia/FIV and I’ve been spayed. My new family must keep me indoors only. I am playful and entertaining to

watch and I’m very neat and have good bathroom habits. To adopt me, please contact

my Pender Animal Rescue foster mom, Tonia, at [email protected] or call her at 910-285-7663.

CAPE FEAR HOUSE RABBIT SOCIETY

My name is Pearl. I have some hearing loss and I do not see very well, which makes it diffi-

cult for me to adapt to new sur-roundings and I startle easily. I am loving life in my foster home - hanging out under the dining

room table for my naps and dancing around the room in the evening. I do love human atten-

tion once I get to know you. Head and ear rubs are the best! In my foster home, I am next to some other bunnies and what I would love most is my very own bunny friend.

Because I don’t see or hear very well, a friend would make me feel so much more safe and secure. To adopt me, call

910-471-7854, email [email protected] or visit www.capefearrabbits.org to view more adoptable rabbits.

I’m CoCo MoonPie and I’m an 8-year-old female Boxer mix. Six years ago, I was found wandering on Highway 17 by a kind lady who scooped me up and

rescued me. I’ve been living at Paw’s Place ever since! Please,

won’t someone take a chance on me and

bring me home? I’m a truly wonderful girl. I enjoy chew toys and being around other

dogs and people. I’m so very sweet - I love giving lots of delicious doggie kisses. If you have a 6-foot fenced in yard and a cat-free home, I

hereby promise to be your loyal, loving, lifetime buddy. To find out more, or if you need driving directions, please call

Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297. Let’s get to know one another, OK?

I am sponsored in memory of Rachel, a kitty who gave

joy to her owner for sixteen years.

Can you hear me purring? My name is Rosie and I’m an extremely affectionate kitten who is looking for a

good home. I was brought to Pender County Humane Society by a nice lady who had been feeding me when I was a stray hanging out by a storage unit. I get

along great with the other kitties at the shelter and I love getting attention from humans! I'm spayed, cur-rent on vaccinations, litter-

box-trained and under 1-year-old. I’d be so grateful to have a furever home!

Come to the shelter and get to know me. It’s a cage-less environment, so you can play with me and watch me inter-

act with the other kitties and all the toys that are laying around. If you’d like to get things started, please call

Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-7022 and tell them you’re on your way!

I am sponsored in appreciation of Gloria Johnson and

all she has done for the area’s homeless animals.

NC ROTTWEILER RESCUE

Hi, I'm Buck and I'm approximately 3-years-old. According to my foster par-ents, I am a wonderful boy! I have lots of energy but I love snuggling with my hu-

mans, too. I am crate-trained and walk wonder-

fully on a leash. I am great with other dogs but not with

cats. I love playing fetch and tug-o-war. I also like to feel loved, watch Animal Planet and lay by your feet. I would

be great for an active family. If it sounds like I am the dog for you, please get in touch with NC Rottweiler Rescue at 910 471-4424. You may also visit www.ncrottierescue.net

for more info or to see other Rotties looking for love. Thanks and I hope to hear from you.

Hi, I'm Molly. I am an ador-able 3-year-old Dalmatian mix. I was rescued after I

was turned in to a shelter in 2007. They said I wouldn't listen but what they didn't know was - I am deaf. I

found a wonderful home but unfortunately they are no

longer able to keep me, so I am looking for a home

again. I am very smart and don't even need my ears! I get along just fine. I would probably do best in a home as a single dog. I am spayed, up to date on shots, on heart-

worm prevention, and microchipped. If you are interested in giving a loving girl like me a home, please check out the Dal Pals website at www.dalpals.org or call 910-575-3141.

CAROLINA DAL PALS I’m Lulu, a precious little girl who has already had a bad beginning at life! I’m a 1½-year-old, 19 pound, mini-

Schnauzer with a beautiful natural tail and ears. The

children in my previous home abused me so my next family cannot have children in the house and must understand that I was traumatized as a puppy. I’m house and crate-trained and walk well on a

leash. I don’t like to be picked up until I fully know you, but I will sit with you all day and watch TV! Another dog in the

home would be a plus to help me feel confident. I’m spayed, up to date on shots, and microchipped. For more info, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. You

can fill out an application online and view other adoptable rescues. If you need an application mailed or faxed to

you, call 910-264-8300.

SCHNAUZER RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS

My name is Sunshine. Some dogs wag their tails, but I like

to wag my whole body! I am a spayed, female Saint Bernard

who’s around 3-years-old. The vet says I must have chewed on rocks when I did not have

enough food because my teeth are worn down. I am healthy, spayed, vaccinated, on heart-

worm preventive and ready for a family to love me. I like to play with other dogs but love to have my face rubbed

and to be petted. I would not mind sharing my home with dogs, cats or kids, but mostly I need people to love me and

spend time with me! Please call 910-547-4823, send an email to [email protected] or visit

www.capefearsaintbernardrescue.com for adoption info.

CAPE FEAR SAINT BERNARD RESCUE

Hi there, I’m Oreo! Got milk? I’m a 2 to 3-year-old Golden Retriever mix who is house-trained, loves to play with other dogs, and I’m even great with cats! I also love to go for walks and rides in the car. I’m up to date on my shots, have been neutered and am just waiting for that perfect family to come along. To learn more about me, call 910-791-5001 or visit the website at www.cfgoldenrescue.com.

CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE

Hello everyone. Allow me to introduce myself! My name is Holly and I am a big beautiful girl with gorgeous markings. I am a great companion and will roll at your feet for belly rub after belly rub. I love to go on leisurely walks and take great naps. Now, I'm

sniffing out my forever home. I would like a home with hu-

man two-leggers, little or big, but I prefer to be the only houndie in your home! I'm hoping my hound nose leads me to you! To make me a member of your family please call 919-708-4247 or visit our website at www.cbhr.com.
