Narrative.

We have decided to produce a crime thriller opening sequence.Firstly it will start with an establishing shot of the great park, it will be around the time of when its getting dark to create a mysterious feel. Our main story board includes a young girl walking her dog, and she keeps hearing weird noises along the way almost as if someone if following her. When she bends down to give the dog a treat a kidnapper suddenly puts a black bag over her head and she is screaming helplessly but no one is around to hear her. This scene will end with a fade to black. The next scene will then cut to where the criminal has tied the young character to a bed, we will have dull lighting and a smoke machine to add to the mise en scene and achieve enigma in our sequence. The ending will finish by a point of view shot from the female character looking at the door and the audience gets to see the criminals face.

As previously said before, our sub genre is crime thriller. We have decided to do this because we feel with the facilities we have, this genre will be perfect to be created with the best of our abilities and the highest of standards. When creating ideas for our storyline we made sure that people could differentiate that our sequence is a crime thriller and not a horror by excluding any blood or gore. We also incorporated our narrative around a crime, included a protagonist and related our title to our specific sequence. The meaning of ‘Hostage’ is a person seized or held captive which is exactly what is going to happen to the female character.

Our main character is a teenage female, she is the protagonist as the audience can recognise that she is the one in danger. She will carry on being the protagonist through the whole opening sequence.

Our male character is the antagonist as he is a criminal and will be kidnapping the female. Not many key features will be revealed about him including his full face as this will create questions to the audience about who is he and why is he doing this to the specific female character.

There will also be a dog involved with the first scene to create meaning to the story line.

Together as a group we have decided to use the location of the great park to film externally. We can use the natural ambient sound of swaying trees, and the crunching of leaves to create extra tension of the surroundings combined with the realistic story of walking a dog.

We initially plan to film in the late afternoon so we have a sunset getting dark, at this time not many people will be there so no interruptions or mise en scene errors can be made.

We have all decided that the appropriate rating for our sequence will be a 15. This is because we are following the BBFC rating, and within the 15 boundary we are allowed nudity, drugs, violence and frequent bad language. Some of these elements will be included in our sequence.

When creating our opening thriller sequence we have decided to share the roles around quite a lot, this gives us the experience to find out what we are better at doing and from there we will allocate specific roles. Although we do have a brief indication , Beth will be doing the majority of the camera work, Chloe greener will be the main actor, Morgan will be doing the mise en scene elements such as props, costume and make up. Lastly Chloe Deavall will be helping with the flow of the overall production and helping everyone in there own areas giving advice on what to improve.
