Dear Parents/Caregivers, Welcome to the Week 8 Campus Newsletter. Throughout the term, across the Campus, we have continued to work together to ensure we are providing quality teaching and learning in an environment that fosters inclusion and children striving to be the best they can be. We value the uniqueness of each child and know that children develop at their own rate and so, our role as educators is to ensure they have every opportunity to flourish as a learner.

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME

National Simultaneous Storytime was held on Wednesday 22nd May and our Campus participated along with over 1 million others across Australia who registered for this annual event. Our junior classes were entertained by the chosen book “Alpacas with Maracas” written by Matt Cosgrove, read by teacher librarian Di Scott, and performed by the students in Catherine McAuley class 4/5LC. Special thanks to those students who bravely acted out the parts of a pair of fun-loving alpacas who attempted to discover their hidden talent for the Talent Show! Some classes went the extra mile and created Alpaca masks and maracas and many have watched videos of alpacas and learned about their unique behaviours. We can’t wait to hear which book is chosen for 2020. Which book do you think would be a great read-aloud to the nation?

CAMPUS BOOK FAIR The Scholastic Book Fair has been another great success. It is wonderful to see you providing your children with new reading materials that will also benefit our library. Clifford the Big Red Dog made guest appearances over the course of the Book Fair, surprising the Catherine McAuley middle school students and the Playford Playgroup. We greatly appreciate the many hours our volunteers have spent helping the Fair run smoothly. Final orders will be delivered to your child’s class when they arrive. Commission from the Book Fair will provide our Campus library with around $2000 worth of new resources for the children. Thank you to all our families for their generous support.

CAMPUS SAFETY: We know we are continually mentioning the importance of car park safety and the importance of everyone following the road rules when operating around the Campus to make sure all Campus users are safe. It is something we need to continue to reinforce because we have people who continue to ignore signage, road rules and Campus expectations in this area. Campus leadership will continue to discuss measures and strategies that will enhance the safety of all Campus users. Both schools have signage on the fences to remind families how to use the Kiss and Drop Zones correctly. This area, when used well, provides easy drop off and pick up at the busy times of the day. Please remember:

The kiss and drop zone is a NO PARKING zone between 8.00am and 9.00am as well as between 2.00pm and 3.00pm. You must wait in your car and only be stopped for a maximum of 2 minutes.

Drivers are NOT to park and leave their cars.

We understand the difficulty which surrounds parking at the Campus and urge all families to use patience and respect whilst remembering that the safety of our children is our priority. Parents speaking rudely to one another and using abusive language is offensive and this behaviour is not condoned by either school.

Families are reminded to: abide by the parking signs, refrain from stopping in the bus zone, refrain from calling children to your car when waiting at the crossing.

All of these practices pose a risk to student safety and potentially could result in a child being seriously injured. Staff on these duties have a ‘duty of care’ to students and appreciate your support with this matter. We trust you will put the safety of all our children first.

STUDENT REPORTS: Staff from both schools are currently busy completing student mid-year reports that will show student achievements so far this year. Reports will be sent home in Week 10 from each school. We encourage you to discuss your child’s report with them. Families will have the opportunity to meet with class teachers in Term 3 if needed to discuss these reports and plan for future growth.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS: As the end of the term draws closer we remind families that the end of the term will conclude on Friday 5th July at 12.30pm for Catherine McAuley and 2.10pm for Playford Primary. School will resume on Monday 22nd July for both schools. We would like to thank all of our Campus families for their support during the term and wish you all a safe holiday. We look forward to many exciting events during Term 3. From the Campus Leadership Team Jason, Vicky, Matt, Meiles, Elizabeth and Lauren Belinda, Eleni and Courtney (Playford Primary) (Catherine McAuley)

Last Wednesday 24 Campus defence students from Year 4-7 attended a Resilience Program run by Port Power at Alberton Oval. We have been lucky enough to attend this program for a number of years, but this year was "the best one ever." 176 students from 10 other South Australian schools were split up into age groups and were involved in many different activities. Mindfulness, Team Building/Resilience, Kicking the Footy and Specky World were all favourites. Our students also got to meet the players and ask all sorts of questions. The day was completed by a yummy lunch compliments of the Port Club and a showbag full of surprises!

"The best part for me was marking the ball in Specky World!" "I really enjoyed meeting the players and getting their signatures."

"I had a great time kicking the footy with Brad Ebert."
